The Super Six and the Lightning Wand - Anyssa Lin

    Prologue

    Jayden’s House

Come on!!! And The Trickster, your footsteps are wayyyy too loud!" The Poet hissed in the darkness. It was February 12, deep into the night. They all donned black robes that helped them blend into the caliginous night.

The Trickster whisper-yelled back, What do you mean? I’m wearing Dad’s Noiseless Shoes!

The Poet quietly groaned, and countered, "Well, they’re Dad’s size, so obviously, they’re not meant for you!"

The Trickster rolled his eyes. Then a few seconds later, his shoes made squeaking noises.

    Squeak! SQUEAK! SQUEAK!

The Poet had put a spell on all of the villains so that they could see in the dark. So, she slapped The Trickster hard. He was about to hit her back when Oceanic pulled them apart and whispered, Hey, guys… We’re here!

Everyone froze and looked up at Black Thunder’s house. The Poet then got serious, and asked Oceanic, "Are you sure that the Gymnastic Globe that we have isn’t the real one?"

Oceanic nodded confidently, and replied, I remembered that the ‘G’s on the genuine Gymnastic Globe were curly and that there was swirly, foggy, gray mist in the original Gymnastic Globe. The G’s in this Gymnastic Globe we have are in completely different-looking font, and there’s no mist around the letters.

When Oceanic had finished explaining, they had reached the front door of Black Thunder’s house. Cheetah examined the lock, and said, Hold on, I think Faith, Black Thunder’s mom, may have put a special plant spell on it. My dad taught me how to notice these things. Look, there is a tiny leaf-shaped emblem on the side of the doorknob, which means a spell is in effect. Then, when someone touches the doorknob, a plant will alert Faith’s family and we’ll get caught!

How are we supposed to go in then? The Poet groaned, and Cheetah shrugged.

The Poet thought for a second, then closed her eyes and murmured a low, quiet spell under her breath,

Before anyone could say anything, a large gust of wind picked them up and started to swirl around them, as if it were angry.

The wind closed in around the villains, making it hard for them to breathe, and just as everyone felt like they were going to suffocate, the wind let go of them, and The Sinister Six tumbled onto the floor of The Super Six Hideout.

The Poet looked up and gasped. The other villains looked up, and Oceanic asked, What’s wrong…

Her words slowly died away, as their eyes took in the scene.

Grace, Lilah, and Isabella were sleeping in their sleeping bags on one side of the room; and Jayden, Lucas, and Ethan were sleeping on the other side of the room.

The Poet turned to her friends, and asked frantically in a whispering voice with swinging arms, while not really directing the question at anyone, Why didn’t anyone tell me that they are having a sleepover tonight?!?!

Oceanic bit her lip, worrying that their mission may be ruined. She replied while pointing at a glass case in the middle of the room, I didn’t know either. But at least the Gymnastic Globe is right there in the middle of the hideout, and nobody is sleeping there.

The Poet sneaked up to the glass case that The Gymnastic Globe was being held in. However, when she touched the glass case, a mysterious force inside the glass bounced The Poet back a few feet, and she hit the wall with a loud thump!

    THUMP!

The Poet held a finger up to her lips and gestured for her friends to be quiet.

They watched as the superheroes stirred, hoping that they would not be woken up by that thump.

Lucas stirred awake, and sat up, rubbing his eyes. The Poet hurriedly and quietly gestured to her friends to put on their hoods. These hoods on their black robes were supposed to conceal them from everyone else.

Just as Lucas’ vision cleared, all of the villains slipped their hoods on and disappeared into the shadows.

Lucas looked around, confused. He squinted into the darkness, but the dark robes hid the villains in the shadows.

Lucas murmured to himself, What was that sound?

Then he shrugged and lay back down in his sleeping bag.

When Oceanic tried to go back to the Gymnastic Globe, The Poet blocked her way. Oceanic hissed towards her, Why can’t I go?

The Poet explained quietly, Wait… He might still be awake!

Oceanic stepped back into the shadows and stayed still for what seemed like forever.

A few more minutes later, they heard quiet breathing coming from the corner that Lucas was in.

Then, The Poet finally gestured to her friends, Let’s go now.

They sneaked out of the darkness and approached the glass case again.

This time, The Poet passed her hands over the case, and murmured another poem,

Instantly, the glass seemed to have melted away and the genuine Gymnastic Globe was in their hands.

The Poet carefully placed the fake Gymnastic Globe back into the case, and whispered another poem,

The glass fused back and covered the fake Gymnastic Globe again.

Oceanic pumped her right arm in the air, saying, YES!

The Poet and the other villains shushed her, in a whispering voice, SHHHH!!!

Oceanic covered her mouth and apologized, also in a whispering voice, Whoops, sorry! I overreacted.

Oceanic then raised her hands, summoning groundwater from the ground, making it swirl around them.

The murky, brown groundwater swirled angrily around them, and in a flash, The Sinister Six disappeared.

But in their hurry to leave, the dark, black, robes slipped off, leaving clues for the Super Six to sleuth out.

    Chapter 1

    The Four Clues

Iknew that I heard something in the middle of the night!" Lucas exclaimed. It was the morning after the heist the Sinister Six had pulled. The supers had an entire week of vacation, from February 13-February 21.

The superheroes were examining those black robes on the ground. Grace held up one of the robes and conjured a magnifying glass in her hand.

The others watched as she examined it, anxiously waiting for answers. Finally, after what seemed like forever, Grace sighed and told everyone, I can’t find a trace of where it came from, even with my magical magnifying glass. It’s supposed to show what everything is made of. The only things that I can gather from these robes are these two facts: 1. That the Sinister Six were wearing them, and 2. that they were created by some unknown magic.

Silence followed her words, but it was broken by Lilah, who asked Lucas, So you are sure that the villains were here last night?

Lucas nodded, confirming their suspicions, And Jayden, you are positive that your mom armed the front door with the Plant Alarm, right?

Jayden nodded, and said, Absolutely positive. If they had touched the doorknob, then Mom would’ve been alerted immediately. Either they used magic, or they teleported in.

Ethan suggested, So… there are only two ways they could’ve gotten in.

Jayden responded, I think they teleported.

Lilah, Grace, and Isabella looked at each other, and said in unison, We think they used magic.

At first, Ethan looked like he was about to argue, but in the end, he agreed, Yeah, you’re probably right…

Lucas and Jayden nodded in agreement, and Grace sighed, Ok, I think they used magic because that’s got to be the only way. The robes are magical too, so I’m guessing she made the robes with the poem too. And I’m talking about The Poet.

Everyone nodded. Grace folded the robes up and put them away in a small cabinet.

How about we get some breakfast first, then we can keep investigating? ‘Cause I’m SO HUNGRY! Jayden suggested.

    Grace yawned, and agreed, Sure.

They all followed Jayden up the narrow stairs, and Ethan knocked on the wall.

The wall opened to Jayden’s room and they entered his room.

The room was just like how they remembered it, with the cloud-shaped bed, and the white desk.

As they yawned and exited Jayden’s room, everyone heard arguing downstairs.

    Noooooo!!!! I WANT PANCAKES!!!!!

Jayden told his friends, I’m sure that’s Asher. He always wants pancakes.

No! We are having waffles and that’s final! An older, female, voice retorted, deciding for them.

Jayden rolled his eyes, and the six of them stomped down the stairs.

The smell of waffles was irresistible, and when Asher finally agreed to have waffles, the Nil family sat down at the dining table.

Grace, Lilah, Isabella, Ethan, and Lucas were preparing to leave with their sleepover materials when Faith invited them to eat with Jayden and his family, Why don’t you join us for breakfast before heading home?

Can we? Without hesitation, Grace, Lilah, Isabella, Ethan, and Lucas all took a seat at the dining table as well and everyone dug in.

    ***

About twenty minutes later, the table was cleared and Grace and Ethan left first.

Isabella waved goodbye to Jayden, Lilah, and Lucas, and headed out as well.

Lastly, Lilah and Lucas grabbed their things and tugged them out the door, and went home.

Jayden then told his parents Faith and John, Mom, Dad, I’m going to go to my room to do homework, k?

Faith raised an eyebrow, asking, Isn’t it February Break?

Jayden quickly lied, Yeah, it is, but Mr. Sandler said we have to review our History since we have a test after February Break.

    Alright. Faith slowly said.

    Jayden quickly raced up
