    About the Author

For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.

    —Acts 22:15

    Preface

In January of 2022, I received a call through our church office. The call was from somewhere in Alabama, and a man was inquiring about a particular preacher that he had heard through our church's Facebook ministry. He asked me, Do you know John Bradley? Of course I inquired as to why he wanted to know. That's when he began to tell me his story of conversion and salvation while stationed at Camp Casey in Korea. He shared how that John Bradley had boldly ministered to him at a very low point in his life and shared the message of salvation through Jesus Christ. That moment in the barracks of Camp Casey changed his life forever. Shawn McClow was that young man who now is in ministry himself as a preacher and proclaimer of the Word. Shawn had somehow seen the preaching of John Bradley on our page and wanted so much to reunite with the man who had impacted his life so many years ago. Of course I passed this info on to Elder John Bradley.

This bold, impactful, and unashamed type of ministry has been the character of John Bradley ever since I met him and Kimberly, his wife. He is uncompromising in his life and his love for God. I've seen both of them at the extremes of what life can bring, yet they stayed true to their love for God.

The book you are now reading will be full of testimony after testimony similar to the one I shared from Shawn. They will show us how God can use us time and time again no matter the circumstance as we yield our hearts to His purpose in our lives. John Bradley is a continuing story of how God can change and use life for His glory.

I pray you will be blessed by his story.

    Chapter 1

    Fort Lewis, 1994–1999 (Salvation)

    God Encounter

In July 1994, my family and I just arrived from Friedberg, Germany, after two and a half years, about to start our journey at Fort Lewis, Washington. After getting settled in and reporting to my unit as mechanic things continued as they were before we left Germany, I was drinking and partying with my friends, and my wife Kim didn't like it at all. In April of 1995, my wife said to herself, We need to find a church. She looked up several churches in the phone book and called, leaving messages to call her back. Only one church pastor returned the call personally and gave my wife directions to the church. The pastor was James T. Watson Sr., and the church was Greater Joy COGIC in Tacoma, Washington. After attending Greater Joy for a few weeks and hearing the Word of God preached by Pastor James T. Watson Sr., I felt the Lord pulling on my heart each time, and I wanted to walk up for prayer and receive Christ. But I was afraid everyone would look at me funny. I told this to my wife, and she said, The next time the pastor announces the invitation to receive Christ, just go. Don't worry about who is looking, just go. The next Sunday came, and Pastor Watson preached a powerful message, and again I felt the Lord pulling at me. My heart began to beat hard and fast, and I couldn't resist the power of His presence upon me. When Pastor Watson asked if anyone wanted to receive Christ as their personal Savior, before I knew it, I was the first one in line at the altar. My heart began to beat harder, and I felt unashamed and forgot about everyone in the church. It was the power of God. Pastor Watson then laid his hands upon my head and began to pray the prayer of salvation and I repeated every word. I believed with my heart and confessed with my mouth that Jesus is Lord over my life, and I began to cry like I have never cried before. God was breaking me down and began to lift me out of darkness and bring me into His marvelous light. After church was over, I knew I was a changed man and that my life would never be the same again.

    Boldness to Witness

For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels. (Luke 9:26)

In the next weeks to come, I was hungry for the more of God and His Word. I attended every Bible study, Sunday school service, and each choir rehearsal. I made up in my mind that I wanted more of God. Once I began to learn more about Jesus, the more I wanted to tell everyone about Him. At first, I was afraid and hesitant to tell someone about Jesus; but as I began reading the Bible, I saw a scripture that spoke directly to me concerning this, Luke 9:26, For whosoever shall be ashamed of Me and of My words, of him shall the Son of Man be ashamed, when He shall come in His own glory, and in His Father's, and of the holy angels. This scripture opened my spiritual eyes and awakened in me a boldness to witness for God and to never be ashamed of the name of Jesus Christ. As the Lord began to present opportunities to witness for Him, I began to desire to know more of His word. For I knew in my heart that the more I could know the Bible, the more I could expound on the Word of God to share with others. In Romans 1:16, Paul says, For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ, for it is the power and ability, or dunamis of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

    Holy Ghost Power, Activate

And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (Acts 2:4)

It was a Sunday in May of 1995 in Tacoma, Washington, a day that I felt in my heart that God was going to do something special. My family and I got ready for church as usual. My wife Kim made breakfast, got the kids fed, and dressed for church, as well as herself. As we drove to church, I still had this heaviness of God's presence over me all the way to the house of God. As service began, there was a sense of the spirit of God that I couldn't explain. My wife and I were in the choir, and we normally would sing two selections before Pastor Watson came up to preach the Word of God. But today, I was to selected to lead one of the songs, and I was nervous. As the song began and I started singing, I felt the same presence as I did while I was in the van on the way to church, and again I knew something new and powerful was happening to me. As the song came to a close, I sang like I never sang before, and the church started praising God even more. As the choir finished the song and sat down, Pastor Watson stood up and preached a mighty Word from the Lord. Again, this feeling would not go away. As Pastor Watson finished speaking, he opened up the altar for those who wanted prayer, healing, salvation, and to those who wanted to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. When he said Holy Ghost, I knew that was for me.

A week before service, Missionary Dotha Evans spoke to my spirit about receiving the Holy Ghost with evidence of speaking in tongues. She said, Just believe and have faith. For the entire month, everyone was speaking on a subject concerning the Holy Ghost. I knew it was my time. Once Pastor Watson opened the altar for prayer, I came up to the altar
