“We can’t do that. You need help,” Miss yelled as the helicopter drew closer.
“What do you expect me to do?” I yelled.
“Jump!” Madam responded.
“NO WAY!”
“You have to. There isn’t any way out. Trust us; grab onto the ladder.”
“No, not doing it.”
“Come on, now’s your chance.”
“TOO LATE!” hollered the person behind me.
“Hurry!” Madam screeched as I saw Valley leap off the Eiffel Tower into the helicopter.
I was about to go for the ladder when the suspicious person behind me tripped and bumped into me.
“MISS AND MADAM, HELP!”

Chapter 1
I turned and looked behind me before quickly jumping from the ground. Keep running faster. Don’t look back. Why does that person keep following me wearing that black hooded sweatshirt in eighty-degree weather? Maybe the sweatshirt is lined with ice packs or something to stay cool. What am I thinking? I kept running through the streets of Paris. I could smell some amazing delicacies as I passed cafés on Rue Cler. Come on, Valley,
I said, pulling on her leash, there isn’t time for a bacon scone.
We started running again.
I headed for the Eiffel Tower. I planned to get on the elevator and take it to the top. However, I didn’t realize I needed a ticket—and the line was long. I began to look left and right. Ugh, now what do I do?
Stop!
the person screamed at me.
I turned around and noticed the suspicious person hunched over, breathing heavily.
Out of shape, I thought. I’m glad I participated in that exciting Big Foot adventure with Miss and Madam. I’m starting to become a pro at this. Stopping is not in my vocabulary. I ran towards the stairs and began taking two at a time.
Wow, OK, I’m fine. Now isn’t the time to be afraid of heights! I looked out over the city. I wanted to slow down as I got higher, but Valley wouldn’t let me. She kept pulling on her leash—she must have been as scared as I was. I could still hear the person screaming at me to stop. I should have paid attention when Miss and Madam showed off their karate moves. Maybe I should turn around and shout, dance fight!
What am I thinking? I finally reached the top and stood as still as possible. I tried not to look down.
Breathe, Deputy, breathe! I can’t breathe. Valley, what do I do? I need a verse; I need a verse.
Ruff, Ruff, Ruff, Ruff!
Valley, that’s not found in the Bible.
Oh, what am I saying?
Ha, I got you, now!
I could hear the person scream.
Oh no, it’s not a great idea to go up when running from a person who looks suspicious. Why didn’t I take my own advice when I told Miss that exits are down, not up? I thought inside myself. I then stepped closer to the edge of the tower. Valley, what are we going to do?
Of course, Valley didn’t respond. She just stared at me with her big brown eyes and began to whimper.
Deputy!
I heard someone scream above me.
What is that? I thought as I looked up. Not those squawking birds again.
I saw two girls who looked alike on a ladder hanging from a helicopter. Leave me alone!
I yelled.
But we’re here to save you!
Miss replied with a wide grin on her face.
I don’t need saving. I’m fine!
He doesn’t look fine. Do you think he looks fine?
Madam questioned her sister.
No, I don’t think he looks fine,
Miss replied.
You’re obviously not fine!
they both shouted at me.
There is no way out now!
the person yelled behind me.
I can handle this,
I yelled at the twins. Go away!
We’re not going anywhere! You’re in danger!
I’m fine. Leave me alone!
We can’t do that. You need help,
Miss yelled as the helicopter drew closer.
What do you expect me to do?
I yelled.
Jump!
Madam responded.
NO WAY!
You have to. There isn’t any way out. Trust us; grab onto the ladder.
No, not doing it.
Come on, now’s your chance.
TOO LATE!
hollered the person behind me.
Hurry!
Madam screeched as I saw Valley leap off the Eiffel Tower into the helicopter.
I was about to go for the ladder when the suspicious person behind me tripped and bumped into me.
MISS AND MADAM, HELP!
Chapter 2
Aaaah!
I screamed as I sat up in bed. Oh, what a terrible nightmare! Why didn’t I use my watch powers? Dance fight? Karate moves? A sweatshirt lined with ice packs? Hmm, maybe I’ll give it a try, and again, maybe not. I began looking around my room. Valley was sleeping nicely in her dog bed. I looked at my clock, 9:45 am. Yikes, got to go!
I quickly got dressed and put on two show-off-worthy watches. Valley, you better get up; our plane leaves at 11:30 am,
I warned. Hey, don’t you have to brush your fur or something?
Valley just stared at me as I grabbed my watch case and began to fill it up. Let’s see, two blacks, two blues, two whites, two reds, and two black and golds.
OK, Valley, I’m going to have to get serious; you must get up!
I said as I grabbed my suitcase and started heading towards my front door, ready to go. Fine, I’ll just have to go without you!
I warned as I pretended to leave. It was then Valley jumped up and ran towards me. I grabbed her leash and clipped it on her collar. There we go. Now, was that so hard?
It took a good hour before we reached the airport. I was shoved through security and was shocked when Valley didn’t need to be crated. However, I didn’t say a word. I made sure I got my watch case out of my suitcase before I boarded the plane. No way did I want anything to happen to my watches.
I got on the plane, quickly found my window seat, and had Valley lay at my feet. It was going to be a long flight, so I began to settle in. I put on my super cool blue headphones and listened to music as Valley slept at my feet. I fell asleep for a couple of hours and woke up with a great view of the Atlantic Ocean. I decided to stretch my legs with Valley and walked to the front of the airplane.
THUNK! THUNK! THUNK! THUNK!
The noise was coming from the cockpit. Hmm, should I take a look? I wondered, not sure what to do.
THUNK!
OK, better check it out. I knocked on the door, but I didn’t hear a response. I went to open it, but there wasn’t a handle. I put my eye up to the peephole but couldn’t see the pilot. How do I get in there? I thought desperately. It was then I noticed a touchpad. Hmm, there must be a code to get in! But what is it? I had no idea where to start, so I began pushing as many buttons as possible. Surely, something will work. I hope the pilot is OK. Ugh, what is the code? I kept hitting the buttons. I finally gave up and leaned my body against the door. It slowly began to open. Well, that worked. I entered the cockpit and saw the pilot lying on the floor.
Are you OK, sir?
I questioned in a panic as I leaned down beside him. His eyes were closed, and he didn’t answer. Valley, go get help!
I demanded as she jogged away. I glanced back down at the unconscious pilot.
DEPUTY!
I heard someone squeal.
No, no, no, no. Miss, what are you doing here?
I asked, shocked.
Valley found me!
Miss replied with a grin. Wait, I’ll go get Madam!
"No, you don’t have to do that. I told Valley to
