About this ebook

Glory to Glory is a contemporary study of the reality of Jehovah-Elyon, the Most High of heaven and earth. It takes into consideration a variety of views, including that of classical Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, early African, and Judaism.

It follows Jehovah from before the creation of the world to the final judgment and the New Heaven and New Earth. It also examines closely the functioning of Lucifer as the morning star and after his rebellion.

The book essentially presents Jehovah-Elyon as the one "who is great and greatly to be praised, whose greatness is unsearchable." It presents the Father, whose "name is blessed and exalted above all blessing and praise," whose "name alone is excellent, whose glory is above the heaven and the earth," and who is the praise of all the saints.

    About the Author

This study is gratefully dedicated to the glory of our Father and to the Church Triumphant, the Household of Faith, Invisible, Indivisible, who walk by faith and not by sight.

    Knowing Jehovah

We have all heard from the cradle about Jehovah (God), Jesus, and Satan. We have heard about hell and heaven. We have heard about good and evil and of light and darkness. We have certainly heard of judgment and judgment day.

No doubt, most of us have asked ourselves at some point—what is the real story? What is the truth? At the very least, what is the full story? This is an attempt to begin to answer these questions and, especially, to motivate us to prayerfully get the answers for ourselves.

The Easter season celebrates the victory of Jesus over sin, Satan, death, hell and the grave. The Bible says, He made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it (Colossians 2:15).

In making this study, Glory to Glory, we will consider closely the following:

    Outline

    In the Beginning—Jehovah, Elohim

Genesis reveals God, El Elyon, Elohim as Creator and the original source of all things. The designation Elohim is plural and refers to the Father, the Son, and the blessed Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:26, 1 John 5:7). Only three creative acts of Elohim are mentioned in chapter 1. They are: the heaven and the earth in verse 1, animal life in verses 20–21, and human life in verses 26–27.

The Bible presents Elohim as a being who needs no philosophic introduction and no intellectual presentation but as a being indefinable, and absolute in His being (Revelation 4:6–11). The four beings mentioned in this passage are four vindicators of the wholeness, the completeness, or holiness of Jehovah-Elohim (Revelation 6:8). This is why in Genesis 1:1, there is the definitive, bold, and absolute declaration, In the beginning, (God) created the heaven and the earth. Inherent and implied in that declaration is that Jehovah-Elyon had at His disposal, as a result of His creative power, all the material that He would need to complete the task of bringing the entire universe into existence.

So let us first consider Genesis 1:2, which says, And the earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the earth. And the Spirit of God moved upon the waters. The consideration shifts from that of the creation of heaven and earth to an emphasis on earth alone. In Isaiah 45:18, we read, For thus says the Lord that created the heavens; the Lord himself that formed the earth and made it; He has established it; He did not create it in vain; He formed it to be inhabited; I am the Lord, and there is none else.

In Isaiah 45:12 and Ezekiel 28:12, reference is made to the brilliance and beauty of Lucifer. It presents a picture of the earth being created perfectly. After an indeterminate period of time, Lucifer, who dominated the earth and the heavens under Jehovah and as an exact reflection of God who cannot be seen, rebelled and influenced away thousands of angelic beings, and the earth became without form and void, and darkness covered the face of the deep. The Hebrew expression for the term without form and void is tohuwabohu, which is a phrase used in only two other places and always suggests divine judgment.

Those two places are Isaiah 34:11 and Jeremiah 4:23. But it is worth reading from verse 8b in Isaiah 34, which states, among other things, For it is the day of the Lord's vengeance, and the year of recompenses for the controversy of Zion. And verse 9 continues the thought, specifically leading to verse 11. It states, And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch; and the dust thereof into brimstone; and the land thereof shall be turned into burning pitch. Verse 11 says, He shall stretch out upon it the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness. In the case of Jeremiah 4, you will find it profitable to read verses 22–28 for a very graphic description of divine judgment.

And now let us return to the consideration of Genesis 1 because we were left with a sense of incompleteness. First, we had the declarations in verses 1–2, In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep; And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. Beginning at verse 3, there is the appearance of light; verse 5 presents the presence of a firmament, vapor, and water; verse 9 reveals the emergence of land, sea, and plant life; verses 20–23 are of animal life, including whales and winged creatures; and verses 24–25 are of all living creeping creatures.

If we were left at the end of verse 25, we would be in a dilemma, a puzzle, or a sort of vacuum if you please. It would, however, be clear that such a situation would be one of deliberate incompleteness. There is more of the story that should and could be told, and we will pursue that after we have presented a bit more for consideration.

Elohim is perfection and completeness. He is wholeness, and all of these combined represent holiness. Therefore, anything that He does or anything that He brings into existence is itself complete and whole and therefore holy. Psalm 145:17 states that, The Lord is righteous in all His ways, and Holy in all His works. Further, the testimony of scripture concerning heaven is that
