I want to share what I have found to be a few golden nuggets of living. As an enlightened, joyful fifty-nine-year-old American woman with now more than half of my life in hindsight, the understanding of these golden nuggets makes life seem so Simple, so Logical, and so Clear.
The old saying, Some folks grow up and some folks just grow old.
To grow up means to mature in understanding; to grow old means simply age.
While I have aged, I have matured as well.
Mature is defined as
based on slow careful consideration,
having attained a final or desired state,
of or relating to full development,
due for payment.
It is due time that I stand up and acknowledge that I was created and born for a purpose, to live with purpose, and leave (die) with my purpose accomplished.
I was created to live before I die! Created to live before I die, sounds weird. I understand that many have been created or formed, but never born. This untitled poem came to my spirit when I began writing this book in 2011:
Life given by God, the Creator, intended peaceful and serene.
Lots of choices appeared good, but quickly destroyed the scene.
Love, Obey, Live, our spirit could not deny,
Have your way, feel good about it,
our flesh began to cry.
Flesh ways, wasted days, unsteady brings no peace,
Not one created, birthed or taught can tame flesh subtle beast
But God, the Creator, who loves us all,
yet we still tend to doubt him,
Get understanding regarding life
No one truly lives without him. (cdh)
Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore, get wisdom;
and with all thy getting get understanding. (Proverbs 4:7, KJV Scofield Study Bible)
Understanding the verb means:
to grasp the meaning of: Comprehend
to have thorough or technical acquaintance with or expertness in
Understanding the noun means:
knowledge and ability to judge: Intelligence
agreement of opinion or feeling
Understanding the adjective means:
endowed with understanding: Tolerant, Sympathetic
Understanding is a wellspring (a source, a fountain or an apparatus) of life.
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of Life and man became a living soul
(Genesis 2:7 KJV Scofield Study Bible).
Because the Breath of God… Life is in each one of us. This inspired acronym of life below is something that we all have the ability to do and actively live:
L—Love others
I—In spite of
F—Forgive
E—Everyone/everything
Chapter One
Understanding Perception
Through My Eyes Only
A great philosopher once said, Children are great observers, but bad interpreters.
I had some very strong beliefs that were based on my experiences and my environment. Only to find out that most of what I believed and perceived was inaccurate, unfounded, and simply wrong.
I discovered that my thoughts, my interpretations, my conclusions, my summations and my long-held beliefs had only come through my rose-colored glasses,
my personal filter of experiences, and my customized, limited environment.
My personal conclusions about life are a culmination of things that I had felt, observed, and heard. Things that I saw demonstrated and things that I thought I was taught to believe or understand. It was to my shock and horror, the dismantling of my foundation, the unraveling of my identity to find out that others don’t see, understand, perceive, or come to conclusions like me.
From a very early age, we are taught to be cautious of others who don’t look or behave like us. Everyone knows or has heard the saying, Birds of a feather, flock together.
We are taught very early in life to judge, to isolate or embrace, to accept or reject, to approve or disapprove. Therefore, in my mind, while growing up, if I got along with others, it had to be because we were just alike or had similar parental expectations and/or values.
A conservative lifestyle leads to a conservative mindset just as a liberal lifestyle leads to a liberal mindset. A balanced view of life perspectives and life perceptions lead to a balanced mindset.
I was about thirty-five years of age, when driving down the road one day, listening to talk radio. Someone of my
