CHAPTER 0
How did the first bit of matter, combined by electronic means, form into a larger piece of matter out of the vast nothing. Then grow from this bit into larger pieces of matter and assemble into blood, arteries and veins, all from this nothingness space; then into a nervous system, a bug or small animal that was able to think! figure! and move where it wished! dream! all basically from the vast NOTHING. And what orchestrated this very complex condition? It had to be orchestrated, every thinking person knows. Think about what I say is the most important thing in your life. You have the ability to think! figure! dream! imagine! So do the most important things in your life. Guess why from nothing could the atom come, matter come, a nervous system, life that could reproduce all from nothing.
It is what one from the nothing came and said is the most important thing in our lives. This messenger came and said there is more to the thinking man than his present existence.
The Bible and The Urantia Book have little to say about it, as I’m sure you and I also do not, except that something so complex had to be orchestrated. And it was not by something equal to or less than it or us, but clearly by something much more than us. HE said we have not just a spirit but we have a soul that can go on if one so chooses.
I shall try to provide in the following pages a few thoughts and insights because the way we think and live are essential elements.
First let me say The Urantia Book is a guide that gives assurance to one’s life more than any other book. It is hard to read at first because it stretches the soul unmercifully. But after a while, not too soon, it becomes easy to read and a joy. And it need not be read cover to cover but skip reading is very ok. It is a book not for the mind but for the soul.
The following is a story of common people doing adventuresome things that only those with a security within themselves, the available time and a willingness can and will do, and of their work, fun, loves, joy as the one from nothing intended.and as well as The Urantia Book.
I have used some unusual words you may like to have and enjoy.
It has been found that couples who hold hands never separate like magnets. So having similar hand heights is very desirable tho it is not essential. Similar spiritual beliefs are essential as are similar interests, either initially or developed: hobbies, work, and family.
So now for that that follows.
CHAPTER 1
The Office of Counter Operations, OCO, was shown as part of the US Treasury Department although it was not. It was in four buildings all within an entire block having streets along all four sides. In the center was a rectangular open area that accommodated a football size grass field with trees and fountains of clean, pure, OCOl water, some for wading and playing which the children of members often did. The director of The Aggressive Sovereigns Monitor, ASM, the subject of another book, and of OCO reported directly to the President of the United States. OCO assignments were to find, stop, and to maybe eliminate those who have caused the greatest of harm or who have the interest and potential to do so; who were fortressified, and who had successfully side-stepped the law. Then from in-office studies OCO would take action.
It was a dark, dismal, gloomy and cold night. And drizzling rain made the road shine from the headlights of approaching cars. But Dave was a careful driver in his blackish-gray company car. Soon he saw the white and black sign of The Crabby Clam Restaurant and Bar on his side of the road. It was located in a neighborhood of red brick homes on both sides of it and across the street. The CCR was a single story, also red brick building three lots wide with another two lots wide parking area. He was not tired but worn, weary from the hours of work he had put in at the office today. Folder after folder of problem and potentially problematic people had been studied, some discussed with the director if more investigative work was needed and be assigned to a OCO agent to personally go and make a further, closer examination.
He pulled into the fairly full parking lot near the front door of the restaurant and was greeted by Jerry, the young lot boy who knew David would park his own car as was his habit for no apparent reason except maybe to know where things were. He smiled at David and pointed to a near-by parking space reserved for best customers. Then by his door he held an open, wide green and white golf umbrella.
‘Hi Jerry. What I need is an Old Fashioned to get me down to earth. I won’t be staying long.’ His day had included an exercising workout he was required to do almost every day and his drop and shoot practice which he knew his life may depend.
He entered the massive dark, polished mahogany front door, walked up three short, wide stairs into the foyer and was greeted by Carl, the formally dressed Maitre D, tall and stiff who looked like a well-oiled British butler. He took David’s overcoat and handed it to a very pretty, twenty two year old coat room girl in an exotic white dress that in front came about three inches above her knees but in back had tails about four inches below her knees. The husband and wife owners of CCR bought various costumes for many of the employees. ‘I have a table up front by the dance floor or toward the back on this side.’ David was a good customer coming once, twice and sometimes more a week. It was a suit and tie restaurant. Once he came without a suit coat and because he was a good customer he was given an owners light tan sports coat to wear.
‘I’d like to be further back, please. I plan to leave early.’
‘Yes sir, Mr. Salem, this way,’ and led him thru an archway into a large dining area. The room was dimly lit with lush maroon window drapes, crystal chandeliers over each dining table, a deep reddish-maroon rug, and the room filled with round dining tables maybe 80% occupied. Each table had a white linen table cloth and in the center was an electric candle plus an overhead chandelier light The table’s arm chairs were also maroon with soft contoured back and seat cushions. . Toward the front of the room there was a dance floor and an adjacent Hammond organ. As he sat Carl held his hand up to signal a waitress. They were beautiful women in their late twenties and thirties, costumed in semi-diaphanous blouses over lacy bras, semi-diaphanous knee length skirts, black stockings and black patent leather high heeled shoes. They took orders and served but did not carry trays.
‘Well, nice to see you Mr. Salem’ Maud said standing across his table. ‘Would you like an Old Fashioned, no cherry?’
‘Yes, thank you’ said David. Also the 12 ounce steak cooked medium rare in mushrooms, no burn marks please, sweet potatoes, hard crust rolls with strawberry jam, the pineapple and cottage cheese salad and coffee.’
‘I’ll give you some time with your drink before I serve your dinner’ she said with a nice smile.
‘Thanks Hon’ he said. ‘You seem to know me pretty well.’
‘I should’ she said. ‘You come here often enough’ she smiled, fluttered her eyes and walked away to the ordering table. In less than two minutes a white coat came holding a silver tray with the Old Fashioned for Maud. She took it and put it neatly on the table in front of David. The glass was frosty and the Old Fashioned strong, just how he liked it.
He made a slow survey of the room. He recognized a few of the customers, none by name, all well-dressed. He felt somewhat under-dressed in his dark brown somewhat wrinkled suit, goldish yellow shirt and dark orangey almost black tie. But he thought, no one should notice in this dim lighting. His eyes met the eyes of a woman half way across the room, a beautiful woman in her mid-twenties with chestnut hair and thin eyebrows that complemented a pleasant face. He had seen her here before. She smiled at him and made a little wave of her hand. He gave her a little wave back and turned back to his drink. Lovely woman, he thought, took a pull from the drink and felt happier. Soon he felt a light tap on his shoulder. He turned and there she stood, a tall, slender, lovely, sylph lady dressed in a red minidress that accentuated her body, and wearing dark blue high heeled shoes. Up close she certainly was a beautiful woman he thought. He got up and said ‘Hello!’
‘Hi’ she smiled. ‘May I join you?’
‘Well, I guess that would be alright’ he said and pulled out a chair facing the room a few chairs from him. She sat, putting a small blue hand bag on the table on the side away from him. He noticed her purse was the same blue color as her shoes. She looked wonderful. It reminded him of a statement on how to be successful. To be so one must have inherited wealth or be handsome or very attractive. She certainly was attractive.
‘Would you like a cocktail?’ he asked.
‘O, I have one at my table’ she said whimsically.
Maud saw the encounter and went quickly to the table. ‘Can I help, Mister Salem?’ she asked.
David said ‘This lady …’
‘Alice Williams’ she said.
‘This lady, Miss Williams, left a cocktail on her table. Would you please have it brought here? And I’d like another Old Fashioned.’ He held up his hand to signal Maud to wait. ‘Do you like Mar Chino cherries?’ he asked.
‘O yes’ she smiled a lovely smile.
‘And please, extra cherries in my drink’ he said.
Maud swung around, flaring her semi-demy-hemi translucent skirt with a hip movement and went toward the ordering desk. In about minute a white coat waiter brought two drinks to Maud who placed one in front of Alice, the other in front of David. Alice smiled and nodded to David as Maud left.
‘Well’ Alice said, ‘I was with friends and an odd number at the table.’ She sipped some of her cocktail. I’ve noticed you here before, by yourself, so I took a chance.’
‘I’m glad you did. I like company. I work for the Treasury, a desk job, often boring but I get to travel at times. It pays my bills.’
‘I’m an architect, not married’ Alice said. ‘My work is often demanding, trying to satisfy customers and to meet schedules. So to be frank I’m looking for a husband or a male partner to round off some of the edges so to speak. I’d like an occasional comfortable evening by a fire in the fireplace with coco and marshmallows in the arms of a good man. It’s what all women would want, I guess.
David said ‘It must be hard living alone. He’s playing my song. Do you like to dance?’
‘Yes, I do’ she said.
In heels she came up to just above his eye brows.
