Marriage Quarrel in Quarantine - Tina Martin

    MARRIAGE QUARREL IN QUARANTINE

    Prologue

Chad was a man on a mission: to get his wife back, or at least back to the point where they could hold a decent conversation. A year ago, his cousin Kenzo was on a similar quest with his wife Kira. Now it was his turn, apparently. He married Kira’s best friend, Tomika, six months after Kenzo and Kira got back together. They’d been married for a year and a half. He loved her – that was never a question, especially when he never thought he would marry. Chad didn’t think about marriage in any kind of positive light. Marriage to him was for men who were content with getting old and fat – not for the ones who still knew they had it like that. Then he met Tomika on St. Johns Island and while he knew he still had it like that he also knew she had something. Her vibes spoke to him. She was always happy – the kind of person people loved being around. And she was a good friend to Kira – always had Kira’s best interest at heart when it came down to her situation with Kenzo, so he knew right out the gate Tomika was a good woman. Now, he wanted to get that good woman back. But how could he do that when he had no idea what he’d done to set her off?

Chad glanced across the kitchen table at her. She hadn’t asked him to join her. He just sat down and basked in her presence. His eyes traced her lips. He longed to touch her like she was so far away when he was right here, eating and scrolling through her phone, pretending he wasn’t there. That was Tomika. She’d get an attitude quick, especially where he was concerned, but usually he knew what he did to evoke this kind of reaction.

This wasn’t one of those times.

Mika, I was hoping we could use this opportunity to discuss some things, he finally spoke up to say.

Good idea, Chad, she said with a cheery snarl. "I’ll go first. Just so you’re aware I’m officially filing for separation. So, there. There you have it. You can’t say I sprung this on you."

Chad dropped his fork. Okay, he knew they were a little ‘off’ lately. After all, she had asked him to leave, but separation? Whatever happened to working things out, riding out the bad times and persevering through the storm? She was ready to throw in the towel.

Keeping his cool, Chad responded, "This whole thing is a surprise, Tomika. The last few weeks of my life have been something unimaginable. I don’t want to live like this, Tomika. I still—to this day—don’t know why this is happening. You know I love you. You know
