Nature Poems
Pine Bough Prayer
In a still green sanctuary,
Pine trees stand straight as arrows,
Reverent and ready
To provide a place to pray
For those who seek solace.
Every needle a listener,
Every branch a quiet friend,
Its trunk a symbol
Of what is strong,
Dependable, ever-present, and good.
Not solely a place of shelter
For small creatures in need of protection,
It has become a safe haven
For my innermost thoughts,
A place to think deeply and dream.
Lost in my own paradise,
I recall sweet scenarios
From the past and
Anticipate future wonders
But only for a split second—
The present moment
In this surrounding beauty
Is something to be simmered slowly
And then savored.
In a world of hurry-ups
And fast service,
This is a gift to myself
That I will choose to open again and again…
When the man-made world
Attempts to swallow me whole
And spit out my Spirit
I will come here
To reclaim Myself.
The winds will whisper
Affirmations in my ear.
I will gather strength
From the sturdy trunks.
And as I share my Heart,
Hugged by the comforting
Arms of the pine boughs,
The trees will be listening,
As always…

Dandelion Dreams
Lazy summer mornings,
Birds chirping their concerto
As bare feet
First touch tall, cool stems of grass.
Floral garden splendor,
A Monet-like painting
In a backyard frame
As bees and butterflies
Flutter in and out of
A colorful palette.
Ice cold pitchers of lemonade,
Thick juicy slices of watermelon
And plump red strawberries
Sweetened with just a hint of sugar.
Hammock heaven
As dandelion dreams
Offer pleasant ponderings
And soulful searching.
Sun’s warmth at midday
On lotion-laden faces
And bare midriffs
Marmalade moments
When the sweet smell of honeysuckle
Stays suspended in
Midsummer air
Long enough to feel
The stillness of summer,
Perfecting the art of
Doing absolutely nothing
Because—
Pleasure takes practice…
Winter’s Gifts
Frosty, lace-patterned
Panes of glass
Pine boughs,
Heavily laden
From the last snowfall,
Now curtsying to Madam Winter.
A quick-footed whitetail deer
Bounding gracefully into the woods,
Leaving tracks as evidence
Of her gentle presence.
Sparkles in the snow,
A frosty fairy’s frolic
With Nature’s glitter.
Bright red cardinals
Flying in and out of
Branches and bushes,
Creating a stark contrast
To the white stillness.
A picture postcard,
Beautiful winter moments.
Then, the best gift of all,
An early morning phone call,
