Scribbles

The Wall

The wall was built in ’92.

It started small, and then it grew.

And snow and rain and hail endured,

and bore it all

as walls must do.

Lying on My Back in October

The leaves look like potato chips,

they sound like fresh potato chips

against the ceiling, bright and crisp,

the lightest, bluest sky.

Not a cloud goes by

and I

sigh.

The grass smells green

and clean between

my toes.

I watch; it grows.

I grow, too

slow, up to

the blue.

Not a clue

how I’ll get down

back to the ground

where I have found

a place to lay

and waste away

a quiet day.

The tree branch sways

and feather-soft

from where,
