Will the Real Antichrist Please Stand Up! - Bill Cicansky
Chapter 1
The Debut of the Antichrist
Though the rapture is a signless event, there are some providential events that clearly point to the Lord’s soon return, and preceding the debut of the Antichrist will take place.
Let’s consider a number of events that the Lord Jesus prophesied in Matthew chapter 24 that will precede his coming again.
Pretenders
For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. (v. 5)
Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ. Or there’ believe it not. (v. 23)
For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great sign and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. (v. 24)
Jesus said there would be pretenders who will say they are the Christ, and throughout history, there have been those who claim they were the Messiah, only to be found out as imposters.
Simon Magus, during the first century, said he was the Christ.
In modern days, David Koresh claimed to be the Christ and then was killed by the FBI in 1993.
Louis Farrakhan said, I am the messiah.
Jim Jones, a charismatic cult leader, blinded his followers and proclaimed that he was the Christ. They followed him in a suicide pact, and 909 people died.
In these last days, there will be a sudden messianic movement where many will declare they are the Christ.
Provocations
And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. (Matthew 24:6–7)
Throughout history, leaders have been provoked by some rivalry by another leader of a nation, and as a result, some 12,000 wars have occurred since 2500 BC.
Hitler was incensed of the Versailles treaty that caused the surrender of German colonies. As a result, World War II occurred and over sixty million people were killed.
Today, we are seeing where Iran wants its footprint in Lebanon and Syria and is aiding and abetting them to attack Israel.
There is also the threat of war with North Korea.
Pitiful Famines
And there shall be famines. (Matthew 24:7)
In 1994, in North Korea, there was mass starvation where it was estimated that two million people died.
Today there are over thirty million people who are undergoing hunger in Nigeria, South Sudan, and Somalia because of insufficient rainfall hindering crops from growing.
Pestilences
And pestilences. (Matthew 24:7)
Since 1918, the world has dealt with various pestilences such as the Spanish pandemic, AIDS, SARS, Ebola, and now COVID-19. Millions have lost their lives. Jesus said this would occur in the last days.
Performance of Earthquakes
And earthquakes. (Matthew 24:7)
From 2017 to 2019, over 40,400 earthquakes occurred, some with great intensity. In 2020, 3,272 earthquakes have shaken various areas.
Persecution of Christians
Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. (Matthew 24:9–10)
According to a Fox News report in April 2017, nearly 215 million Christians faced persecution. Two years later,
