    About the Author

    To God Be the Glory!

In dedication to my family, my friends, and the ones I have had the pleasure of serving. And a very special thank you to Jane, a college and friend who gave encouragement.

    Introduction

My thoughts about the journey we travel in life: I feel like our last years of our life are often our best. Some of us travel far, learning many things as we go. You have all this treasure of beautiful, interesting tales of your adventures to tell and share with those around you. That is the polish on our rocking chair—if you can get anyone to listen.

I think we need to work on our presentation. While we need to keep it true to the facts and details, it must also be spellbinding in the presentation. Share the excitement, the joy, and your love of life with those who will come to listen to your stories. Life is not boring, and neither will your stories be. Just let the love in your heart flow, and it will touch and reach out, reminding us of why we are here.

I want to tell you a story of a crab and an oyster. They both started out as small things living in the water. Their lives were very similar, but also different. The crab and the oyster both had a shell they lived in. Going to-and-fro in the sea water, they found tidbits of things to eat and a house or a bed to share. All day long, every day, they would travel. People would hunt or cast nets to catch them, making tasty meals of their meat.

The crab would fight back with his pinchers to save his life, but the oyster, who was a little smarter, learned to make something the people wanted more than an oyster dinner.

The oyster discovered it by accident. He swallowed a grain of sand one day. The sand got in his stomach, and he couldn't get it out. It agitated him and made him do what he could to keep the sand from worrying him.

In the beginning, and resulting in the end of things, the oyster finally stopped being aggravated by the grain of sand. The oyster made a white creamy coating to put around the grain of sand. Sort of like putting a Band-Aid on a cut. Day by day the substance was applied. Soon the little grain of sand became quite large.

A fisherman came along and caught the oyster in his net. As the fisherman opened the shell to retrieve the meat, he found the beautiful large, white pearl. Instead of eating the oyster, he put it back into the water hoping the next time he netted the oyster there would be another pearl, also lovely, and being of great value to the man.

God layers our difficulties with His greatness and glory until we grow our own pearl of great price. To grow the pearl, we must develop ourselves to create the strength of character which coats our grain of worth with obedience. As we coat the difficulty day by day, we watch the obstacle become less and less of a difficulty. In the end, we have a beautiful gift. Just like the oyster, our gift (our pearl) is priceless.
