INTRODUCTION

Hear ye! Hear ye!  Court is in session!

The book you are about to read will help you apply legal principles and divinely inspired guidance to rule over areas of your life. It is not meant to be a scholarly read, or to indoctrinate—my goal is to share my life experiences to assist you in successfully maneuvering through hardships we all have or will face. I am an administrative law judge, former municipal judge, a licensed attorney, an adjunct law professor, and a single mom of two wonderful college kiddos. To say I am busy would be a major understatement, but the opportunity to share life lessons that can possibly help others is a privilege for which I am grateful. I love life and laughter despite all of the tests and trials. As you will see, my faith in God is strong and unshakeable and has led me on a journey involving a legal career wherein I  developed life skills that have helped me heal, grow, and evolve into a victor and not a victim. If you want to be the supreme arbiter in your relationships, life, and future, read on.

CHAPTER ONE

All Rise

Because of self-doubt and struggles, we too often live beneath our potential and purpose while expecting our dreams to become reality. The chaos of comparison consumes. We will remain dazed and defeated unless and until we take life’s gavel and demand order in the court! By way of introduction, allow me to say that you and I have something in common…we all endure trials –some of which we overcome almost effortlessly and some of which bring us to our knees. This book will tell you how to rise from your knees in those desolate times and live a life totally unbossed, unbothered, and on purpose! 

On a more personal note, let me share more about my chosen profession with you so that you can fully understand the viewpoint from which I write. In 2001, I became a parttime judge and the name Judge Judy started to stick— actually, even before then, people I knew would call me that because folks who knew I was an attorney just automatically associated me with that moniker. I’m a fan of the famous television judge named Judy and believe that the fact that we share the same name and occupation is more than a coincidence. When I was sworn in over twenty years ago, I told a room full of family, friends, and colleagues at my reception, hosted by the firm where I worked, that my mom must have had uncanny foresight to name me Judy decades earlier given my career trajectory. In retrospect, what I have found is that the intersection of law and relationships yields a powerful key to overcoming life’s difficulties. This book will discuss that intersection, and hopefully, empower you to recognize the innate power in you enabling you to experience victory after victory. The mindset necessary to turn trials into triumphs is the same headspace one occupies as a judge
