I would like to dedicate this book to my three sons, Stephen, Nick and Robbie Mercantel. They are the inspiration behind everything I do. I believe that it is the three of them that have made me the person I am today and I’m grateful to each of them for what they have brought to my life and to the lives of so many others. I truly believe that each of them are on their own journey to help make the universe more beautiful for others. I also would like to include my mother and father, Bob and Peggy Snoek. They were both my wind when they gave me wings. They have allowed me to become exactly who I was meant to be, and I don’t imagine that was always easy. I miss you Dad and love you both.

Introduction

It’s a Saturday morning, and you are packing your car to head to your favorite college to see this week’s battle between your school and their rivals in their annual football game. Tensions are always a little higher with this one game of the season. This game, above all others, you feel you simply must win. So off you go with your car packed full of the day’s supplies needed in tow. Only a short hour-and-a-half drive before you are there with old classmates and new friends. Anticipation building the entire way there.

Once there, you hang out with all those that you knew back in your days at school. Over the years, you have even made many more friends with other fans. It’s a day that everyone has waited for, for what seems like forever. We all love the energy around football games. The highs and lows that come with the package of loving your team.

Once we are seated in the bleachers, we watch as the teams loosen up on the field below. All men suited up in their colors of honor. Just a few more minutes and it would be time. Time for the kickoff and time for the event that we have all been anxiously waiting for. We talk to those around us to kill what’s left of the remaining time. Then just like that, we hear a powerful voice over the intercom that begins the game.

When looking at your own life, there are obstacles and challenges that we all face regularly. This makes us completely normal. The things I’d like to share with you today is a way to build your own personal army to fight the world and all the bad passes that it throws us.

Let’s talk about the football team we were discussing. The practice and discipline that goes into creating a winning team isn’t something that just happens overnight. It is something that takes commitment and hard work. Imagine if you had your own army in your life that felt a little like a football team. You, of course, being the quarterback in your own life. You are able to have that team around you at any point to help you take on situations that get in your way.

Being on a team doesn’t guarantee you will get along with every one of the other teams and their players, but to be on a winning team, it is essential that you respect each of the players and the job they are there to do. Your job is to make plays or live your life. Their jobs are to work together to protect you. You need every player and position to make
