Tales of Trauma to Triumph - Kat Copeland
Dear Fighter
I know that your life has been a hard road,
And you’ve had to carry a burdensome load.
You feel overwhelmed and discouraged at times,
As you try and survive through life’s darkest crimes.
Your opponents the devil, and he doesn’t fight fair!
To conquer this fight takes persistence and prayer!
You only fail when you decide to be beat,
You must resolve that the devil you’ll cheat!
Do not let mistakes leave you guilt and regret,
We have a Savior whose love paid for our debt.
We’re all human who’ve been gifted freewill,
God knew what that meant and created us still.
I’ve been where you are, and I know how you feel,
I was lost in this pain till on my knees I would kneel.
The poor choices you make don’t define who you are,
It’s absorbing the lesson that will take you far!
When you have achieved, a peace with your past,
To remember it happened is what makes it last.
Don’t start to judge the same struggle you’ve had,
The burdens some carry, do not make them bad.
Every life lesson, comes from another’s mistake,
There is knowledge in the wrong choices we make!
The lessons we learn from others is ample,
You shouldn’t feel shame to be the example.
For through all your sorrow a teacher emerged,
And in teaching another, your past will be purged.
Keep fighting my friend, there’s a champion within,
You must only press forward, in order to win!
Dear Babysitter
Did you know that today I still cannot swim?
Because of those times we swung from that limb.
You tied up a rope to a tree at the creek,
When I was too young to barely but speak.
You would swing me across the water below,
Holding me under while across it we’d go.
You locked me in darkness to enjoy how I’d bawl,
For I was too short to reach the switch on the wall.
You put the baby in the dryer when he was only two,
You got such pleasure from these things that you would do.
The names you would call us were the least of our concern,
It was the danger in your actions like the house you tried to burn.
I hope time has healed this anger that you have fought inside.
And today there aren’t still people from you who try and hide.
Dear Tom
I hoped and I prayed that I was your one,
And after it ended you were then done.
I want you to know what this experience did,
I’ve carried it with me, and of it I never could rid.
I fear for my children in the most anxious way,
I’ve sheltered and kept them too closely I’d say.
For what they don’t know is I see you each day,
I fear every person and therefore, keep them at bay.
