MAYA LOOKED AROUND in the room to spot the man she was supposed to have a meeting with. Good, she thought. He was not here yet.

The employees were at it like worker bees, filing papers and sending e-mails as if the fate of humanity hanged on the balance. None of them lifted up their heads when Maya entered their floor, instead, all of them continued to work silently in their respective cubicles.

She walked up to the big office at the end of the floor, assuming it was Mr. Harrington’s office. Outside his door, his assistant was hurriedly typing something on her computer.

Maya approached her desk and waited for the assistant to acknowledge her.
