    About Author

    Blurbs

The animal kingdom that is the workplace is lethal, cold, and unforgiving.

Each animal has their role – the bigger, more predatory animals were preying upon the weak, smaller animals in a sick game to work their way up the food chain and reach the top. The predators have a plan – to steal the key, get the money, and get away with mass murder.

When Monkey is found dead, everyone is a suspect.

The self-righteous Bitch, the bloody Eagle, and the vicious Wolf.

And no one knows who to blame….

Crocodile thinks he has it figured out, but in a twisted turn of events, the plot thickens and while shedding his crocodile tears he discovers a sick and sad truth. But not all is lost…. Not everything is always as it seems in this animal kingdom.

    Chapter one

    The Beginning

    Monkey

    Days prior

It wasn’t easy being the little guy around this place reminiscent of the animal kingdom.

You were either a kingpin, a key player in the game, or you were a nobody – not even useful enough to take a shit on, and unfortunately both the power players and the nobodies were needed here. For the strong couldn’t be strong without the week. Us smaller, weaker players tended to huddle together. They called it ‘gossip,’ I called it ‘necessary to our survival.’ If we didn’t share the things we knew, then we couldn’t protect ourselves.

    So, we shared.

Anything dodgy we saw happening around this place, we reported to each other.

It was vital to survive, but of course, the talking - the gossip, it had its repercussions too, but it wasn’t anything too big, or too vital. It was small things, like that Crocodile was sneakily stealing money from this place, the Bitch slept with someone for a promotion, and Wolf was just as bad - hungry and animal. He would fuck anyone he could to get an ego boost or higher in the rankings, and the Eagle he had big plans to take Wolf down…. But most of it was hearsay, it didn’t mean anything…. It was talk. Just talk.

At least until I got the email.

It was 9:15 am on a Monday morning, so, simply put, it was ‘too early for this bullshit.’ But the dinnng sound of a notification bellowed and the little box popped up, with only a snippet of what the email entailed. But that snippet was enough. It read ‘a lot of people are going to….’ An ominous title, indeed. I clicked, my eyes glued to the computer screen as I read the email before me, half wishing I hadn’t….

    TO: monkey@privatexemail.com

SUBJECT: A lot of people are going to….

    Monkey,

I’m sorry to contact you like this. I didn’t know how else to do it…. But I have reason to believe someone here is planning to take down the weaker parts of our herd. They are planning an attack on a massive scale - you and yours are in DANGER, but I cannot say more. Not like this.

    Signed,

    The Snake

    _______________________________________________________________________

The weird thing about the email wasn’t the scary or concerning content, it was that there was no one here who called themselves the Snake. The email read Snake@thexfirm.com and I had no idea who that was either….. I knew pretty much everyone who worked here, save some people who were only hired during the holidays….

At first I thought it must have been a prank.

Surely this was someone messing with me….

    Sure it wasn’t real.

But as I scanned the place I worked in, watching the animal-like people in their natural habitats, I feared ‘what if?’ What if the person who wrote this email was using an alias to protect themselves? What
