Bautismo
¿Por qué el bautismo en el nombre de Jesucristo?
La remisión de pecados essóloen el nombre de Jesús:
"Arrepentíos, y bautícese cada uno de vosotros en elnombre de Jesucristo para perdón de los pecados" (Hechos 2:38, RVR 1960).
La salvación essóloen el nombre de Jesús:
Y dará a luz un hijo, y llamarás su nombre Jesús, porque él salvará a su pueblo de sus pecados
(Mateo 1:21, RVR1960).
Y en ningún otro hay salvación; porque no hay otro nombre bajo el cielo, dado los hombres, en que podamos ser salvos.
Hechos 4:12 (RVR1960).
El bautismo es un tema que provoca controversia y confusión debido a la falta de conocimiento o falta de comprensión. Al hablar de la doctrina, el bautismo es una pregunta frecuente; un tema que se discute y trata en profundidad.
Los temas decisivos son: ¿Qué enseña la escritura? ¿Y cómo obedecieron los apóstoles la gran comisión de Jesús? Los apóstoles eran creyentes y embajadores de Cristo, habiendo sido escogidos y enseñados directamente por Cristo. Seguramente no tenían mal entendidos ni confusiones en cuanto a lo que se les enseñaba. La escritura sola, no la creencia o tradición de la iglesia, es nuestra guía autorizada para claridad y comprensión.
Los Apóstoles
Para entender la autoridad de la enseñanza de los apóstoles, necesitamos entender quiénes fueron los apóstoles, el propósito y el tipo de su trabajo, y cómo se convirtieron en apóstoles.
Los doce discípulos que Jesús escogió fueron hombres comunes, elegidos entre sus primeros seguidores. No tenían ningún talento natural, ni tenían aptitudes intelectuales; sin educación, sin cualificación, sin talentos. No eran religiosos ni refinados. Abarcaban el espectro político; un fanático (un fanático, intransigente de opiniones religiosas o políticas). Un radical político (comprometido en la revolución política). Un recaudador de impuestos (en tiempos bíblicos, un recaudador de impuestos era considerado un traidor o un ladrón). Cuatro de los discípulos eran pescadores, y el resto de ellos, si no también pescadores, probablemente trabajaban en un ambiente agrícola; la mayor parte de Galilea era un campo agrícola, de donde los discípulos básicamente eran originarios. Los demás probablemente habrían sido comerciantes de algún tipo, artesanos o agricultores de algún tipo. No tenían absolutamente nada en común, quizás aparte de aquellos que eran pescadores. No eran los más inteligente, los más nobles ni los mejores. Aunque se distinguían por una cosa, siendo hombres comunes. Eran un grupo extraño, y no podían haber sido llevados a vivir juntos, trabajar y ministrar juntos, aparte de que Dios lo haría para su propio propósito.
Antes que Jesús hiciera su selección, él pasó una noche de oración con el Padre, para una decisión tan relevante. Entonces los doce discípulos fueron personalmente seleccionados por Jesús, ellos no se ofrecieron como voluntarios para el trabajo. Aunque Jesús los conocía completamente, como sólo su Creador podía conocerlos; con defectos, luchas e incluso dudas. Sin embargo, con faltas y defectos de carácter, fueron elegidos para llevar a cabo un ministerio después que Jesús ascendió al cielo. Fueron elegidos para representar a Jesús—el Salvador y Redentor del mundo. Ellos fueron escogidos para predicar y llevar el evangelio por todo el mundo.
Eran egoístas, e incluso discutieron entre sí, en cuanto a quién sería el mayor. Santiago y Juan incluso intentaron persuadir a Jesús para que les otorgara las dos posiciones más prominentes en su reino.
Entonces, como la mayoría de la gente, sobreestimaron su fidelidad y lealtad a Cristo. Jesús les dijo:
Todos os escandalizaréis de mi esta noche.
Antes que el gallo haya cantado dos veces, me negarás tres veces.
Pedro le dijo, ‘Si me sea fuera necesario morir contigo, no te negaré!’" Todos dijeron lo mismo. Luego, en cuestión de horas, todos abandonaron a Jesús para sufrir a solas. Pedro incluso maldijo y juró que nunca había conocido a Jesús.
Más asombroso fue su falta de comprensión espiritual durante su tiempo de entrenamiento.
Sus pensamientos y comportamiento eran carnales.
Sus mentes fueron gobernadas por su naturaleza carnal. Jesús los reprendió por su incredulidad y dureza de corazón. Su actitud y comportamiento durante ese tiempo, aunque viviendo en la presencia de Jesús mientras estaba en la tierra, viendo personalmente su ejemplo y escuchándolo enseñar, no era suficiente para transformar su pensamiento y su comportamiento de carnal a espiritual.
Los discípulos estaban allí durante los años de la vida de Jesús mientras estaba entre ellos, estaban allí para su ministerio, y para su muerte. Aunque huyeron cuando sucedió, supieron que sucedió, y estaban allí para verlo resucitado de entre los muertos. Fueron los primeros testigos. Ellos fueron los primeros predicadores del evangelio, que predicaron el evangelio de salvación por gracia a través de la fe en Jesucristo, basado en su obra en la cruz y su
