About this ebook

When the righteous cry, the Lord hears, and their prayers avail much.

The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. (James 5:16)

When we want our prayers to avail much before God, we have got to let the powers of the precious blood of the Lamb wash away our sins. Sometimes in our walk with God, we just might have a fall, but that is not going to cause God to cast us down. David said in Psalm 37:24, "Though he fall he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholds him with his hand." David said that because one day he had a fall, and he tried to hide or cover his sins. But he learned that it was not going to work. So David concluded, "If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me" (Psalm 66:18).

On September 25, 1975, I came to Jesus. I was wearied, wounded, and sad, feeling that at any given time, I was going to lose my mind. I got down on my knees in the bathroom in front of the commode, and with a godly sorrow in my heart, I pleaded for forgiveness for my sins. The powers of the precious blood of the Lamb covered my multitude of sins. God told me, "Get up. Go preach my word. Let the world know when the righteous cry, the Lord hears, and their prayers avail much."

    Introduction

The righteous cry is going to be the prayer or prayers that God is going to hear. A righteous cry is going to come from someone who is worshipping God. Jesus told the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well, But the hour comes and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him (John 4:23). Continuing in sin and praying unto God is what the Bible calls vain repetitions, and that is what the Bible tells us not to do. The Bible said, But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions as the heathens do: for they think that they should be heard for their much speaking (Matthew 6:7).

No one should want to pray prayers that God is not going to hear; most definitely, I do not. Therefore, I am going to worship him in the spirit and in the truth. The only way that I can do that is to receive since I do have the baptism of the Holy Ghost and am a true worshipper of his. The Word of God said in John 9:31, Now we know that God hears not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.

Sinners are the people who God really, really wants to hear from. He wants to hear from them in a spirit of repentance and godly sorrow. Godly sorrow is what brings forth true repentance. It is written in 2 Corinthians 7:10, For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of; but the sorrow of the world worketh death. I said that the sinners are the people that God really wants to hear from because it is said in John 3:16, For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him, should not perish, but have everlasting life. The prophet Isaiah said, But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed.

God sacrificed and gave his only begotten Son, who laid down his life that we could have everlasting life, and this is what God said in his Word that he wants us to sacrifice unto him:

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. (Psalm 51:17)

The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart: and saves such as be of a contrite spirit. (Psalm 34:18)

A contrite heart is a heart of repentance. A repentant heart will cause people to enter into the righteousness of God. Then they may cry unto him, and their prayers will avail much.

The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivers them out of all their troubles. (Psalm 34:17)

    Chapter 1

Lord, Teach Us How to Pray

There is no one any greater than the Lord Jesus Christ who can teach us how to pray. Jesus is not concerned about our grammar, verbs, nouns, adjectives, and subject-verb agreement. When I mispronounce words, he still knows exactly what I am talking about or trying to say, and even when I can’t say a word verbally, he knows what my heart is talking about. God told Samuel, For the Lord sees not as man sees, for man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart (1 Samuel 16:7). Sometimes in our praying, we are speechless, but there is a cry in our hearts. That is why David said, Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer (Psalm 19:14). Mainly God listens to your heart more so than what comes out of your mouth. The Bible said, But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart: and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witnesses, blasphemies. These are the things that defile a man: but to eat with unwashed hands defiles not a man (Matthew 15:18–20).

There is absolutely no harm in asking Jesus to teach us how to pray. Jesus’s disciples had been around John and his disciples, and they had seen or heard John teaching his disciples how to pray. There were times when they were in the midst of Jesus praying, so they asked him to teach them how to pray: And it came to pass, that as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord teach us how to pray, as John also taught his disciples (Luke 11:1). Immediately Jesus began to teach them how to pray. And he said unto them, When you pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven. First of all, we have got to know and acknowledge that he reigns, that he is upon his throne, and that his throne is in heaven. He said, Hallowed be thy name, letting us know that his name is holy and sacred. Thy kingdom come means his kingdom is supposed to be within us. The Bible said, And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation (rules and laws). Neither shall they say, Lo, here! Or lo there! For behold! The kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17:20–21). Thy will be done means we are to let the will of God be done in our lives, for we are no longer our own; we have been bought with a price. The Bible said, What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own. For ye are bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s (1 Corinthians 6:19–20). Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

Jesus was talking to his disciples one day to see if they really knew who he was, and Peter was the one who spoke out: And Simon Peter answered and said, thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God (Matthew 16:16). Jesus was teaching his disciples how to pray and asking that his will be done in heaven and in earth. Jesus gave Peter something, and he will give it to you and I as well. He gave him the keys to the kingdom that he might bind and loose. The Bible said, And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven (Matthew 16:19).

When our prayer lives are in a rightful place with God, we are going to pray as he spoke through the apostle Paul in 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Pray without ceasing, and Philippians 4:6, Be careful for nothing: but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God. We are going to pray about everything; no matter how great or small it may seem to be, we will bring it before God in prayer. As Paul said, be careful or anxious for nothing. Jesus said in Matthew 18:11, For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. We are to have that same type of mind. Paul said, Let this same mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:5).

Jesus talked about saving those who were lost and what to do when a sheep goes astray or gets lost from the fold. The Bible said, How think ye if a man has a hundred sheep, and if one of them be gone astray, doth he not leaves the ninety and nine, and goes into the mountains, and seek that which is gone astray? And if so be that he finds it, verily I say unto you, he rejoices more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which were not astray. Even so, it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish (Matthew 18:12–14). As Jesus spoke about leaving the ninety-nine sheep and searching for the one that was lost, he was referring to the lost souls or souls that have gone astray. We are to leave to go and try to restore that brother or sister.

Moreover, if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone; if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word maybe established. And if he shall reject to hear them, tell it to the church, let him be unto thee as a heathen man and a publican. By doing these things, this is the way that we are going to bind and loose on earth and in heaven. Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. There is power in two coming together praying, touching and agreeing on anything, Jesus said that it shall be done. Again, I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. (Matthew 18:15–20)

Luke 11:3 said, Give us day by day our daily bread. Our daily bread is divided into two different categories: there is the natural, and there is the spiritual. God talked to the children of Israel when they began to murmur and complain that they had no bread or food to eat. They spoke about God providing bread and meat. When God’s people began to complain, he stretched forth his hand and moved.

And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. And the children of Israel said unto them, would to God that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full: for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger. Then said the Lord unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they walk in my law, or no.

God wanted to give the children
