About this ebook

Two of our basic physical needs as humans are for food and drink. God, our creator placed within us a trigger switch that lets us know that our body is hungry and or thirsty. This happens in our natural bodies. That same principle is operating in our spirit, the part that God gave to every human. This spirit has a longing that only He can completely fill. Some try various things and ideologies and still come up empty, but Jesus is saying, "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls" (Matthew 11:28-29, KJV, Emphasis mine). He is the only One who can supply, or better yet, fill that need. He made you and He know all about you and still says, come. Come with a Hunger, Come with a Thirst, Be Filled to Overflow was written for people who have a need, an emptiness that nothing has completely satisfied or filled. It is a God-induced hunger and thirst that He purposely placed in everyone. Many have "bumped" into Him along the way, not realizing at the time that He had set up the meeting. He cares that much and wants to completely fill those hungry and thirsty places. Matthew 5:6 states, "They shall be filled." This narrative, as I call it, is not one where you must start at the beginning to get a full understanding as to what is being addressed. If one chooses to start at the end or in the middle, it will be okay because all of it is about the multifaceted Holy God and how He has always had a plan to give each and every one what was needed in their life, and that included you! If you choose not to start at the beginning, you will still find His richness interwoven throughout the pages. He so much wants to fill each of us with what is needed to face and live this life while enlightening others along this journey. In some areas you will find it to be a devotional that day, giving direction for the many changes and challenges life brings. At times, you may find yourself laughing as you begin to see Jesus as both man and God, experiencing life as you do with its ups and downs. Tears of joy may fall from time to time because your spirit is in agreement by the thoughts He has been giving to you and now it is right before your eyes. Prepare to learn of some mysteries that you may have never heard before, but wondered about this never-ending Love story between humans and Divinity. God BLESS!

    About the Author

    Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;

    Praise Him, all creatures here below;

    Praise Him above, ye heav’n-ly host;

    Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen

    —Louis Bourgeois, Genevan Psalter (1551)

    And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For everyone that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?

    —Luke 11:9–13 (KJV)

    Preface

    As you read, imagine yourself as a young child sitting on a blanket in someone’s front yard, looking up to the teacher, an older lady who has very kind blue eyes with a smile that lights up when she talked to you and to every little boy and girl who sat before her. Each week she would drive her little Volkswagen van into a neighborhood that was outside of her own to people who didn’t look like her, taking a risk, but did so because she believed that everyone should hear the Extra! Extra! Good News, faithfully sharing this fascinating on going story, about Love.

    In reality, I was that young child, who could hardly wait for Mrs. Carlson to come each week, to tell me about things I had never heard before, even though I went to church with my family every Sunday, or maybe because, she told it differently with a smile, excitement, and a flannel board, opening up a whole new world to me in a front yard! I don’t know. I just know from that early time in my life, I began to fall in love with hearing messages from God’s Word, the Bible, and I wanted to hear more and more.

    Maybe I loved it for how she presented it, making it understandable and relatable. This has been on my mind to try and render the same service to others, who may not be a child, but are similar to me, children at heart who are thirsty, and want to know more about this Love story, and how they fit into it. My desire is to interweave both the Old and New Testaments, with hope of bridging some gaps, but most importantly to create a thirst for more that will give the reader the opportunity to dig their own wells.

    God, the Omniscient One, knew He would be rejected, but because of His love for people, He already had a plan before the foundation of the world (Matthew 25:34) that this rejection would open the door to outsiders that would, in turn, take this grace He offered and run with it.

    My purpose is to hopefully provoke those who do not know about the parallels and also the many connections that God has given in His Word from the very beginning between His chosen people, and those who were once upon a time outside of that covenant relationship.

    For those who are or not Believer’s thus far, it is my hope and prayer that a thirst will be created while reading, and the stop points along the way that indicate (Read) will be heeded. This is purposed throughout. There are many correlations of prophesies in the Old Testament, hundreds of years earlier, about the coming of the promised Messiah before He came, which were later revealed in the New Testament.

    God used many witnesses who spoke about the teachings, and work of Jesus, His death and resurrection, and His walking amongst the people for forty days before His ascension back into heaven. God was sending back His promised precious gift (the Holy Ghost) in the New Testament, but prophesied in the Book of Joel in the Old Testament. From there, we can better understand the plan God has for all today.

    The narrative, as I call this work, is coming from a person who is just like most people. As I grew older, I wanted to know more about this ongoing never-ending Love story, that was written for me, but didn’t know where to start. Many times, I relied on others to tell me. I found that many times God uses the very pain and disappointments in life to create a real hunger and thirst for Him, and to teach or deliver a message. I took Him at His word, and asked and sought Him, and He is faithful to His word, He answered me. Today He continues to pour in so that I can present myself as a drink offering to others. It’s no different than anyone else with the same desires. He keeps giving again and again. For this, I give Him the praise and honor!

    Along with the teaching and training of my own children, I have a long history of teaching assignments to people of all kinds and ages in various capacities. When reading this narrative, imagine a teacher standing before a classroom, escorting the students at times, but challenging their thoughts most of the time. So as a student, ingest this narrative a little at a time, along with the Bible, a pen, and notepaper, and begin this never-ending Love journey. My personal love for God’s Word, has been a part of my life since the days Mrs. Carlson brought it to my neighborhood, and would sing:

    Good news! Good news! Christ died for me!

    Good news! Good news! If I believe;

    Good news! Good news! I’m saved eternally!

    That’s wonderful Extra! Good News!

    Who hath saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began

    —2 Timothy 1:9 (KJV)

    The Forerunner and The Finisher

    John, as we read in scripture, was filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb (Luke 1:15). I want to believe it happened when the mothers of both John and Jesus greeted one another, and John leaped inside his mother’s womb, that there was a transfer from our heavenly Father, empowering John ahead of time, for a very important work that was in front of him. Elizabeth, his mother was filled with the Holy Ghost when she heard Mary’s voice. Just carrying the Word causes a supernatural change in the life of a person, and those they come in contact. Baby John leaped inside of his mother!

    Before John’s birth, the mouth of his elderly father, Zacharias the priest, had been shut by God’s messenger Gabriel for nine months, unable to verbally communicate due to his unbelief, after being told that his prayers had been heard. God was answering both his and his wife’s prayers by making them pregnant. After his son’s birth, God loosed his tongue, filling him also with the Holy Ghost. He began to speak, praising God and prophesying. This prophetic word was primarily for the Jews, or the children of Israel at that time. It is also for all people today, to look at what has already been fulfilled in scripture, and what is yet to come (Read Luke 1:68–79).

    Next, we hear John himself speaking about the Holy
