About this ebook

Our Creator is a God of choice. Therefore, destruction is a choice. Honor is also a choice. A proud heart leads to destruction, but a humble heart brings honor. The absence of humility is pride which will bring certain consequences as a result of not humbling ourselves before God and men.

Because of a man's haughty heart, he fails to see and reason clearly. His excessive arrogance results in poor decision-making, whereas a man with a humble heart will seek counsel and exercise wisdom in his decision-making.

It was pride that brought Lucifer and a third of the angels to rebel and be cast out of heaven. Because of his pride, Lucifer will suffer eternal destruction.

Humility is the true spirit of Jesus Christ. Because of His humility, God exalted Him above all creatures.

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. (1 Peter 5:6)

    Introduction

In the early spring of 2020, at the height of the coronavirus pandemic, Guy Morinville finally found the opportunity to put together this devotional.

Why did he decide to create a devotional in a pandemic?

He felt alone and the need to share the Living Word and Hope with those living through these difficult times.

This devotional was created to inspire in a time of despair, provide hope in a time of fear, and show compassion in a time of discord.

Guy Morinville, being a COVID-19 survivor himself, wishes this note brings reassurance to your minds:

Trials and tribulations come our way to test our faith and shape our character. If we remain steadfast and faithful, we shall be overcomers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

    A Sense of Hope

    Faith and Courage

For You are my hope, O Lord God; You are my trust from my youth.

    —Psalm 71:5 NKJV

    Hope

Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. (1 Timothy 6:17)

A feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen

    A feeling of trust

Is an optimistic state of mind that is based on an expectation of positive outcomes with respect to events and circumstances in one’s life or the world at large

Expect with confidence and to cherish a desire with anticipation

Is the confident expectation of what God has promised and its strength is in His faithfulness

    Why We Should Have Hope

The hope of the righteous will be gladness, but the expectation of the wicked will perish. (Proverbs 10:28)

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. (Hebrews 10:23)

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)

God has plans to give us a future and a hope for better things.

    A Christian’s Hope

Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 1:13)

Knowing that we are safe in the loving embrace of God, never to fail or fall away.

God will be with us while we’re going through turbulent times.

Hope for eternal things that will never decay or waste away.

Hope in eternal life, meaning we can attack today with a renewed vigor and strength.

    Hope for Healing

For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds, says the Lord. (Jeremiah 30:17)

He helps us to renew our strength.

He heals our wounds physically, mentally, and spiritually.

He tells us to not let our heart be troubled.

He will meet our needs, both in sickness and in healing.

    Hope in Trials

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 5:1)

We can rejoice and be steadfast in times of trials and tribulations.

We stand boldly because we know that God is with us.

Jesus is the source of our strength.

Our hearts are strengthened during the challenges we face.

Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer. (Romans 12:12)

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all. (Psalm 34:19)

We can face all things boldly knowing that we will come out just fine.

    Suffering, Perseverance, and Hope

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. (Romans 5:1–4)

There are going to be times when we have suffering and pain in our lives.

Suffering helps produce in us perseverance and character, which will lead to hope.

For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. (Romans 15:4)

We should look to Him, not only to give us strength, but to give us patience and the ability to endure.

Better things are yet to come!

    Grieving with Hope

But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who
