About this ebook

Lal Kitab was christened thus due to its red outer cover probably keeping in view
the auspiciousness of the colour in hindu mythology. This book deals with the
oceanic knowledge of occult, a science based on palmistry/phrenology and other
associated fields. Though it is a part and parcel of Vedic astrology, its contours
are different and has its own grammar. For Example, the house of ascendant
would always be No.1 irrespective of the position of the planets.

    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

We are indebted to Shri Harsh Kant Vashisth for his help and assistance provided in bringing out this book. We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Shri A.S. Sharma for guiding us to accuracy and update the knowledge about Urdu as a language along with certain facts related to the project in hand. This acknowledgment would be incomplete if we do not put our appreciation on record for the efforts made by Shri Vibhu Kant Goswami (Vastu Shastri), Shri Ribhu Kant Goswami (Astrologer), and Miss Nishtha Vashisth who provided timely administrative support in the completion of this work. We would also like to take this opportunity to convey our thanks to our wives Smt. Hem Goswami and Smt. Preeti Sharma who quietly and patiently bore all the inconvenience that our preoccupation with this work caused them.

We are thankful to Shri P.K. Vasudev who was indispensable for his valuable suggestions which have been incorporated in the book. Sh. Vasudev immensely helped us in checking the proof of the book. We would also like to express our thanks to Shri Saurabh Sagar, the publisher of the book and Shri Narinder Sagar proprietor Sagar Publications who extended total support and cooperation without which this work would nothave been possible.

This work could not have seen the light of the day, had Smt. Swatantra Sharma W/o late Shri Avtar Krishan Sharma had not provided the notes of the departed soul to us, which had immensely helped us in probing deeper into the subject and to prove the validity of the work. In fact, the entire work should have been dedicated to the departed soul.

    PREFACE TO BE READ

The study of the positions of celestial bodies and their consequent cosmic influence/effects on biotic and abiotic entities on Earth in general and human affairs in particular, may be defined as astrology.

A band of the celestial sphere which extends about 8° to either side of the ecliptic represents the path of the principal planets, the Moon, and the Sun. This band of seven celestial bodies which influence human affairs and personalities are divided into 12 equal parts called signs, each 30° wide, bearing the name of a constellation (a visual formation of stars perceived as a figure or design, especially one of 88 recognized groups named after characters from classical mythology and various common animals and objects) for which it was originally named but with which it no longer coincides owing to the precession of the equinoxes. Dragon’s head (Rahu) and Dragon’s Tail (Ketu) are shadow planets, but they have an astounding effect on the native.

We call names of days in a week in our day-to-day life but most of us perhaps are not aware that this seven-day system is based on the ancient astrological perceptions that the seven celestial bodies revolving around stationary Earth influence what happens on it, and that each of these celestial bodies control the first hour of the day named after it. This system, according to western thought, was brought into Hellenistic Egypt from Mesopotamia, where astrology had been practiced from times immemorial and where seven had always been a propitious number. In A.D. 321, Emperor Constantine the Great, grafted this astrological system onto the Roman calendar, made the first day of this new week a day of rest and worship for all, and imposed the following sequence and names to the days of the week: Di¶s S½lis, Sun’s Day; Di¶s L¿nae, Moon’s Day; Di¶s Martis, Mars’s Day; Di¶s Mercury°, Mercury’s Day; Di¶s Iovis, Jove’s Day or Jupiter’s Day; Di¶s Veneris, Venus’s Day; and Di¶s Saturn°, Saturn’s Day. This new Roman system was adopted with modifications throughout most of western Europe: in the Germanic languages, such as Old English, the names - of four of the Roman Gods were converted into those of the corresponding Germanic Gods. Therefore in Old English we have the following names (with their Modern English developments and day Lord according to Western/Indian Astrology): Sunnandzg, Sunday (Lord Vishnu); MYnandzg, Monday (Lord Shiva); T°wesdæg, Tuesday (the god Tiu, like Mars, was a god of war; Hanumanji); W½dnesdæg, Wednesday (the god Woden, like Mercury, was quick and eloquent; Goddess Durga); Thunresdæg, Thursday (the God Thunor in Old English or Thor in Old Norse, like Jupiter, was lord of the sky; Old Norse Th½rsdagr influenced the English form; Lord Brahma); Fr°gedæg, Friday (the goddess Frigg, like Venus, was the goddess of love; Goddess Lakshmi); and Saeternesdeg, Saturday (Bhairon).

Lal Kitab was presented to late Dr. Goswami Giridhari Lal in 1966 by Major Verma who was posted in the Ministry of Home Affairs for his research institute on Astrology. As Goswamiji had sound command over Vedic Astrology, he did not use it for predictions and the book remained just like any other book in his Astrological collection.

In 1983, Lal Kitab was suddenly in news when an astrological magazine Fate and Fortune published Lal Kitab’s remedies in one of its issues. Soon the market was flooded with Lal Kitabs and its numerous versions. Although, we have come across a number of reproduction/ versions of Lal Kitab, none of the writers has mentioned as to which particular issue of Lal Kitab, his work is based on. Some authors have traced its mythological origin to Arun, the Charioteer of Lord Sun. Others claim that it is based on some prophesies made to Pt. Roop Chand Joshi by God. We even have those so-called transcontinental astrologers who have linked its origin to the Arab/Muslim world.

The oceanic knowledge of occult science is being practiced in the hilly area of Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh where perhaps this ancient system was given to them by our Holy Saints. The book is replete with Vedic/Sanatan references namely Gayatri Mantra, Stotra, Gods, Ganga etc. which prima facie rules out its Arab/Muslim origins. Islam does not talk of Astrology nor relies on its validity. The fact that colour photographs of all the Lords of nine planets were depicted in 1952 edition again refutes any connection, whatsoever to Islamic Fiqh. We also have no hesitation in denouncing those who have traced Lal Kitabs origin to mythology. The script of the book and the style used by the author vindicates our inference.

We would subscribe to the popular and generally accepted view that the actual author of Lal Kitab was Pt. Roop Chand Joshi who hailed from Pharwata in United Punjab under British Rule. Panditji was an accountant in Royal Indian Army during the British Rule. During his tenure in Army, he received some old manuscripts from one of his colleagues who often ventured into Palmistry. Certain predictions made by the amateur palmist in respect of his seniors proved meticulously right.

The soldier was encouraged by his seniors to record his knowledge on paper, which would go a long way in strengthening the faith and trust of the common man in Astrology and Palmistry. Since the soldier was not a man of letters, he pleaded with Pt. Roop Chand to translate his acquired knowledge in black and white. Thus, the foundation of a great book was laid. The maiden issue which was titled "Lal Kitab Ke Farman"(1939) was not a comprehensive one and therefore, was not able to acquire popularity and acceptance among the astrologers and palmists in particular and public in general.

In a sequel to his maiden work Lal Kitab Ke Farman, Pt. Roop Chand Joshi brought out its several issues titled Lal Kitab Ke Arman. This book was published in 1940 and was supplement to the earlier book. In 1941, Lal Kitab Part III was published and gained fame as Lal Kitab Gutka. In 1942, Lal Kitab Ke Farman and after 10 years of it (1952), the final work of Pt. Roop Chand Joshi was published in the name of Lal Kitab which was published after compiling the previous issues of the books.

The reason that drove us to translate the five issues of Lal Kitab was our desire to put an end to all controversies cropping up about the origin of work and its validity. Secondly, since the books were readily available with us in Urdu language we could endeavour to check indiscriminate commercialisation in the name of Lal Kitab and also make efforts to convey to the masses the reality or facts about the original Work in an international language like English.

The first volume of Lal Kitab deals with the grammar of the book. In the first volume we have dwelt with the grammar of Lal Kitab quoting illustrations in such a lucid way that even the beginners can make good predictions. The different states of the planets, items related with - them have been explained through different tables. Father’s debt have been dealt in detail and the remedies for it have been advised accordingly. Readers are, however, advised to go through the grammar portion (volume I) thoroughly otherwise they cannot make full use of this field of occult science.

In the beginning of the book we have discussed the palmistry and phrenology section in brief which could be used for rectification of the horoscope while preparing the Annual chart or predicting the natal chart. Preparation of natal chart through palm have been discussed through which one can make a natal chart though, date, time, and place of birth of the native is not available. In this regard we would like to emphasis that before casting a horoscope through palm one should have good experience in this field. For some predictions help of phrenology could be taken.

The second volume of the Lal Kitab is all about interpreting the horoscope, suggesting the remedies by using the grammar given in the first volume of the book. Before suggesting any type of remedy for any evil or debilitated planet, one should see the reason for the problem and suggest remedy accordingly.

While predicting, one should take care of the planets in their fixed houses. Suppose Venus is posited in 2nd house, which is its fixed house and no planet gets debilitated in 2nd house. Its house lord Venus brings rapprochement and peace. Venus is called reincarnation of Goddess of Wealth. Here respect for one’s spouse will be a beneficial remedy for the native because Venus is also wife; but if the same Venus is posited in the House No. 4, fixed house of Jupiter, it will give rise to chances to meet women, cover up liaisons, flirtations and romance but marital bliss will not be available. Wealth will be destroyed and children will be few and far in between. Here the remedy would be establish Moon or throw Jupiterian things into a well. Have a small pond of water on roof top to end the evil effect of Venus. Here establishing Moon is recommended because according to zodiac signs fourth house belongs to Cancer whose lord is Moon and it is fixed house of Jupiter as per Lal Kitab. To understand this point one more example can be quoted of House No.11 which is fixed house of Jupiter but as per Zodiac Signs House No.11 belongs to Aquarius whose lord is Saturn. Hence, it could be said that land belongs to Saturn and building is constructed by Jupiter. Therefore, Saturn must have some impact over this house.

According to traditional Indian astrology, Rahu & Ketu cannot be conjoined in position; but only do so by aspect in the latter house where second evil is posited. For example, if they are posited in H. No. 1 & 7, they would be considered conjoined in H. No. 7.

This condition of Rahu-Ketu being 1 to 7 from each other does not hold for a chart based on Oceanic Thought. They can even be together. Whenever they are separate, wherever they are together by aspect, their combined effect for that house will be considered. Based on this principle, their conjoined effect for 12 houses has been given in this part of Lal Kitab. Knowledge of grammar of Lal Kitab is must given in first part of the book to understand this volume of Lal Kitab.

Lal Kitab Astrology is very much based on the articles, relations, business/profession and other miscellaneous things related to the planets which changes according to the houses of the chart. All the living and non - living things have been divided by Lal Kitab under nine segments. Such as brass (Sun), silver (Moon), soil (Venus), Gold (Jupiter), Iron (Saturn), elder daughter (Mercury) etc. One should bear in mind that whenever it is indicated that a planet in a particular house has malefic effect, it would be advisable to refrain from items relating to that planet. For example, Venus in H.No.9 generally causes financial losses. Hence, whenever in an annual chart Venus is in H.N0.9, if a white cow is purchased, it will cause heavy losses. Similarly, if items relating to particular house are established, their benefic or malefic effect will be as per transiting planet in that year.

A common misconception attributed to some authors of Lal Kitab in its various forms is that one can establish any planet in his/her desired house. Nowhere Lal Kitab subscribes to this theory. However, it do emphasis that doubtful planet can be remedied. A planet is considered doubtful if it is posited in a sign other than that (i) the one owned by it; (ii) or a sign in which it gets exalted or debilitated; (iii) or its fixed house; (iv) or else it is in company of another planet with which it has house exchange relationship. The benefit of its ‘doubtfulness’ can be availed to obviate its malefic effects. Any planet, which is in house of exaltation or debilitation, or its fixed house or its own sign, such a planet would have a pre - determined ‘cosmic effect’. It would be futile to make efforts to change its malefic effects, which is simply beyond human purview.

We would like to underscore that some people take the Lal Kitab’s remedies easy and do not follow them in letter and spirit. The reason underlying may be that these remedies fall short of their faith and devotion because some Lal Kitab’s astrologers recommend them without proper knowledge of the grammar of the book or they are not much costly in comparison to the remedies recommended by the astrologers of different schools. Secondly some people have apprehension that Lal Kitab is not a part of Vedic Astrology, which is totally wrong. If one really wants to be benefitted from the Lal Kitab’s remedies, one should have faith in their effectiveness and follow them with devotion as prescribed by their astrologer.

As Lal Kitabs were written in five parts between 1939 and 1952 AD, some 50 - 60 years ago, some predictions have been made in the then contemporary frame of mind. Therefore, it is advised that while predicting the horoscope, an astrologer should keep in mind the country which the native belongs, the period in which he was born, and the corresponding economical, social and political status of the native.

In our work efforts have been made to compartmentalize the rare aspects found in the five editions available in order to make them accessible to the masses and the astrologers so that they could make optimum use of this faculty. In this book we have left a number of Hindi technical terms related to Palmistry untranslated in English in order to avoid misunderstanding there actual purport. And to tackle this particular aspect Sagar Publications have brought out Lal Kitab Gutka which is a verbatium translation of Lal Kitab Part - III As this is more of a translation work and the Urdu words used in Lal Kitabs have been translated into English in verbatim.

We would again like to thank our readers for subscribing to our work and hope that this will go a long way in establishing a common man’s faith in this ancient Occult Science. We look forward to your valuable suggestions, which we would certainly try to incorporate in our forthcoming works.

    LAL KITAB

    (RED BOOK OF ASTROLOGY)

    (VOL. I)

    INTRODUCTION

    God Ordains Fate

The man is governed by his own fate,

Ordained by God which manifests on its own

No dispute of intellect (Mercury) or fate (Jupiter)

Destiny is written during period of divinity

Secrets of birth and death are concealed therein.

A man’s fate is ordained by God in which secrets of his life, death and course of events are hidden. He has also ordained to take care of the ungrateful. The subject of the aerial thought would undoubtedly indicate the day of death or secret of sex of a child in the mother’s womb. Nevertheless, it is inadvisable to forecast the same before time. While there is remedy for illness, there is no escape from death. Astrology, being the knowledge of the Unknown, is not magic nor a mantra. It comprises of all worldly considerations without any claim to divinity. It is to some extent a source of help for personal protection and tranquillity of the soul. It is not a weapon to be used against others. In the arena of fate, if the drain water (fortune) is obstructed, then, with the help of Astrology, appropriate effort could be made to set the course of events right by removing obstructions. But no increase or decrease cam be made in the quantity of water (Fortune). It is possible at times to raise a protective wall with the help of Astrology before a rapacious lion (evil events) assaulting a person so that the lion may not cause any harm. Even if the lion assaults with ferocity, without trying to cage it, a wall (of protection) with spiritual help could be raised. The lion would get exhausted, abandon the idea of assault and the man’ would get exhausted, abandon the idea of assault and the man would automatically be spared.

The Lal Kitab (Red Book) is auspicious if it is bound in red colour. All other colours (excepting red) would prove inauspicious.

This treatise is based on "Samudrik Shastra." It has been written in the form of different Commandants (Chapters). Repeated reading of the book would unfold the secrets of the subject.

There is no remedy for doubts and suspicion. To start raising doubts, even before testing anything, would not prove helpful for proper understanding of the subject. Secrets of a subject can be unravelled only if our approach is positive.

Casting a horoscope and ascertaining its correctness may be attempted only after understanding of the subject. In the meantime, experience may be gained from the horoscopes made on the principles of traditional Astrology. However, trying to understand the subject through one’s own horoscope would prove to be counterproductive

The real friend is one who points out the defects. Pointing out infirmities of the subject, in fact, would be helpful in augmenting knowledge.

One should refrain from speaking ill of any other expert on the Subject of Astrology. There is no doubt that ill feelings dominate the polluted minds of men with limited knowledge and foolish satirical kings. However, it would be humane and kind to give the benefit of the knowledge of the subject to other friends in good faith; since goodness breeds goodness.

Prudence demands that one should not take cudgels against destiny. one cannot author one’s own fate. The most auspicious course of life is the one, which has been pre - ordained. The most powerful, the brave and the ambitious cannot achieve results despite hectic efforts except those, which are destined and predetermined. One is, at times astonished to see marvelous things happening in a few magic moments and one is left wondering as to what is the secret of this entire marvel. Indeed, the answer to this is simple. When destiny (Jupiter) shines, a beggar becomes a king, not with standing the fact whether he has the strength where - withal or the need there of.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE NEW AND THE OLD SYSTEMS

Lal Kitab makes a fascinating study of Astrology,

It awakens dormant fortune and gives remedy for doubt,

Its crisp and clear formulations cut matters Short,

No constraint of Rahu/Ketu being 7th and birth sign,

Ascendant is First House, and chart ends at 12th

Neither it considers 28 constellations, nor ephemeris,

12 signs are ignored, only 12 Fixed Houses are taken,

Which along with 9 planets reveal the Secrets of Luck.

This System is based on Samudrik Shastra. It helps in rectifying the Ascendant of the horoscope made in accordance with traditional Astrology. When traditionally, reference is made to three rounds of Saturn’s evil transit of two and a half years each, events like snakebite, collapse or auction of the house, defects in eyesight, troubles upon paternal uncle bordering on death or loss of machines should indicate that Saturn is giving its malefic effects. Alternatively, it could be the sub - period of Sun in Sun Saturn; or 7 - 1/2 years of evil impact of transit of Saturn on Moon sign. It is better to base one’s understanding on firm events rather than on mere speculation. By correcting the horoscope with the help of palmistry, supplemented by the knowledge of events of life, Annual Charts unto 120 years of age can be made with the help of matrix given in the second part of the Lal Kitab.

In cases of ‘doubtful’ condition of planets, very simple and inexpensive remedies have been suggested which have been found to give results at opportune times.

The subject of Astrology is very vast. Hence, only those issues have been discussed which are of very serious and grave nature. Instead of talking of simple fever or minor troubles, it is better to feel concerned about TB, epilepsy, paralysis; or life or otherwise of a person. In short, every effort has been made to remove various doubts and apprehensions.

In traditional Astrology, if Rahu (Dragon’s head /Ascending Node) is in the House No.1, Ketu (Dragon’s tail/Descending Node) would always be in the House No.7. Mercury too would be moving around Sun in its proximity But such restrictions on planetary positions have not been taken in this treatise. Hence Rahu and Ketu could as well be nearer or farther, and at times they could even be together. Similarly, Mercury is not treated as tied with Sun. In fact, each planet has been presumed to be free to move or take a position of its own and would have its full distinct individuality, as per Annual chart.

In this system, while analyzing a horoscope, considerations of Signs and Constellations have been done away with. The Ascendant has been taken as H. No. 1, and the rest of the Houses are counted next in an anti-clockwise fashion in the order of sequence. However, the position of planets remains the same as in the traditional chart. The effect of different planets is read as per their positions in respective numeral houses. There is no need to resort to lengthy. calculations based on ephemeris. Constellations Signs, Lordship of various Houses are no longer necessary. The effect of planets is considered by articles, business or relationships related to them.

For example, if traditional horoscope (north Indian/ south Indian/ east Indian/ western (European/ American) reads as per charts given below, for this system it would be read as per example C - II thus the concept Rashies as distinct from house has been done away. Rectification of the horoscope according to Lal Kitab is explained in the chapter No.7 of this book along with Major Period (MahaDasha) and Moon Chart.

In place of Sign No.11 (Aquarius) - House No.1 has been given. Remaining houses have been numbered sequentially from 1 to 12. For analysing the horoscope, effects of Rahu No.1, Moon No.2, Saturn No. 3, Mercury, Mars, Ketu No. 7, Sun No.8, Jupiter, Venus No.9, would be taken.

Note: - When line of Moon / becomes a straight line or in company of branch lines, Moon will be debilitated or sign of Mars negative would be there. In that case Moon would be in House No. 8 and Mars would be in House No. 4.It is not necessary that every planet should form from the border its line. The same condition would apply to the signs on the hand. For example, Mars imgp27E was formed by fixing other lines from all sides. If the same shape is formed imgp27E after joining the hair lines on the hand which are scattered on the hand, they would form Mars and none other planet.

METHOD OF CASTING HOROSCOPE FROM THE HAND

In this part we provide with some curious interpretations of lines in Astro-palmistry as discussed in the Lal Kitab (Urdu version). Some of the interpretations are so curious that one hardly believes, but when interpreted them in actual practice, the results are marvelous and very accurate.

This method is quite different than provided in different works of Palmistry and needs practice. This may be used in for rectification of horoscope at the time of transiting of Planets in Annual Chart. When any line starts from an area and ends in another area the planet in which area the line ends will be found in the relevant House of the Horoscope. As for example if a line starts from area of Cancer or mount of Moon and ends in area of Capricorn, Saturn will be found in fourth House. The planets can be placed on this basis in the horoscope from the hands, but the signs, symbols and marks must be noted on the different areas of the hands. When a particular sign has been found in a particular area, that planet will be found in the same house or Sign. As for example when we find sign of Jupiter in the Mars area, it will indicate Jupiter is posited in Aries.

No lines have been assigned to Rahu or Ketu. Only signs and marks are assigned to these shadowy planets. Where in the palm their sign is located, these planets would be in that house. If no sign of Rahu imgp27E and Ketu imgp27E is located then Rahu would be in House No.12 and Ketu would be in House No.6 in the natal chart. When fish is found on the hand, Rahu is found in third or sixth houses and Ketu in ninth or twelth houses which are Known as their places of exaltation. The debilitation signs of Rahu are ninth or twelth houses where as Ketu in third or sixth houses.

Now we provide a few points and marks which will indicate the position of planets in different houses of the horoscope with reference to lines and signs on hand discussed in the coming pages.

In the following table there are some signs which are found on the right hand of the native and would give auspicious results.
