Stories of Glory: - Jackie Towns

    Day One

God created the heavens and the earth and everything that is in them (Gen 1:1–2:3).

God created humankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them, male and female he created them. (Gen 1:27 NET)

The Creator God desires a personal relationship with you. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, and all of your days were ordained before one of them came to be (Ps 139:13–16 NIV). Think of your significance before the Creator God and journal the words that flow from your heart.

    Day Two

Have you ever been deceived? Why? Let us reflect on the Fall of Humankind (Gen 3:1–24).

When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. (Gen 3:6 NASB)

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. (1 John 2:16 NASB)

Of these three what is your greatest weakness? What can the devil use to cause you to fall into sin? And how can you guard against his manipulative schemes? Know thyself and put on the full armor of God (Eph 6:10–18). Journal your defense.

    Day Three

Have you ever allowed your anger to control your thoughts and, ultimately, your behavior? Let us reflect on the story of Cain and Abel (Gen 4:1–16).

Why are you so angry? the LORD asked Cain. Why do you look so dejected? You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master. (Gen 4:6–7 NLT)

Let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants…the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (Gal 5:16–23 NLT).

Prayerfully consider how you will remain walking in the Spirit when you are tempted to allow sin to have control over you. Journal strategies to keep your heart in tune with the Spirit.

    Day Four

How important is it to you that you keep your promises, even when it is hard? Let us reflect on the flood and God’s everlasting promise to us (Gen 6:1–9:17).

And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds… Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth. (Gen 9:12–16 NIV)

If you make a promise to God, don’t be slow to keep it. God is not happy with fools, so give God what you promised. It is better not to promise anything than to promise something and not do it. Don’t let your words cause you to sin, and don’t say to the priest at the Temple, "I didn’t mean what I promised. (Eccl 5:4–6 NCV)

Meditate on the security and assurance you have in the promises God made to us. Now consider the promises you make to God and others. Does your fulfillment of promises magnify the Christ within? Journal your conviction.

    Day Five

Have you ever struggled with pride
