    All Hands on Deck

To the glory of God, this book is written with the expressed purpose of raising funds to finance the building of an ultramodern retreat center in Ghana to be readily available for drug addicts who have been rejected and deserted by their families. With Christ Jesus and you as partners, this divine enterprise of God will be achievable. May the good Lord shower upon your life with testimonies, and may the Holy Spirit be the seal on your testimonies as your certificate for being a partner in God's work.

    Your servant in his vineyard,

    Reverend Paul Manu

    Project Coordinator

    Introduction

Drug addiction, based on the statistics, destroys the lives of hundreds of thousands of people each day. With an ever-growing demand for drugs, it seems that the numbers are constantly on the rise. A recent survey revealed that addicts are consuming larger quantities of drugs to maintain themselves on a daily basis. At face value, from an addict's perspective, it is easier to continue using than to face the fact that you need treatment and must go through the withdrawal process. Substance abuse is a means of running away from the realization that you are truly unhappy with your life and where it is going.

It took me years to admit that I had a drug addiction issue. Drug abuse became my new way of life, and I believed that it was going to be the solution to every problem I was confronted with. I did not know that this disease would cause me more pain and sorrow than I could ever believe was possible.

My drug dealing and addiction put my entire family through great mental and physical agony. Everyone was worried about me because my life was quickly deteriorating. As the days passed by, my world was collapsing at a fast pace. The importance of family, the concept of society, and spirituality within me were fading away. Then, on one very special day, I came in contact with our Lord Jesus Christ. This occurred in a very dramatic manner, as it happened in the life of Saul, who became Paul on his way to Damascus.

Since that fateful day, Christ Jesus has proven to me without question that he really came to die for sinners like myself. And as a result, my life will never be the same. This change is exemplified by the very fact that he has made me a changed man, from drug pusher to gospel preacher. His saving grace upon my life has therefore compelled me to help all those who are still battling with this awful ordeal in their lives. There are still many out there who think that life has been unfair to them and, as such, God does not care about them. Therefore, it seems justified in their eyes to use drugs or smoke a little weed or drink, thinking it will help resolve some of their problems. The reasoning behind substance abuse has been the notion that to get high will boost one's confidence or alleviate, however temporarily, the unwanted stress of our daily lives. But, beloved, this kind of perception or assumption is totally false. It is one of the easiest schemes of the devil to lure you into your eternal doom.

We must understand the concept that many people in our society believe that life should be easy. At times we become restless, and as human beings we sometimes bring unwanted hardship into our lives by engaging in self-indulgent, negative activity. As a result of some of these actions, we move away from God's original plan and the possibility of beautiful lives and fulfilled destinies. My whole life had fallen apart as a result of my drug use. My mind became adversely affected to the extent that I became blind to its degenerative effects on my body and spirit. I mistakenly believed that drinking and using drugs made one both more powerful and to be feared in our society.

When I finally realized the negative effects of my drug abuse and the dangerous road I was traveling, I decided to fight my drug addiction, whatever the cost. I began to look for answers and solutions from any source that was available to me. Time was really running out, and the choice was now mine to make. My main purpose was to become a changed man and to be loved by all as my God intended for me.

The Lord who did all this for me is still able to do the same in your life, no matter your situation. It is not too late for him to heal you and put you back on track. All he requires of you is to surrender and rededicate your life to him, and he will take care of you. Drug addiction is not the solution; it rather prevents you from truly living and realizing God's plan. Therefore, give it all up to him and make that beautiful U-turn to Christ Jesus and allow him to use you for his glory.
