About this ebook
When Pollyweena Grubble's parents go away for a week, Great Aunt Mabel comes to babysit. Polly can't wait for Auntie to meet her best friend, Gertie. But when Auntie finds out that Polly and Gertie have chewed filthy bubble-gum they collected from the pavement, she bans them from playing together.
Polly's miserable enough without having to eat Auntie's disgusting cooking. And if she throws it in the bin, she'll be in even more bother. Though there is one solution. Polly waits until Auntie's not looking, then stuffs the yucky food in-between the clean sheets in the lined cupboard. But nothing gets by that mean old crab-apple. Auntie discovers the filthy mess and sends Polly to bed with no supper.
The next morning, Polly sneaks off for a joyride on Gertie's new bicycle. As she sits in the basket attached to the handlebars, Gertie whizzes down the hill. Trouble is, their headmistress is standing on the footpath and Gertie can't stop. Now the rascals are in more trouble and someone's called the police

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was a wonderful adventure story. Polly and Gertie are best friends. When Polly’s parents leave her Aunt in charge of her for a week, things get really hairy. Polly can’t seem to do anything right. Everything she attempts to do ends in catastrophe. It all starts with a gumball that she and her best friend make. This is the first thing that gets her on her aunt’s bad side. When she tries to hide her dinner of Liver and Spaghetti, can you say yuck, she gets in more trouble. Trying to fix her mistakes only makes things worse. Her aunt has no patience for kids and this adds to the humor. I rooted for Polly and Gertie all the way through the book. The writing style of this book reminded me of Roald Dahl. I think kids who liked “George’s Marvelous Medicine” by Roald Dahl will love this book. It has the cranky relative that you love to hate. The antics in the book are hilarious and of course you find the parents have a tendency to overlook the mischief that Polly and Gertie get into. I highly recommend this book to my students and to parents everywhere.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Oh my word! Ms. Puddle, you are a genius! Finally, a "childs" tale which is appropriate for boys and girls of all ages. I'd highly recommend for everyone to read this book, from Senior Citizens to the youngest readers. Star-Crossed Rascals is the funniest tale I've read in years! I will never look at "play-dough", "gobstoppers" or mops the same. *****10 stars!***** Polly is such an endearing little girl, who's best intentions always seem to land her in a mess. She has come to life in the pages of this book, which will have you laughing and crying at the same time. Gertie, who is Polly's best friend, is the child your mother always warned you about, except she's not cruel or mean, simply adventurous. She's the best friend we all want to have! I found myself cheering on Polly (and Gertie), in their antics against Great Auntie Mabel who was an utter crank. I'm keeping this one for my grandchildren, as it will be re-read many times again. Thank you for the fun Ms. Puddle and for our new favorite book! Please, please write many sequels!
