About this ebook

James

I'd survived the flames that snatched away my firefighting career. However, the physical scars that blaze left behind, also snatched away my belief in ever finding love.

So, the last person I expected to walk into my life was Dylan. From the moment this gorgeous man walked into my garage, I figured him for yet another hot straight guy I could never have.

But when he invited me over to the bar where he works, I started to sense that maybe Dylan wasn't as straight as he appears…

Dylan

When I first met James he was quiet but generous, and he offered to do everything he could to get my car back on the road.

So of course, I had to returned the favor in kind, and offered to buy him a drink. And it has nothing to do with how handsome and muscular James is. Or how his soft cobalt blue eyes seem to utterly mesmerize me.

Look, there's nothing wrong in simply admiring another mans physique.

And besides, I'm straight. Although, I must admit, the longer James keeps staring at me the way he does, the less certain of that I feel…

Hard Hart is part of the 'First Time For Everything' series.

A Quick Additional Word From The Author:

I know many of you are big fans of MM romance books, so I've written a range of stories from longer gay romance books to quick and easy, gay romance short stories for when you just need a fast fix.

Personally, I have a soft spot for mm romance first time tales. There's something so special about exploring that journey of coming out and falling in love for the first time.

But I also love writing a good mm romance alpha story, with a headstrong hero who finds his perfect match. And mm romance bi awakening plots really tug at my heartstrings too. Especially as we follow along the journey of two characters exploring new sides of their sexuality.

So, for those of you who like your gay romance on the shorter side, check out my First Time For Everything series. Every book in that series is a steamy m/m romance instalove quick read that you can dive right into. They're ideal for when you've only got a bit of time but need your happily ever after fix. Some are contemporary, while others are a fun mm romance adventure tale — but there's something there for every mood.

However, if you're looking for a heart-warming, slow-burning romance story, then my Love On Ryder Ranch series is just what you need! This series of gay cowboy LGBT romance books provides something for all readers, whether you're in the mood for an exciting adventure or a passionate love affair.

Well, I hope you can find something in my library of romance books to capture your interest—I'm always happy to feed your next reading binge!

    Chapter 1

    JAMES

The car revved so loud , I gritted my teeth as the sound of the engine began to reach ear-splitting levels.

I get it!, I yelled, barely able to hear my own voice over the volume of the engine. Slapping the hood of the car, the overheated metal nearly scalded my palm, as I tried to capture Tony’s attention.

Tony, meanwhile, was hunched over the wheel of the car, revving the engine for all it was worth.

Still, the firm thud’s from my hand slapping the hood did the trick as Tony lifted his gaze up from the wheel.

What? Tony yelled back, although I could barely make out the word.

I mimed a ‘cutting’ action across my neck with one hand, and pointed at the car bonnet with the other. Switch it off!

Tony, the manager of the auto repair shop, where I’d been working for the past year, finally got the hint, and cut the engine.

The silence that followed was blissful, although it was soon broken by Tony’s harried voice. So, what do you think it is? Why is it sounding like that? Tony asked as he collapsed back into the car seat.

I absentmindedly rubbed the back of my neck. The rough burn scars that marred the skin on my neck, always seemed to itch whenever I got even a little frustrated.

Too late I remembered the greasy car oil smeared on my palms, and dropped my hand from my neck. I sighed. Look, I reached around to snatch a dirty rag from my back pocket. Leave the car here with me. I’ll take a further look at it, I said as I wiped the grease off my palm and neck, but it’s going to take a bit of time. I turned to wave a hand around the small auto shop we were in, indicating the three other cars that I still had to work on. With other customers ahead in the queue, it’ll be a while before I can get to it.

Tony nodded quickly, a little too quickly for me to think he’d actually heard a word I’d said. And the next sentence out of his mouth proved me right.

Yeah, yeah, so here’s the thing. I told my wife I would fix this car for her, Tony looked shamefaced as he continued with a grimace, and that was around a couple weeks ago.

I gave him a slow exasperated shake of my head. The car’s been here the whole time, I said as I wafted away exhaust fumes that thickened the air around us. Why didn’t you say anything?

Tony was your all-round family man, and he talked about his wife all the time. He spoke of her as though she’d plucked the stars from the sky. Yet, this wasn’t the first time he’d forgotten to tell me about a car he’d needed fixed on a rush order.

I know, I know, my boss nodded his head in agreement. So do you think you can fix it?

I scratched the side of my chin, giving it a little thought. From the sound of that engine, I figure the throttle is stuck maybe? Possibly some trouble with the mass airflow sensor... I let my voice fade away into silence for a moment.

Noticing the blank look on Tony’s face, I knew he had no clue what I was talking about. Tony’s a good manager, but a mechanic, he was not.

He’d taken over the shop a few weeks before he’d hired me. And he’d told me that he thought
