    Introduction

My senior year in high school, I had my life figured out. I was going to be an FBI Profiler like Jodie Foster in Silence of the Lambs. In college, I would study Criminology and Psychology and eventually make my way to Quantico. One of my favorite teachers, Mr. Blackwell, sat me down and had a heart-to-heart with me about my future plans. He helped me realize that getting into the FBI may be harder than I thought and maybe I should study something else. His suggestion was Finance. Now Mr. Blackwell wasn't just a teacher; he was also my middle school gym teacher, the Assistant Principal at my high school, and my driver's education teacher. Thus is the life of a small-town girl! He had been in my life for seven years and I truly respected him and his input.

    So what did I do?

I went to the University of Evansville and majored in Finance. And I hated it!

The major was not a success but going into business was definitely my future. I just needed to find the right spot. Luckily, I listened to everyone's advice and got an internship at a local hospital in Human Resources (HR). I figured I could look at job descriptions and be inspired. What actually inspired me was HR. I love the interaction with people and helping them in all areas of Human Resources from benefits to finding a job. I immediately changed my major to Management.

More than twenty years later, I am still loving everything about HR.

My focus has been in Talent Acquisition and a few years ago, I learned about design thinking and fell in love with it. Design thinking is the methodology to solve hiring challenges. Design thinking focuses on finding solutions that work for both people and the business. I wanted everyone in the Talent Acquisition space to learn about design thinking and to implement the design thinking process so I wrote a book about it. My first book, Hire By Design, provided different ways you can use design thinking in talent acquisition.

Now, I want to show how you can use design thinking in Human Resources. This is a guide book for HR professionals who are tired of the same old solutions and want to get creative with solving HR Challenges. I hope this inspires you to get out of your box and create amazing solutions for your company.
