    Foreword

When I was nine years old, I dreamed of becoming an NBA superstar. I had an instinct that one day I would be doing something with the game of basketball and I just couldn’t shake it, despite the upsets. Growing up in a Christian household, I was taught to have faith in God, pray, and work hard for the dreams God put in my heart. My community of family and friends were influential in the process of finding out what that dream was through prayer and encouragement. This led to one of the most important encounters I’ve had—finding who I truly was through Jesus Christ. However, it was also the most heart-wrenching decision because it stripped me of what I had known. I came face to face with the reality that I wasn’t going to become an NBA superstar, but I was going to become something better than that at surface level. Instead of chasing culture’s propaganda from one trend to the next, I received clarity about the priorities that were dictating my life. During this season of finding out who I was, the only thing I could hold onto was the hope of John 10:10 NKJV, that Jesus came to give life and give it more abundantly. He builds lives and does not come to bring them to ruin, including your career. If you resonate with the dream of becoming an NBA or WNBA star, yet it didn’t come through for you—this is the book for you. Once I surrendered to the reality that I had to leave what I wanted in exchange for what God had for me, I began the journey to finding my true identity. Leaving your sport can be tough, because your world is in it. Who you are is qualified through your ability and it becomes everything. The good news is that if I and other athletes can do it, so can you. Throughout this book, I will be sharing my testimony
