About this ebook

What's your earliest memory? Did it ever happen?

What's the weirdest thing grown-ups do?

Do you believe in magic?

What scares you the most?

What makes you smile, sing and dance?

What makes you, you?

Tales of Wonder Keepers follows Hayley on her journey from childhood to early adolescence. With a voice both wise and witty, and sometimes emotional but always delightful, Hayley's poetry captures a scene from the daily life of a young child and presents an intriguing puzzle to solve as she navigates the twists and turns of growing up. Each poem is a complete canvas painted in lyrical words that is framed by her own thoughts, memories, experiences and feelings from a complex emotion, such as fear, courage, loss, friendship, family to some of the big questions a pre-teen would ask about body image, self-acceptance, environmental awareness, perseverance and strength.

Presented in richly crafted thematic sections with whimsical illustrations, there's an immersive world to explore with each turn of the page. Somewhere along the way, you might find a memory jar that reminds you of the important things--things that should be remembered and celebrated. Tales of Wonder Keepers is a compelling journey that takes a reader through the myriad of ways to look at beauty, uncertainties and imperfections of the world through the lens of wonder. In its own way, each poem invites the reader not only to be a keen observer of this interconnected world in which we live in but also to be a keeper of the wonder that lives in us.

    About the Author

For Mom, who taught me it's okay to write and color outside the lines. I still do

For Dad, who have always encouraged me to seek new adventures, especially this one

For every child who has ever heard the ocean in a conch shell

For the child we once were

For those who love the stars and still love them even when they aren't in the sky

And in loving memory of my Grandmother, Grace,

who will always be the keeper of the world's wonders, our family stories and memories

Whisk yourself away into the most stunning landscapes of my world. You see, the funny thing about my world is that the scenery changes with the position of the sun on its daily path across the sky. It might just sweep you to another unfamiliar universe or just another place within your world. Let your imagination run wild, let it be bigger than the pages of this book.

I wonder what babies would say if they were able to put

    their thoughts into poetry?

    ~ Hayley

    Little Things

    Ma's smile reaches her eyes

Like stars that sparkle in the skies

    I see love.

Ma's embrace is as warm as the sun

There's no safer haven than Ma's arms

    I see protection.

Ma's lips resemble a crescent moon

Whenever she hums a lovely tune

    I see comfort.

    Pa's beard was thick
