Amanda stood a few yards away from the entrance to the Obsidian Lounge and took a moment to compose herself. It was still early, and the underground parking lot hadn’t yet filled up.

She smiled as a group of well-dressed women held their phones out to be scanned. Ivy, dark hair tucked into her white beret, a walkie on her hip, beeped them in and wished them a good evening. Once they were all inside, Amanda adjusted her purse and approached the station.

Ivy was fashionably dressed in a crisp white shirt and black skirt. She looked up from her clipboard and smiled in recognition. Amanda! What is it tonight, business or pleasure? Are you here for a meeting with Miss Starr?

Business, I guess. Apparently, I’m training tonight.

Ivy’s eyes lit up. Shut up! You’re working here now? What did we do to get so lucky?

Amanda shrugged. Erica wants me to get some experience working here. For the book.

For the book, sure. Ivy gave her a subtle wink. I’ll bet you tried real hard to get out of it.

I’m kind of nervous, actually. I’ve never really danced before.

Never? Ivy twirled a lock of black hair around on her finger and flipped it back. Not even once?
