    About The Author

    Acknowledgements

I would like to thank everyone who has ever encouraged me in my writing. I would especially like to thank my late mother Norma Jean Denham, my husband Leon, my daughter Erin, my best friend Karen and my inspiring grandchildren Nathan and Victoria. Most of all, I would like to thank God above for watching over me and leading my life in the direction that He has. For the Bible says in Romans 8:28, All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.

When you take a look at me

What is it that you really see?

Are you looking at my skin

    Or somewhere deeper down within?

For don’t you realize, don’t you see,

My skin is just a part of me.

And the part that you can’t see,

That’s the part that’s really me.

Where I’m going and where I’ve been,

The way I’m feeling deep within,

My hopes, my dreams, my tears and strife

And goals that I have for my life

These are the things defining me.

I wish you’d take the time to see.

For I am someone just like you

Who wants love and acceptance too.

I long for you to look at me

And somehow past my color see.

Someone of value you would find,

    If only you were color-blind.

    Angels Watching Over Me

There are angels watching over me,

    Angels I can’t see.

There are angels watching over me,

    Protecting constantly.

    They watch my every step

As they walk beside of me.

    And when danger lies ahead,

    They guide so carefully.

They guide me through my darkest hour

    And through my brightest day.

They guide me through my toughest times,

When I can’t find my way.

Though some may say they don’t exist,

    Myself I can’t agree.

For I know that mine are always near,

    Watching over me.
