Every time I find the key to success, someone changes the lock. I know, it’s an old and bad joke, but I wanted to break the ice and put you in a more relaxed state of mind.

But in all seriousness, have you ever felt that success is something that eludes you or something that escapes your grasp for some reason? Have you ever asked yourself, Why can’t I be successful in life? The answer is you can. Believe it or not, God intended everyone to have not just a good life but also a great life. He is the author and giver of life; therefore, his plan for you is to have a life of wealth, a life of prosperity, and a life of success.

I truly believe in my heart that God does not want anyone to live an unsuccessful life. The Bible, which is the unfailing word of God, supports the idea of being rich and successful (2 Cor. 8:9). God doesn’t want anyone to be struggling financially, nor does he want you to be living in poverty. So you might be asking yourself right now, If I’m living my life the way God commands me to, then why am I still living a life of poverty? Why am I still struggling to make ends meet?

Success isn’t something that you find on a shelf with big, bold letters so you can buy it at your local grocery store, nor is it something that is found in nature or anywhere else. Success is something that you create out of nothing through hard work and dedication in order to have a better life.

So what is success? There are many definitions as to what success is, but my favorite definition is the one found on the dictionary app on my iPhone that states, As the achievement of something desired, planned or attempted. No matter what it is that you’re trying to accomplish, no matter how big or how small, if you reach your goal, you’re automatically counted as a successful person. It could be learning a new language or rock climbing or something as simple as frying an egg. To paraphrase Walt Disney, If you can dream it, you can achieve it.

Being successful in life will open doors you never knew existed. It is going to change your life for the better. Achieving success is attainable, but it’s not an easy task. Anyone who is already at that level will tell you that there are going to be a lot of sacrifices you’re going to have to make along the way.

Don’t forget that you’re not alone in your endeavor. I absolutely love what God tells Joshua when he, Joshua, became the newly appointed leader of the people of Israel in the book of Joshua 1:9: Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

When you finally decide that enough is enough and you’ve chosen to follow the path to success, just remember, don’t be discouraged nor be afraid to follow that path because you got this!

Today we equate success with being wealthy, being someone with lots of money, and having many possessions, and while that may be true, many people find it an impossible goal to reach. Success has become such a dirty word in today’s culture because we see others less fortunate struggling to make ends meet. We often see others not enjoying the same life as you when you do reach a life at the top of the mountain, but you should never apologize for what you have accomplished, because only you know how hard you’ve had to work
