About this ebook

The fifth book in the hilarious Magnificent Mabel series, highly illustrated throughout and with three short stories - perfect for newly-confident readers.

Meet Mabel - she's MAGNIFICENT.

Sometimes life isn't fair for Mabel Chase. Like for instance she isn't allowed to go Trick or Treating on HALLOWEEN because she has to visit a relative instead. And even though there's a monster living under her bed, her parents STILL won't let her have a brand-new high-up bunk bed which wouldn't have ANY hiding spots for monsters. And NO-ONE at school believes her when she spots aliens in the playground. But none of that matters in the end ... because Mabel is still MAGNIFICENT.

But none of that matters in the end ... because Mabel is still MAGNIFICENT.

Ruth Quayle

Ruth grew up surrounded by sisters (she's the middle of three). She spent a lot of her childhood writing to the tooth fairy, pretending she had a pet rabbit of her own and stomping up to her room to read books - vital training for a children's author! She writes picture books and young fiction and many of her books have been nominated for awards. She lives in a small village near Oxford with her husband and three children.

Magnificent Mabel and the Very Important Witch - Ruth Quayle

I’ll tell you what is nearly as good as Christmas. Halloween, that’s what.

At Halloween you get to carve a pumpkin and you can buy face paint that looks like blood.

At Halloween, you don’t even have to say please when you want sweets. You just knock on people’s doors and say Trick or Treat in a loud voice because on Halloween it’s good to be loud. (Except you still have to say thank you when people give you sweets, otherwise you might have to go home early.)

All year long, I count down the days to Halloween.

Like for instance I love planning what I am going to wear.

I love getting my orange Trick or Treat pot ready.

I love practising my face paint when Mum isn’t keeping an eye on her make-up bag.

Last week on Monday I was so happy because it was finally Halloween.

At school everyone in my class was talking about it and SOME people were quite boasty.

Sophie Simpson told me that her dad had bought her a witch outfit in a shop and it cost A LOT of money because it came with a real broomstick that could FLY.

Edward Silitoe said he had the best skeleton costume ever because his mum had painted skeleton bones on a black leotard and leggings and all the bones were in the right place because his mum is a doctor.
