    Our story didn’t start in some magical, fairy tale beginning. It started with a mission, which while seemingly standard, turned out to be anything but. It was probably doomed from the start.

    First of all, the crew was too light. Recent interest in the far reaches of the universe had diminished the workforce in the interior galaxies greatly, and the crew was down to myself and five others.

    Second of all, Jimmy should have been the one to do the repair, but he had taken ill. I wasn’t going to risk him, despite his protests, and I certainly didn’t think the rest of the crew of The Verity, more accustomed to either research or exploration, was up to the task.
