Amanda, can you go walk the dog? Amanda’s mom asked.

אָמַנְדָה, אַתְּ יְכוֹלָה לָלֶכֶת לְטַיֵּל עִם הַכֶּלֶב? שָׁאֲלָה אִמָּא שֶׁל אָמַנְדָה.

Not now. I’ll do it later, Amanda replied.

When will you help me make Dad’s birthday card? asked her little sister, running into Amanda’s room. I’ve been waiting all day.

לֹא עַכְשָׁו. אֲנִי אֶעֱשֶׂה אֶת זֶה אַחַר כָּךְ, הֵשִׁיבָה אָמַנְדָה.

מָתַי תַּעַזְרִי לִי לְהָכִין אֶת כַּרְטִיס יוֹם הַהֻלֶּדֶת שֶׁל אַבָּא? שָׁאֲלָה אֲחוֹתָהּ הַקְּטַנָּה, כְּשֶׁהִיא רָצָה לְתוֹךְ הַחֶדֶר שֶׁל אָמַנְדָה.  חִכִּיתִי כָּל הַיּוֹם.

His birthday isn’t for another week! Amanda replied, sighing, not even turning her head. We can do it tomorrow.

יוֹם הַהֻלֶּדֶת שֶׁלּוֹ יִהְיֶה רַק בְּעוֹד שָׁבוּעַ! הֵשִׁיבָה אָמַנְדָה, נֶאֱנַחַת וַאֲפִלּוּ לֹא סוֹבְבָה אֶת רֹאשַׁה. אֲנַחְנוּ יְכוֹלוֹת לַעֲשׂוֹת אֶת זֶה מָחָר.
