Imaginary/Spirit Friends

Jesus said to his disciples, I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 18:3, NIV). We were told as children that imaginary friends were just that, imaginary, when in fact they were actually spirit friends or spirit guides. Imagination and intuition both come from the subconscious. As children, we weren’t yet conditioned by society that only physical bodies are real, and thus, we were more apt to perceive beings from outside of ordinary reality.

My friends were Donsaniel and Patty. I would ask my parents if they could go on trips with us or join us at the dinner table. I spent hours on the floor or the backyard playing and talking with them. My sister and brother would say, She’s nuts. Thankfully, I didn’t have any concept that being nuts was a bad thing. I can remember playing and talking with Donsaniel and Patty. I don’t remember visually seeing them, yet I recall that I sensed when they were present. They were comforting and loving. My mom asked a well-respected friend if she needed to be concerned about my preoccupation with Donsaniel and Patty and, lucky for me, our friend and neighbor said, No, she just has an active imagination.

My sister still remembers when Donsaniel died. I asked my grandmother if Patty could live under her picnic table since her companion was gone. I now believe that Donsaniel may have reincarnated, dying from the spirit world by being born into the physical world. I have not felt his presence since that event.

I soon became conditioned by society and tuned out my remaining friend, Patty. I no longer thought of her often. I was tuned out from the frequency of the spirit world and tuned in to the heavy energies of the adolescent and adult world. When I was about thirty years old, I was working in our detached garage and stopped to think about Patty. I never totally lost my imagination and began to concentrate on my old friend. I told her that I knew she was still around, and I asked her to give me a sign. Immediately, the overhead light in the garage went on and off, on and off, on and off. I looked up to the house to see my fiancé (now my husband) at the light switch and was sure that Patty had inspired him to take the action. That renewed my relationship with my spirit friend, whom I believe is with me and watches over me to this day.

Later, around age forty, I had a vivid dream and vision experience. I dreamed that I was lying on a couch, and a young woman came and placed two kittens on my lap. I opened my eyes and looked up at her, and she was surprised that I had seen her. It was as if she mentally said, You weren’t supposed to see me. She was a young woman with shoulder-length brown hair, dressed all in brown (pants and a button-up shirt overtop a T-shirt). She ducked out of the room quickly, and I begged her to return. She finally obliged, and I felt an immensely strong spiritual connection to her. She reached out her hand, and we touched fingertips, generating a magnificent energy that I can still recall. I awoke the next morning knowing that I had connected with Patty. I even drew a picture of her based on the dream.

I still talk to Patty and feel her presence. I once tried automatic writing to her. I wrote: Patty, remember the times we had when I was a little girl? I remember the comfort I felt knowing you were my friend and were always there when I needed you. I miss feeling you around, but I am learning to feel your presence. What happened to Donsaniel?

Patty replied, I am still with you, watching you. I can’t interfere too much—so are the laws of the universe. I love you as much as ever. Call on me when you’re in need. Donsaniel crossed over back into life in another part of the world. We will all be together again.

On another occasion, I wrote: Dear Patty, what should I focus on these days? How can I contact you? Should I try to contact ascended masters?

She replied, "The masters will contact you—be open. They know the right time. Ask for God’s protection. Angels watch over you. Visualize yourself surrounded by white light and the Holy Spirit. Jesus loves you and will be your guide. Teach his Word. Pray to him. Contact me as you do, by thinking of and talking to me. I’m there. Reach out and feel my presence. I am your friend. Focus on your soul growth, helping others, forgiving, and loving."

We all have guides and angels. They wish to help us, but there is a universal law that they cannot interfere unless it is a life and death situation, or if we ask. So ask your guides and angels to help you, then listen to that inner
