About this ebook

After joining World Overcomers Outreach Ministries Church, in Memphis, Tennessee, my wife and I were required to take thirteen "perfecting classes" for participation in any of the helps ministries. My eyes were literally opened to a whole new world of spiritual understanding after I completed these insightful course requirements. The myth and mystery of Christianity was replaced by wisdom, knowledge and understanding of the gospel that I could use to build and strengthen my faith. This book was born out of the information I received in these "perfecting classes." As I was studying for these classes, I took a lot of notes. I felt a strong desire to share my new-found wisdom with others, so I decided to transform the notes into this book. The word of God is the foundation of the Christian faith. The stronger the foundation, the more trials, tribulations, and temptations we can endure. Just like a diamond, true perfection is never achieved without tremendous heat and pressure. I realized that the problems I face were not a punishment from God, but rather, it was him allowing things to happen in order to perfect the faith that lives inside. The more we work on perfecting our faith, the closer we will get to becoming what God created us to be. Just like the "perfecting classes" were the spiritual first aid I need to heal my personal problems, I hope that you can find the same type of healing within the text of this writings as well. God has a divine plan for us all, but that plan requires us to be in good health spiritually in order to hear his voice of instruction which will help us fight the battles of world opposition to come. May God continue to pour his mercy upon you and let his holy word give you the "First Aid for the Spirit" that will sustain you forever.

    Foreword

Iam humbled to be blessed with the opportunity to write a foreword for this spirit led masterpiece, First Aid for The Spirit, written by my dear Cousin, David Rose.

It was a wakeup call to my spirit as I critiqued this God led endeavor. I was particularly impressed with the prayers at the end of each chapter which gives the reader an opportunity to close some doors that have been opened to Satan during their life.

If persons who read this book do so with an open mind, spirit and heart, it will cause wonderful changes in their lives.

These writings are truly First Aid for The Spirit. We all need to realize we’ve sinned and fallen short along our pathway of life, but we serve a mighty awesome God who loves us and gladly gives us another chance at living in His way and will.

To God Be the Glory, David, for the great things He’s done. I know our family members, who are no longer with us, would be very proud of the godly man you’ve become. Continue to listen and obey His voice.

David and I grew up in a family of five, two brothers and one sister. David is about six years older than me and our sister, Renee, is about two years older than David. Needless to say, David and Renee were quite close due to their proximity in age, but David and I always had a special bond since we were brothers. Our parents were God fearing people that always wanted each of us to have a better life than they did. Even though Mom and Dad never completed college, they managed to successfully put all three of us through college.

Over the years David and I have endured some hardships and pain. Mom passed away in November of 1985 at the early age of fifty-five from a bout with cancer, Dad passed away suddenly in July of 2002 at the age of 72, and Renee died from cancer in September of 2013 at the age of 59. Having suffered through each of these lose, David and I thankfully have grown closer to God rather than away from him. I do believe that our trials have made us stronger and allowed us to gain a better relationship with God. So what was supposed to bring us down actually served to build us up and help us to clarify what God has in store for our lives.

First Aid for the Spirit is the fruit of that revelation and is an inspiring work for anyone desiring a closer walk with God.

The writer of this book has tremendous theological insight to the importance of establishing an absorption and fulfillment of God’s Holy Word. He makes it clear that the years in family church, didn’t give him the spiritual satisfaction until he was submersed and fulfilled with God’s anointing and understanding of his Holy Word.

The book covers many areas that impact upon our social, political, and spiritual development as we prepare to enter into the present kingdom of God. Many have refused to explore this area but the true word must be understood and studied as the author emphasizes.

The reason we have lost so many of our youth today is because the word has not been clearly taught and shared by those who profess to be our spiritual leaders.

The author provides spiritual examples that certainly lead to wholly rely upon the word of God.

There is also great emphasis on faith and trust in almighty God. Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul (Matthew 22:37)

This is God’s first and greatest commandment, and then we should love our neighbor as ourselves.

The reader will truly experience an unrelenting love for Christ who gave His life for us, but this can only happen with a true comprehension of the word.

I challenge you to read the book and it will cause you to inhale so much knowledge that you will become very anxious to exhale, sharing joy to a sinful world.

    Introduction

Hope is the vision of that which exists just beyond the horizon. This hope is what we need to sustain our day-to-day living. Without it, our vision of the future would change from the glory of a sunrise to a rapidly darkening sunset, or a future of promise to a life of seemly inescapable defeat. Everyone needs hope to survive.

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. (Hebrews 11:1)

Whenever you rely only on physical vision for the fulfillment of future dreams, the world can create a false picture that is sometimes very difficult to overcome. On the other hand, a spiritually minded person walks through life by faith and not by physical sight. By moving into this level of belief in God, it will not matter what picture the world paints before us. Our eyes are not the key to vision but, rather, our heart that has been transformed by God. True vision is based on the appropriate level of faith, ever increasing with one’s knowledge of God’s word and not by what is seen with the naked eye.

This book was conceived with God’s guidance and direction to offer insight into answering basic spiritual questions and to help Christian believers heal spiritually from the pain and suffering encountered in daily living. We are spiritual beings housed in a physical body. Whether it is placing a Band-Aid on a small cut or scrape, stitching an open wound, mending a broken limb, or administering medicine to control an allergic reaction, this physical shell will require many forms of first aid in a lifetime. Because of our sins, our spirits will also fall prey to all types of injuries, which to will leave us hurt, wounded, scared, and broken.

To survive, spiritual first aid is available to treat the wounds inflicted by the world. It will mend broken hearts, heal fractured relationships, close the wounds of hatred and indifference, and rescue souls drowning in despair. This first aid does not start on the outside of the physical body, but rather on the inside of the spirit. It starts with faith in Jesus Christ and his healing grace. Through Jesus Christ, no pain is impossible or sorrow too great to bear.

Jesus Christ suffered and died for our sins, so that we would not have to experience spiritual death. The word of God is our guide to living in such a way as to prevent spiritual death an injury. Let’s live the life that God has destined for us. But if we stumble and fall, we will know that by faith, our First Aid is only a prayer away.

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5)

    Words of Thanks

First, I would like to thank God for using me for this project and I hope that it will educate and enlighten others to his infinite grace and mercy as well as the knowledge, wisdom and understanding he has given us through his holy word. It was a great honor to put this book together and to be one of his obedient servants for the kingdom.

To my beautiful wife Vicki, that God sent to be my sole-mate for over thirty-six years. You have truly been the one who, with the help of God, kept me spiritually grounded in the Lord. You have been strong when I was weak and wise when my judgement became impaired. You are my true soul mate and friend for life.

To my parents Calvin and Eleanor, who left this life sooner than I would have liked, but God is in control. You taught me to be a good and honest person and to carry myself with pride, dignity and honor, while always putting God first in everything that I undertake. I truly miss your presents, but always feel your spirit is with me.

To my big sister Renee, who pasted in 2013, for the wonderful trips and talks we had together and how you encouraged me at the start of this project with positive words of motivation to keep going. I truly miss her beautiful smile and calm spirit.

To my younger brother Walter, who is wise beyond his years, I thank you for always having the right words to say when I need them. Although, distance may keep us apart physically, God has always bonded us spiritually. We have so much in common with our families, hobbies and our faith, and that we let God use us for his service. May God continue to bless you and your family.

To all my wonderful children, Tiffani, David ll, Daniel and Tia, I thank you for making me so proud with all the godly service you are doing in your individual communities. I see how all of you are always willing to serve in your church, community and schools, while still taking time to help others in need. The bible says you are known by the fruit that you bear and the four of you always make my tree look full of good fruit. I will love you always.

To my support team: Uncle Archie & Barbara Richmond, Earline & Al Thomas, Aunt Laurie Peery, Robert & Sandy Holman and Gil &Sybille Noble, who have prayed and supported me in everything that I have ever done. They have also been a blessing to my wife and children in so many ways over the years. My life would not be the same without your kindness and love. I will forever be indebted to you all.

To Rev. Harrilene Shackelford, Deacon Walter Rose and Rev. Louis Sanders for all of their wonderful words of encouragement, stated in their forewords. You are true children of God and I will always be indebted to you for your praise and spiritual perception concerning this project.

To all of my family members, pastors, teachers and friends who have supported me over the years, I would like you to know how much our relationship means to me. If not for your love and support, I would not be able to complete a project such as this. All of you have been my First aid for the Spirit

    Purpose

First aid: The emergency treatment administered to injured or sick persons before professional medical care is available.

In 2000, my family and I were searching for a new church home in Memphis, Tennessee. The church we attended previously changed leadership, which resulted in a physical and spiritual division among the fellowship. As a result of the pastoral transition, along with the conflicting congregational issues, we decided to join World Overcomers Outreach Ministries Church (WOOMC), under the leadership of Apostle Alton R. Williams.

Apostle Williams is a wonderful pastor and shepherd. He
