About this ebook
Before the printing press was invented, books were handwritten and very scarce. Of course not many people could read, but those that could, sometimes gave what I call recitations. When people gathered in groups, as a form of entertainment someone would read from books of many famous authors. These readings were usually in poetic form., and often excerpts from plays by Shakespeare and many other prominent writers of the day. This book is composed of a variety of verse form, both spiritual, and hopefully inspirational, funny and sometimes, just plain silly. I have enjoyed going to assisted living homes and giving these "recitations" . I find the residents very receptive. It gives them things to think about and we have a lot of fun with the participation works. After each "recitation" we talk about our thoughts, and they come up with some very interesting takes and ideas that they share with each other. This book is G rated, you will not find anything repugnant or any innuendos from the dark side.

Bring Back God
This is an introduction poem for an older
crowd.
Hello, I’m glad to be here—I hope you all are well.
And as I look around the room—I think you all look swell.
But as I contemplate you all—I think it’s kind of nifty.
And that’s because it seems to me—we all are over fifty.
Today we travel back in time—to centuries long ago.
There was no television then—not even radio.
But there were books not all could read—but some that did took pleasure.
By reading to an audience—while they were at their leisure.
They read from books by Shakespeare—back then, he was the fellow.
His repertoire included poems—he even wrote Othello.
And so I come to you today—to give a presentation.
With modern poems and limericks—this is my recitation.
I bet that many here today—are currently retired.
But just because your work has stopped—your life has not expired.
And aren’t we glad we lived in times—our world was rather sterile.
But things have changed and nowadays—we live with so much peril.
I can’t recall a date or year—things started going wrong.
It’s been a slowly growing thing—it’s taken very long.
When did it all begin? I ask—I cannot help but wonder.
It’s taken time so many years—for things to go asunder.
A bike ride in the city—so innocent and fun.
Can end with an encounter—of a person with a gun.
This world has good and evil—we have to make a choice.
By showing everyone we know—with actions and with voice.
Our life has rhyme and reason—but somethings makes no sense.
We have to make decisions—don’t stand up on the fence.
We have to put aside our hate—our arrogance and greed.
And know that God is needed—for this whole world to succeed.
Now how do we accomplish this?—Put church into the plan.
And start it with the children—and take them when you can.
And how about your single friends—who won’t go on their own?
Invite them when you see them—or call them on the phone.
Maybe a friend or neighbor—who doesn’t drive at all.
Use your own initiative—and just give them a call.
Got to get the numbers up—make Christians number one.
Once we have believers—our work is almost done.
They will learn that God is real—desert you, he will never.
He sent his Son to die for us—so we will live forever.
Jesus is the way, the light—He died for all our sin.
And he promised that someday—he will return again.
God made this whole big universe—our earth a special place.
He blessed us all with many gifts—and his amazing grace.
Are we a country under God?—Or will the evil win?
I think we know the answer is—to BRING BACK GOD AGAIN.
Creation
The Bible has so many pages.
They think it was written in stages.
It starts with creation
And speaks of damnation.
And it has been studied for ages.
The first day, God made dark and light.
We now call it day and night.
And after that pair,
He created the air.
He worked hard to get it all right.
The next thing was water and land.
I guess that included the sand.
And then very soon,
The sun and the moon.
It started out just as he planned.
The water, he filled with the fish.
Then birds in the sky were his wish.
He then made the creatures
With all kind of features.
The animals did fill that dish.
When Adam was finally created.
God gave it some thought and debated.
Should I make a girl?
I’ll give it a whirl.
And Adam was very elated.
But God told them, "Here is the rule.
If you eat that fruit, you’re a fool."
He said, "That’s a sin.
I won’t tell you again."
Please don’t make me have to be Cruel.
Well, sure enough, Adam and Eve.
They disobeyed God, I believe.
And then with a shout,
He ordered them out.
And Eden, they both had to leave.
And that’s when the whole world began.
With only one woman and man.
It didn’t take long,
For things to go wrong.
And God was upset with his plan.
You see, God created men free.
He wanted a big family.
To lead a good life
As husband or wife.
But Satan, he didn’t agree.
The devil was counting on sin.
The battle was his, he could win.
But he knew he must
Encourage their lust.
And then his whole reign would begin.
But God was a fighter and so.
He wanted his family to know.
Forget all your fear.
I’ll always be near.
And I’ll cast that devil below.
But still his temptation existed.
And much of the sinning persisted.
God’s message got through.
To only a few.
The rest of the people resisted.
And then he gave Moses some rules.
To give to his people as tools.
"Just follow these ten
Commandments and then.
You all will stop acting like fools."
But still all the sinning persisted.
God knew what to do but resisted.
He felt that the earth
Would need a rebirth,
And Noah and family assisted.
But people kept going adrift.
They cheated and quarreled and rifted.
God thought of a way.
Much to his dismay.
And sent us his Son as a gift.
An angel appeared before Mary.
He told her that she was to carry
The Son of our Lord,
Although it was hard,
Dear Joseph was willing to marry.
Then finally the hour had come.
Dear Mary delivered his Son.
The word got around.
A new king was found.
Their troubles had only begun.
And as he was growing, he knew.
That he had a task he must do.
He then realized,
When he was baptized,
He’d soon be confronting a Jew.
He picked out twelve men to abide.
They faithfully stayed by his side.
He healed many sick.
It wasn’t a trick.
His miracles, he couldn’t hide.
His reign didn’t last very long.
He knew he would have to be strong.
Palm Sunday was grand.
That’s when Judas planned.
But later, he knew he was wrong.
The soldiers found him in a garden.
They seized him for Herod the warden.
The people said no.
Do not let him go.
And Herod would not give a pardon.
He carried his cross to a hill.
He knew he was doing God’s will.
Poor Mary was crying.
She watched her
