()
About this ebook
"Revelation Revisited: The Seven Churches" is volume 1 of the "Revelation Revisited" series.
It examines, first of all, the Introduction - the Prologue, as it were - of the last Book of the Bible. It establishes the context in which the apostle John received the revelation of the end times.
Then it gives a brief description of each of the seven cities in Asia Minor - modern-day Turkey.
Next, it makes a detailed study of the seven Letters Jesus addresses to those seven cities.
Finally, it gives a summary of the main lessons that can be drawn from those Letters.

PREFACE
I was born again in 1982. The following year, I was called to the ministry thanks to the first praise and worship song I wrote, titled "Praise the Lord".
––––––––
As I read the Bible, I became intrigued by Revelation. I read a number of articles on the end times in magazines. The more I read Revelation, the more I became enthused. I realised that, since it is God’s final revelation to us, it was imperative that we read and study it.
––––––––
Soon I started teaching from it. Of course, I did not understand every detail and every symbol in it. Nor do I now. Nor does anybody. But, with the help of the Holy Spirit, God allows us to understand, at least, the major landmarks He has placed in it.
––––––––
Many local churches began to invite me to teach on it. The congregations were amazed to discover truths they had never heard of. Indeed, most pastors were not willing to teach and preach from it. They would occasionally and randomly quote a verse or two from it, but without giving the context thereof or elaborating on them. Soon my name became associated with Revelation.
––––––––
Now, retired after a fifty-two-year career as high school teacher, and after forty years in ministry, I am bedridden with rheumatoid-arthritis. But the LORD is still using me to preach online and, exceptionally, in local churches. I also have a YouTube channel where I post my messages.
––––––––
A couple of years ago, I started drafting the first pages of a book on Revelation, based on my teaching notes. But I left the draft somewhere in my computer...
––––––––
Until I rediscovered it and resolved to fix it in book form. Revelation being a long and tough book, I am going to devote a volume to each of the most important stages in it.
––––––––
This present volume examines the circumstances in which Revelation was written, the commissioning of the apostle John and, especially, the Seven Letters Jesus addressed to the seven churches in Asia Minor.
––––––––
I give all praise and glory to the LORD and to His Holy Spirit for helping me bring this project to fruition.

INTRODUCTION
The Book of Revelation is the last of the sixty-six Books in the Bible. It closes the canon of Scripture. It is full of symbols and imageries – not always easy to decode and understand.
––––––––
Many people – including Christians – are afraid to dare read this Book because of the horrible things and events it so graphically describes. Indeed, it speaks of beasts, monsters, wars and catastrophes that will manifest themselves during the end-times. That is what is called eschatology – the series of events that precede the end of the world.
––––––––
Yet, Revelation is the most important Book to read in this time and age. We may not understand every detail in it, but we can understand the main events it depicts and their chronology. Besides, the word Revelation
, in Greek – the original language of the New Testament –is "Apokalupsis which means
an unveiling, an apparition".
––––––––
In the Old Testament Book of Daniel, after having given revelation about the end times to Daniel, the Archangel Michael addressed these words to the prophet:
"But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end. Many will run back and forth, and knowledge will be increased" (Daniel 12:4).
––––––––
And when, at the end of his encounter with the Archangel, Daniel said:"I heard, but I didn’t understand. "O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things
He said, "Go your way, Daniel; for the words are shut up and sealed until the time of the end. Many will purify themselves, and make themselves white, and be refined; but the wicked will do wickedly; and none of the wicked will understand; but those who are wise will understand" (Daniel 12:8-10).
––––––––
Even Daniel, then, could not understand. But now, that time has come. Knowledge has increased, as the Archangel foretold. Lay education has increased universally, Bible colleges and seminaries have been established in most of our major cities and the Internet has vulgarised access to knowledge.
––––––––
What, then, does that tell us? The time of the end is already here. It’s time for the words to be unveiled – revealed! The Book of Revelation– which rightly bears its name - comes at the opportune time. It provides the answers to Daniel’s interrogations. To reveal
is the opposite of to seal
. Besides, Revelation pronounces a blessing upon he who reads, upon he who hears, and upon he who keeps the words it reveals "for the time is at hand" (1:3).
––––––––
The Book of Revelation was written around the year 95-96 AD during the reign of the Roman emperor Domitian.
––––––––
Its author was the Apostle John – called the Revelator. But the true Revelator was, in fact, the Lord Jesus Christ, as we are going to see.
––––––––
In those early days of Christianity, Christians were ruthlessly persecuted, especially by the various Roman emperors. The most notorious of them were Nero, Domitian and, especially, Caligula. Because he was preaching the Gospel, John was arrested and sent in exile on the Island of Patmos in modern-day Turkey. Patmos was a very rocky and barren island, about ten miles long and five miles wide. We can, thus, understand to what severe treatment John must have been subjected. It would not be an exaggeration to say that he must have been beaten, flogged, chained and fettered and subjected to hard labour!
––––––––
The devil, the Mastermind behind John’s ordeal, must have planned to put an end to his ministry and do away with him altogether! But John’s exile was going to turn to his advantage and to our own! Thanks to his banishment, the Apostle was going to be given a free spiritual journey into the future that would, by far, surpass in excellence all future space travel! An Angel, commissioned by Jesus, would take John on a trip beyond time and space to show him the things that were – and that are - to come in the future.
––––––––
We, human beings, have always been curious to probe into the
