About this ebook

"He Alone Is Worthy" is a devotional that uses the Word of God to inspire and stimulate prayer. Jesus is the Living Word-He lived out the Word of God as he walked among us over 2000 years ago. We can be sure we are praying in his name when we use the scriptures for prayer. Jesus promises when we ask anything in his name, we will receive the perfect answer from the Father. Jesus, the Father, and the Holy Spirit alone are worthy of our praise and our prayers. Come, Savior, Come

My heart awaits and cries out, come

Come, Savior, make my heart your home

Within the darkness of this night

Come, Savior, come and shine your light

My need is great; I cannot see

Until you take my hand and lead

Do not despair my soul, awake

He comes again, my sins to take

He died, was risen all for me

    He comes to bring eternity

My soul rejoices, my savior dear

    Repentance, Forgiveness, Salvation

    THE GOD OF OUR SALVATION

    Scripture:

Help us, O God of our salvation! Help us for the honor of your name. Oh, save us and forgive our sins for the sake of your name. Psalm 79:9

Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you. Psalm 25:5

For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved… For anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Romans 10:9,13

    Application:

How blest we are to have a wonderful God who saves us! He has provided the way to have our sins forgiven through Jesus Christ, our Lord. When we call on His name, believing in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead, we glorify our God who has done it all for His honor and our benefit.

    Prayer:

Thank you, O God of our Salvation, that you have provided us a name, which is above all names, and you will always hold up the name of Jesus; that we may know where our salvation comes from. We put our hope in no one else but you, Lord. We confess that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior, and that you raised him from the dead. Holy Spirit, keep these truths alive in our hearts, minds, and spirits. We love you, O God of our Salvation. Amen.

    JESUS, THE SAVIOR OF ALL

    Scripture:

I love you, Lord; you are my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the strength of my salvation; and my stronghold. I will call on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, for he saves me from my enemies. Psalm 18:1–3

0 Sovereign Lord, my strong savior, you protected me on the day of battle. Psalm 140:7

And it was one of King David’s descendants, Jesus, who is God’s promised Savior of Israel! Brothers—you sons of Abraham, and also, all you devout Gentiles who fear the God of Israel—this salvation is for us! Acts 13:23,26

    Application:

Jesus is Savior. Jesus is our Shield. Jesus is our Stronghold. Jesus is Sovereign. Jesus is ever faithful and can never be taken away from those who run to Him and call upon His name. No enemy can destroy us; even Satan when we put our trust in King Jesus.

    Prayer:

O Lord, our Savior, we come gratefully before you. You are the rock that gives strength to our salvation. Thank you that we need never fear that the enemy of our souls can take away our salvation. You have secured it for us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Holy Spirit, be our shield when Satan tries to discourage us with his lies. We hide ourselves in the fortress of your love. We are ever thankful that you freely give salvation to anyone who asks and anyone who places their trust in Jesus. We praise and honor you Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit. Amen.

THE LORD IS THE LIGHT OF OUR SALVATION

    Scripture:

The Lord is the light of my salvation - so why should I be afraid? The Lord protects me from danger - so why should I tremble? Psalm 27:1

I wait quietly before God, for my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken. Psalm 62:1,2

For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with self-control, right conduct, and devotion to God. Titus 2: 11, 12

    Application:

When everything around us seems to grow darker and darker, the light of God grows brighter and brighter. His light will guide our steps. His light also shines on our sins and points out any evil within us that must be confessed. He doesn’t leave us alone, but He gives us His Spirit to strengthen us so we may live lives that are pleasing to Him—lives of self-control, holy choices, and devotion to Him.

    Prayer:

Dearest Jesus, we admit that we often cause our own danger in this life. We like to keep one foot in the world and the other in your kingdom. We know from experience that when we try to enjoy sinful pleasures, we find that we don’t really enjoy them and they certainly don’t bring us lasting pleasure. Holy Spirit, we need your guidance, correction, and discernment. Forewarn us before we lose self-control and fall into sin. God of our salvation, we want to hide ourselves in you. We want to come into your fortress and be protected from all the evil around us. Thank you that you desire to save us from ourselves and from the evil one. We call upon your grace and your love to surround us. May we always be devoted to you, Lord; giving you the thanks and praise that you deserve. Amen.

    HEALING AND SALVATION

    Scripture:

You, O God, are my king from ages past, bringing salvation to the earth. Psalm 74:12

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, ‘Leaders and elders of our nation, are we being questioned because we’ve done a good deed for a crippled man? Do you want to know how he was healed? Let me clearly state to you and all the people of Israel that he was healed in the name and power of Jesus Christ from Nazareth, the man you crucified, but whom God raised from the dead… There is salvation in no one else! There is no other name in all of heaven for people to call on to save them Acts 4:8–12

Come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us give a joyous shout to the rock of our salvation! Psalm 95:1

The Lord lives! Blessed be my rock! May the God of my salvation be exalted! Psalm 18:46

    Application:

We all need healing: physical, emotional, or spiritual. We all need salvation because we cannot save ourselves. Jesus is the only healer. Jesus is the only savior. He embodies all we need to live in this life and the life to come. When we put our trust in Him, we are completely healed and completely saved for all eternity.

    Prayer:

We sing and shout with the psalmist and with all those who have gone before us: the disciples and all the saints in Heaven. You are a forever God. You have always existed and will always exist—the Alpha and the Omega. Thank you, Lord, that from ages past, you planned our salvation. You alone can bring salvation to this earth through your Son, Jesus Christ. We continually thank you and praise you for this wonderful gift you have given us. Holy Spirit, make the truth of salvation live in our hearts and spirits, so that we are quick to speak of it to others and constantly live it out in our lives. We bless you and praise you our Triune God. Amen.

    TRUE REPENTANCE

    Scripture:

Have mercy on me, 0 God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. For I recognize my shameful deeds - they haunt me day and night. Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just. Psalm 51 :1–4

    Application:

This prayer of David was a prayer of a truly repentant heart. Perhaps, that is why God said of David, He is a man after my own heart. David had sinned greatly, but he recognized that his sin was not only against Bathsheba and Uriah (2Samuel11), but more precisely against God who had entrusted him with the kingdom of Israel. In our confession, God wants, even demands that we agree with him that what we have done is wrong, sinful, and evil. David acknowledged that the Father was right in His judgment against him. His prayer of confession is a good model for us to follow.

    Prayer:

Father God, how we identify with David as he poured out his heart to you. Every one of us have sinned against you in thought, word, or deed. We have even sinned in what we have left undone. Father, even after we confess and believe we are forgiven, we can sometimes be haunted and shamed by what we have done in the past. Thank you, Holy Spirit, that you are quick to remind us of our forgiveness by the blood of Jesus. Thank you, Father, that you are also quick to forgive us when we sin again and agree with you about our sin. We could not ask for a more just judge, Lord. Jesus sacrificed all that we might have such immediate relief from our guilt. It is by His precious blood that we can ask and receive your forgiveness and righteousness. We know how undeserving we are, and that is what makes our hearts so grateful to you. We sing your praises our righteous and perfectly fair Judge. Amen.

    JUSTICE FOR THE SINNER

    Scripture:

Give me happiness, O Lord, for my life depends on you. O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask your aid. Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord; hear my urgent cry. I will call to you whenever trouble strikes, and you will answer me. Psalm 86:4–7

    Application:

What do we deserve from God? We deserve severe punishment for our sins! However, our God loves us beyond anything we can imagine. He stepped down from His judgment throne in Heaven, came to us in human form, and took every ugly sin of mankind upon His back to the cross. He took our just punishment. He takes our sin and gives us His perfect righteousness when we trust Him. It is so easy to take for granted because of the many times we may have heard it. It is difficult to comprehend such love, but it is God’s real love for us. Let us accept His gift and praise Him!

    Prayer:

Father God, you are truly a Good Shepherd; one who looks after His flock and runs to help in times of trouble. Thank you that you are a forgiving God. Lord, we would be doomed and damned without your forgiving heart. Yet, Lord, your righteousness demands justice and punishment for sin. Thank you, Jesus, for taking our sins to the cross and our punishment on your body and in your spirit and suffering separation from the Father to redeem us. Thank you, Holy Spirit, for enabling us to understand and believe this truth. We rejoice because we are forgiven and redeemed by you our Triune God. Amen.

    OUR GOD FORGIVES

    Scripture:

"For the honor of your name, 0 Lord, forgive my many, many sins. Psalm 25:11

    Application:

Why are we so reluctant to confess our sins to the Lord? He has given so much so that we could be washed clean. Psalm 51:7 says, Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean: wash me and I will be white as snow. Isaiah 1:18 affirms, No matter how deep the stain of your sins, I can remove it. I can make you clean as freshly fallen snow. Even if you are stained as red as crimson, I can make you as white as wool. These are wonderful promises, and God provided the way through His Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. So, friends, let us examine ourselves with the help of the Holy Spirit; confess our sins and be washed clean.

    Prayer:

Father God, we confess we do not want to recount our many, many sins. We thank you for forgiving us of all the sins we have confessed. Lord, if there are any sins that we have failed to confess, please show us what they are. If there are sins we continue to commit knowingly or unknowingly, we pause now so your Holy Spirit may reveal truth to us. (Pause and ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you.) Holy Spirit, give us the clarity to see what you see in us and the strength to turn away from anything that displeases you. Jesus, we believe you bore on the cross all the punishment we deserve. How can we thank you and praise you enough? Please accept the humble thanks and praises of our hearts. Amen.

    STAIN REMOVED

    Scripture:

‘Come now, let us argue this out, says the Lord.’ No matter how deep the stain of your sins, I can remove it. I can make you as clean as freshly fallen snow. Even if you are stained as red as crimson, I can make you as white as wool. If you will obey me and let me help you, then you will have plenty to eat. But if you keep turning away and refusing to listen, you will be destroyed by your enemies. I, the Lord, have spoken! Isaiah 1: 18–20

    Application:

In the first chapter of the book of the prophet Isaiah, God reasons with the people of Israel. He confronts them with their unfaithfulness, and tells them their sacrifices, festivals, and prayers are a stench in my nostrils. He also tells them they have suffered many calamities as individuals and as a nation because of their sin. In fact, he says they are wounded and sick from head to foot and Jerusalem stands abandoned. God pleads with us today just as he pleaded with Israel in Isaiah’s day. He calls us to: wash yourselves clean, give up you wicked ways, learn to do good, seek justice, help the oppressed, defend the orphan, and fight for the rights of the widow. God wanted them, and he wants us to see His truth. He promises to forgive us and make us as white as newly fallen snow if we will agree with Him, confess, and turn away from sin.

    Prayer:

Dear Lord, what a promise this is! Why do we ever turn away from you and refuse to listen? And yet, we confess that we do. Lord, we have experienced time and time again that our enemy, Satan, destroys our peace and our joy when we turn away from you. Holy Spirit, we give you permission to turn our faces back to the Father and open our ears to hear you speak. We ask your forgiveness, Lord, and we thank you again for the cleansing blood of Jesus that makes us as white as snow. Amen.

    AN ALL-CONSUMING FIRE

    Scripture:

Though the Lord is very great and lives in heaven, he will make Jerusalem his home of justice and righteousness. In that day, he will be your sure foundation, providing a rich store of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. The fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure… the Lord says: ‘I will stand up and show my power and might. You Assyrians will gain nothing by all your efforts. Your own breath will turn to fire and kill you… Listen to what I have done, you nations far away! And you that are near, acknowledge my might!’ The sinners in Jerusalem shake with fear. ‘Which one of us,’ they cry, ‘can live here in the presence of this all- consuming fire?’ The ones who can live here are those who are honest and fair, who reject making a profit by fraud, who stay far away from bribes, who refuse to listen to those who plot murder, who shut their eyes to all enticement to do wrong. These are the ones who will dwell on high. The rocks of the mountains will be their fortress of safety. Food will be supplied to them and they will have water in abundance… The Lord will be our Mighty One. He will be like a wide river of protection that no enemy can cross. For the Lord is our judge, and lawgiver, and our king. He will care for us and save us. Isaiah 33:5,10–16,21,22

    Application:

This chapter of Isaiah has such beautiful descriptions of the Lord. The key to knowing all these wonderful attributes of God is to fear Him. We must show proper respect and awe, but we must
