About this ebook

In a world of disillusioned people standing in the rubble of shattered dreams, selfish indifference and crushed aspirations, this book is written to convey a message designed to compel all readers to seek God's guidance as He "rocks" them out of their comfort zones. These self-imposed boundaries limit the Abundant Life promised in the Word of God. An abundant life abounding in the fullness of joy and strength for spirit, soul, mind and body. This does not mean a painless or problem-free journey in life nor one that is judged as "successful" by your possessions or status in society. Rather, all believers are promised to receive God's peace, grace, new mercies every day and blessings in every area of life.

New and positive life experiences, unanswered prayer requests, healing in the land and the eradication of long-established injustices are possible when people choose to let go of complacent, defeated and angry actions that continue to divide us. Comfort Zones diminish the hopeful and divine expectations of the Spirit man because of self-satisfaction and acceptance of what is familiar and comfortable.

As you read these words, consider where you are in your walk with the Lord. Are you choosing to continue to limit your potential or are you seeking and believing for more from the God who is...MORE THAN ENOUGH?

God Will Rock Your Comfort Zone - Dr. Michelle P. Heard

Chapter One: The Dangers of Complacency

    The Dangers of Complacency

I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot; I would thou was cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of my mouth.

    —Revelation 3:15–16 (KJV)

As believers in Jesus Christ, we need to be aware that it is possible to become stagnant and indifferent in regards to our relationship and fellowship with God when we allow attitudes of self-satisfaction to affect our reasoning processes. It is easy to believe that we are doing enough in our daily lives to exemplify our confessions as Christians, especially when we are church leaders or members in a congregation servicing others. It is, therefore, important to ask God daily to reveal any attitudes of self-sufficiency and spiritual indifference that may open the door to pride and impede spiritual maturity. Human beings are imperfect creatures, and the Word reminds us that all believers fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). When Christians allow the satisfaction of self to become more important than God, we limit our spiritual growth and divine potential, settling for a form of godliness that is not only unaware of the dangers in self-satisfaction, but also diminishes the desire within believers to press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14).

The self-imposed restrictions defining a lukewarm Christian lifestyle open the door to fear and doubt about the promises found in God’s Word. Having personally experienced some indifference in my own walk with the Lord, I now realize that this attitude originated with a spirit of gradual resistance. Gradually resisting my daily devotional time made it easier for me to accept my own standards of acceptable behavior and practices, which excused setting aside a quiet time and place to focus on God and reflect on my relationship with Him. I chose to accept my rationale that as long as things were going all right, I must be alright with God. Gradually, I made more excuses and found less time to pray, read scriptures, or spend quiet moments with the Lord that are so essential in strengthening our relationship with Jesus Christ.

Excuses starve the Holy Spirit within us and allow our flesh to overpower. The results may open the door to an unenthusiastic Christian life that diminishes the abundant living that God has promised in the Word. Just as daily nourishment is needed for the body, a daily commitment to spend time in fellowship with our Savior is necessary in order to increase our understanding of His purpose for our lives. Quoting scriptures and possessing the ability to teach scriptures is not enough to satisfy the hunger for a true communion with Jesus Christ. Only when the believer has totally surrendered and completely committed their heart to seeking and pleasing God can the true peace that passes all understanding become a reality in one’s life. Self-satisfaction and a presumptuous acceptance of one’s human righteousness will limit the believer to a comfort zone that produces little, if any,
