Draw Closer - Nicole A Jones

    INTRODUCTION

Growing up, while my brothers played football, basketball or baseball with their friends, my dad occasionally told them, Let the girls play. At times, their friends would stop playing ball and go home because they did not want to play sports with girls. My brothers had many reasons they did not want to play with us. They always reminded us, Y’all are too slow; Y'all can’t catch; Y'all don’t pay attention and the list goes on.

But, I recall one time, my dad went out and played football with them. He confidently told my brothers, pick a team. My brothers looked at each other with smirks on their faces and then picked the best of the best players. Then my dad picked his team, which consisted of the people my brothers did not want. Whoever was left, which also included me, went on my dad's team. My brothers grinned in confidence because they knew they would win the game, but my dad was not frayed. As soon as the game began, my dad with a serious expression on his face looked at me and said, Watch Me! He signaled to me which way to go and what to do. We all followed his instructions and won the

game. We were the least skillful, but we became winners because we followed my dad’s instructions.

God is also confident in His ability to make us winners. We may feel rejected, dejected, broken, bruised, battered, wounded or worst. God can draft us in any condition and make us champions. He does not panic. He is not influenced by what others have called us or what others think of us. Despite our lack of faith, God wants us. He desires to cleanse us, develop us, and perfect us in Him.

God is not looking for perfection. He is looking for willingness and obedience. He admonishes us to stay close even when people began to approve us and speak well of us. Even when our opponents ridicule us or call us names and remind us of our faults, He reassures us, as long as we remain on His side, we will we win.

We may never know all the traps the enemy has set or the impending paths of our journey. At times we may even fumble; but if we stay in the game on God’s side, we will always advance to the next level in Him.

Draw Closer is a collection biblical principles. They derive from events in the Old and New Testament. The lessons in it are for self-reflection and application. It provides a space for the reader to write down their personal understanding of what God is saying to them.

As you read it, I pray that you become encouraged in your walk. And that you also record some spiritual lessons you have learned and will learn as you pursue God. Our wisdom will help us to grow stronger in God, and understanding will help us draw closer to God together. So, let us Draw Closer to Him.
