About this ebook

Elijah's lips touched the sensitive skin of Artemis' neck. Artemis was supposed to be afraid of this man. As she had been afraid of her since she saw him for the first time in that cemetery. But for some reason, he didn't terrify her at that moment. "Say it out loud! I want to hear you say that. Say it, babygirl. That you are mine." Elijah demanded.

Artemis flinched but not because of his demanding tone. She flinched in pleasure as one of Elijah's hands rubbed against Artemis' inner thigh. "I am yours, my Alpha!" Artemis moaned loudly as she threw her head back in pleasure. With a satisfied smirk on his face, Elijah pecked her cheek as a reward.

---------------------------------------------------------
Artemis was a human, living her life at the fullest. She was unaware of the world that awakens at night. Until one night, she found herself staring in the red glowing eyes of a big black wolf who was ready to tear her apart.

Alpha Elijah, the werewolf Alpha who strictly followed the rules he had made. A ruthless and merciless alpha who never once thought about having a woman beside him. Until he set his eyes on a pure beauty that took his breath away.

The Night Howler's Mate - Hira Baig

    Chapter 1

    ARTEMIS' POV:-

It was late at night. It was past ten o'clock. I had my bag hanging on my shoulders. I was wearing a summer dress. It was a dark night. Even though the moon was shining brightly in the sky. But the thick grey clouds had surrounded the moon. Blocking its pretty silver shining light. That always lights up the whole world when the sun goes down. That's it, Missy. Just across these thick woods and dark and horrifically terrible cemeteries, is your home. I know it's dark and I am terrified. But it was just another night when dad bailed on me. And I have to go back home alone. Nothing I have never done before. Let's go. After a little prep talk, I took a deep breath and started walking towards the cemeteries.

My name is Artemis Carter. And I lived in Queens. I lived with my dad and his wife. She was not my mom. She can never be. She was a horrible person and I definitely hated her. My biological mother, well, she and my dad divorced when I was five. And my dad got my custody because he was a wealthy man. And after that, he made sure that I would never see my beautiful mother again. It really broke my heart that I would never be able to see my mom again. But as always, I adjusted myself with the time. I still miss her. Especially when my step mom does something to hurt me.

I only remember her face and her voice. From my dreams I remember my real mom. She used to read me bedtime stories. While cuddling with me in bed. Those five years were the best years of my life. I used to have someone's warmth around me. To keep me safe. After that, I never felt safe. And that was the reason why I took taekwondo classes. To learn to defend myself. And to be honest, I never thought that I would be that good. Not even my taekwondo teacher when he saw me first. He even bet with his assistant that I would not last a month. And he lost a hundred bucks for that. Well, it was not my fault that he judged me like that. I was a green belt after two years.

I started walking on the only path I could see in the cemeteries. I was in highschool. I was fifteen years old, well, I would be sixteen in four days. To be honest, I just could not wait anymore to be eighteen. So I could kick my stepmom's ass and get out of that hell hole. And get a life of my own. A life where I could do whatever I wanted. Where I could eat whatever I wanted. And where I could dance whenever I wanted. As my stepmom was a horrible bitch, she never let me do anything as I wanted. Even with my future, she tried to ruin my future as well.

I always wanted to become a fashion designer, like my mom always wanted to be. But my stepmom told my dad that I wanted to join med school to become a veterinarian. She wanted me to become a veterinarian. And my dad, he was just wrapped around my stepmom's fingers. He did not even ask me. He assumed that I wanted what my stepmom had told him. No, he believed his bitchy wife that I wanted to be a veterinarian. I would always be grateful to the principal of my high school. He told my dad about my achievements as a fashion designer. And at last, he was convinced that I never wanted to be a veterinarian. I wanted to be a fashion designer just like my mom.

She was not a fashion designer. She got married very early and my dad never let her follow her dreams. But her dreams were too strong to just set down. Her dreams became my dreams when I was born. I just knew that she will be so proud of me when I become a famous fashion designer. Even though she was not around me anymore. But it felt like she had been protecting me all along. Helping me grow stronger. It felt like she became my guardian angel. Every time I felt like I had no way to go, the very next day I would find another path to solve my problem. Maybe she prays for me more than I can imagine.

I was half way through the cemeteries while thinking about my trashy life. It was just the other half that was left to be crossed. And to be honest, that part was scarier than the first half. Once my dad divorced my mom and got my custody, he sold his big mansion and bought this Villa across the cemeteries. He knew my mom was afraid of wild animals and the dark. He did it to keep me away from my mom. But he never knew that I was also afraid of the wild animals and the dark. He did not know, but my stepmom knew. And to make my life miserable, she never picked me up from school, she never let me take my own car and she never let my friends drive me back home when I stay late at their house to study. Because my stepmom never let me study too. As I said before, she was a bitch. And I hated her and my dad too. They both were the reasons why my life was practically a living hell. And I couldn't do much about it. Because I was still a minor. Every single night, I prayed that my mom would show up at our doorstep one day and take me away from that hell. But that day actually never came. I didn't lose hope though. I had planned to look for my mom the day I would turn 18. I wanted to find her and live with her for the rest of my life.

As I was walking very fast to reach the other end of the cemeteries soon, I started to feel tired and thirsty. I had my water bottle with me. But I did not want to take a break. Until I realised that I could not walk anymore. I stopped and looked around. I saw a huge tree on the right side of the road. I went towards the tree and sat down with my back resting with the log of the tree. I pulled the water bottle out of my bag and started drinking. As I was almost out of breath, I tried to drink slowly. But then I heard something. Something that scared the hell out of me. Something that made me get up and run. And that something was a howl. It all started with a Howl.

    Chapter 2

    ALPHA ELIJAH'S POV:-

Alpha Elijah, are you still listening? I groaned in annoyance as I heard Alpha Marco. He was the Alpha of the pack that lived in Queens. While I was the Alpha of the pack in Brooklyn. My pack was one of the most powerful packs in America.

Yes! Of course, Alpha Marco, I am still listening to you. When was your pack member attacked last and where? I responded to Alpha Marco in a flat tone. It was one of the few things I had learned in the last few years, since I became the Alpha. An Alpha should always use a flat tone with a straight face. Too much of anything can become a problem for me or my werewolves.

The last attack was the last full moon. And it was by the borders of both of our packs. The attacks were interrogated closely by myself and my beloved wife, Marina. It all happens in either Cypress hill cemetery or the evergreen cemetery. If you notice, there is a small path that connects both of our packs. And that path is through both of the cemeteries. Alpha Marco replied in a polite tone. I nodded my head in agreement while looking at the map they had prepared to show me. Along with the evidence to prove their points to me.

Okay, then. Tonight is a full moon night. And as we all know, we don't have many people to help us. So many of our werewolves are bound in the emergency rooms. But as we are in this together, I think we are enough to take a wild pack down. It is a now and never kind of situation. I replied in a flat tone while looking at the pack members I had brought with me. There were not many. My uncle Gray, who was also a guide for me ever since I became the Alpha. My best friend Denial, who was my right hand. My guide and the wizard of our pack, Gregory and his girlfriend, Lauren, who was also a powerful enchantress.

Of course, Alpha Elijah. We are in this together. As we have decided, the living wild wolves will be our slaves. If under your pack borders, the slaves will be yours. If under my pack borders, the slaves will be mine. We can try not to have any more casualties than we already had till the last full moon. It is time to put an end to this wild pack madness. After you, Alpha Elijah. Alpha Marco replied to me and I nodded my head in agreement. I stood up and so did my pack. We all went towards the door of the mansion Alpha Marco lived in. Alpha Marco was more of an old fashioned Alpha werewolf. He liked mansions and royalties and all. As for me, I was more of a modern age werewolf.

My name is Alpha Elijah Wilson. I became the Alpha when my father passed me the power before he died. He was a great Alpha. And I was also trying my best to be just like him. I have never known anything about my mother. She left me with my father and ran away. My uncle Grey took care of me and raised me. I hated my mom since I heard how she ran away right after the birth. As if I was a parasite she could not handle at all. I could not help but think this way as she never even looked at my face once. I loved my father but I hated my mother. And I was better off without her.

I hopped into my car and so did my pack. I started the car and drove towards the cemetery. I don't know but something seems off about that psychotic couple. They are being super nice to all of us. We all know how it all works. I am starting to think if we have to reconsider the options we have and make a new plan maybe. What do you say, Elijah? Dean, my wolf, asked me in an irritated tone that made me frown in confusion. It was the very first time when he actually asked me to reconsider my options. He was always supportive. He never actually stood in my way.

Why? What's wrong? Did you see or hear something that was maybe alarming for us? I asked him in a worried tone. I couldn't help but think there was something that was bothering him. Dean was the coolest wolf anyone could ever ask for. He was not just part of me, he was like a guardian angel for me. We adored each other like brothers. Dean sighed as he heard my questions. He shook his head and I rolled my eyes at him. He could be over dramatic sometimes. And sometimes, he could behave like a toddler.

In no time, we reached the cemetery. As I looked around, I frowned again. Marco almost had his whole pack there. As if they were ready. It made me think about the reason why Dean decided to interrupt me. Alpha Marco nodded his head at me with a smug smile on his face that added more spice to my suspicion. He and his pack started running into the woods around the cemetery to hide.

I am starting to suspect their super sweet behaviour towards us, Elijah. The look on your face tells me that you are suspecting them as well. Are you sure we are not here to die? He is here with his whole pack. And he told us that they were out of resources. There is something he is hiding from us. My uncle Grey was the one who asked me the same question as Dean. I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair. Of course I was thinking about that too. But I just could not back away after taking responsibility. I looked around and inhaled deeply.

It is a cemetery. What else do you all expect to see? We are surrounded by death. Just follow my lead. Make sure no human gets hurt. Try to keep your head down. And if you see anyone from the wild pack, kill them instantly. No questions to be asked. If you get hurt, hide and heal first, then step back into the fight again. Am I clear? I replied to them all in my usual calm tone. My tone carried authority and dominance of an Alpha. Like I should always behave. And as expected, they all nodded their heads right after I was done talking. A smirk appeared on my face as I turned around.

Then go and hide in the woods. We have to wait for the cockroaches to come out. Then kill them. I added and ran towards the spot I picked up for myself to hide. Of course, my pack was right behind me. They all hid and waited for my signal. Yes, I could feel what was concerning my pack. But if I backed away after taking responsibility for that problem, I would be called a loser in the Werewolf world. And I just could not afford to stain my father's name. We were known as the bravest alphas of all. How could I ruin the name he had made?

    Chapter 3

    ARTEMIS' POV:-

How I knew that was a howl, well, as I said before, my mom used to read me stories. Her stories were never a prince and princess story, staring towards their happily ever after. Her stories were always about scary things. Not that scary actually. They used to be around the night fantasy. That was what I used to call it. But she always called her supernatural. Call me superstitious, but I kinda love these stories. They used to make me feel safe and strong too. Those stories were my past and I loved the world my mom had created for me. It was warm and the best place for me to hide.

Anyways, as I was telling, from my mom's stories, I knew it was a howl. A howl of a wolf. She used to tell me stories about werewolves too. But are werewolves not wolves as well? They are the same things. Werewolves are not real while wolves are real. The howl was loud enough to scare the hell out of me. I could imagine the size of the wolf that might be in the cemetery. According to my calculations, he was bigger. And these cemeteries were very well known with these wolf attacks. The disturbing news was, it always happened once in a whole month. Just one night. I never understood why.

I quickly stood up and started running towards the gates of the cemetery. I wanted to get the hell out of there. I did not want to be eaten by a wolf that night. Or who knew, maybe there were more than just one wolf. As it happens in a horror movie, where a girl is running on the road and a stone suddenly comes in her way. She gets her foot banged with the stone and falls down on the ground. Well, technically, that happened to me as well. But I did not fall down. Remember, I was a trained taekwondo student. I was soon going to get my black belt.

Anyways, I did not fall down, so be at ease. So what happened to me, I was running like a terrified little mouse. Looking around if I could see anyone. But I was not able to see anything or anyone. But I could hear them. And as I had suspected, it was not just one big wolf. There were many. As the sounds were telling me. The only way I knew to save myself was to get home. So I ran as fast as I could. I ran almost a mile. Then something big and furry jumped in front of me, blocking my way to the gates of the cemetery.

It was huge, bigger than my calculations. So yeah, I am dumb. His fur was black as the thick dark night. His eyes were glowing red. His teeth had blood all over. A sign that he already had someone as his dinner. And now it was my turn to become his and his family's dinner. Something I was really not ready for. I was not that easy to take. I unzipped my bag and grabbed the nunchucks from my bag. I always kept them in my bag. I always walked back home late at night. I needed something to protect myself from everything evil. So blame me. Well, I don't care at all.

I dropped my bag on the ground and swang the nunchucks in style. Yeah bitches! I am not ready to become your dinner. You want me, I am not going down without a fight. SO COME ON! I yelled at the big black wolf that was growling at me. A short brown wolf from behind attacked me. It might have thought that I was looking away so it could take me. Well, not your lucky day, bitch. I swang my hand and the other end of the nunchucks collided with the brown wolf's forehead. Whimpering in pain, it fell down on the ground. I swang the nunchucks again to scare them. But, they were not dogs.

I knew scaring them was not that easy. I knew I had to try hard. Another wolf from my right hand, it lunged itself on me. It was not huge but it was black, just like the big wolf. I punched it's jaw hard. Then I swung the nunchucks again and hit its ribs. I heard a loud crack as the nunchucks collided with its ribs. I knew I might have broken its ribs. It fell on the ground with a loud thud and howled loudly in pain. To my surprise, my mom was right. The howl of pain was the worst. That howl could burst our brain. It literally felt that way.

Are two enough, or do you all want to die? Because trust me bitches. I am not scared of you all. Bring it on. COME ON!!! I yelled at them again and looked at the big black wolf. My heart skipped a beat or two when I saw what happened next. I was staring in the eyes of the big black wolf. And just as I yelled at him, I swear I saw him smirking at me. I knew what I saw. I was not drunk. I never took drugs in my life. And also I have never been around any addicts either. So I was not hallucinating. I literally saw him smirking at me. And it looked more like a proud smirk. I was confused as to why he had a proud smirk on his face.

It did not take me a long time to figure that part out. Because the next moment, all the wolves attacked me at once. My nunchucks were snatched away from my hands. And they were thrown far away from my reach. I tried using all my strength to free myself. But they were too many and too heavy for me. They all set their front paws on my hands and my legs to keep me pinned with the ground. As for the big black wolf, he slowly came towards me. I was breathing heavily as I could see my death dancing on my head. But at least, they did not get me easily.

I wanted to close my eyes as the big black wolf leaned his head in. But I did not. It used its one paw to tilt my head. Actually, to expose my neck for himself. It turned its head up again and howled loudly. It opened its big and scary mouth and leaned in again towards my neck. I screamed as loudly as I could when I felt it's big sharp teeth on my neck. I was waiting for an unbearable pain to endure. But instead, something else happened. I heard a bigger, louder and more dominating howl. It was from afar. I saw the big black wolf growled as it raised its head to see where the howl came from.

    Chapter 4

    ELIJAH'S POV:-

We were hiding and waiting for the wild pack to show itself. I tried to move into the woods. I was quiet and quick. It was until the air carried a scent that was as delicious as the vanilla ice cream. It was so delicious that it made my mouth water. I licked my lips and gulped hard. I closed my eyes and inhaled as deeply as I could. I wanted to fill my lungs with that delicious aroma. It was so intoxicating that I just got lost in an unknown world. I could hear the wild wolves howling and whimpering in pain. But the daze I was in, it did not let me move at all. I stayed rooted to that place, enjoying that amazing aroma.

I also heard the wild pack's Alpha howling to the moon. But I did nothing at all. It was until I heard a loud scream that pulled me out of the oceans of my desires. I shifted into my half wolf form and jumped out of the woods. The wild pack's Alpha looked at me and I growled. I saw those wild wolves had a little girl trapped between them. Well, she was not that little. She looked like a teenage girl. Probably eighteen or maybe nineteen. But I was talking about her size. She was short and she looked very fragile. I howled loudly as I saw the wild pack's Alpha signalling his wolves to run.

My howl brought both my wolves and Marco's wolves out. Follow the rest of the wild pack. I will take care of the Alpha. He is mine. I roared at them. They all nodded and followed the rest of the pack. Taking advantage of the moment, the girl kicked the wild pack's Alpha's snort hard. I chuckled as the wild pack's Alpha backed away from the girl. In a ninja style, she hopped back up on her feet. She gritted her teeth in anger and kicked the wild pack's Alpha in his balls. He groaned in pain and it bought her enough time to run. While the wild pack's Alpha was on the ground, licking his balls to heal. I did not know she could hit that hard.

As she was running in the different direction, something snapped into me. I jumped in front of her and stopped her. She screamed loudly as she saw my face. I went closer to her and slapped her hard enough that she fell on the ground, out cold. As I looked around, I found the wild pack's Alpha standing ready to attack me. So that was the reason why you wanted to turn her. She kicked you balls. She could kick your ass. I know well your kind just don't accept an ordinary human to be part of your pack. Perhaps, she has something in her that you can smell. I spoke in a taunting way. I wanted him to attack me first. I could not just kill him without a fight. Or it would ruin the name my father had made.

As expected, the wild pack's Alpha attacked me. I was ready for him, of course. I punched him hard and it fell on the floor with a loud thud. Then I lunged myself at him. I bit it's back and punched him so hard that I broke his ribs. He howled in pain as I ripped his skin off of his back with my fangs. I growled in a taunting way. In a few seconds, he stood up again and jumped on me. But I ducked again and kicked him hard on his left leg. He fell on the ground again, whimpering in pain. I had to kill him but of course, I wanted to have a little fun. Where the fun is in just killing him. I wanted to play a little with him. Then I would kill him, that was the plan in my head.

I growled again to taunt him. But he did not move from his place. Suddenly, the girl screamed again and as I turned around to look at her, she hit my head so hard that I saw stars spinning around my head. I shook my head and looked at her. She had a weapon in her hands. And she was swinging it very efficiently. I did not even know the name of that weapon and that tiny and fragile girl was using it efficiently. I growled at her and tried to grab the weapon. But her moves were amazing. It was as if I was blind. I did not even see when the weapon collided with my jaw.

I spat blood and looked around. The wild pack's Alpha was about to lunge at both of us. I kicked her legs and she fell on the ground. I knew he wanted to bite her. So he could turn her. But I could not let that happen. I clawed his chest then kicked him away. He came back with full speed. His eyes were set on the girl. He was determined to bite and turn her. I kicked him again then grabbed his tail in my mouth. I ripped his tail off and he again howled in pain. The girl backed away a little as she finally understood how dangerous this game was. Yes, it was a game for me. A game that I loved to play. And I never lost that game.

He took a few minutes as he stood up again, his eyes were still on the girl. He ran towards me. I was ready to take him down. But at the last second, he threw dust in my eyes using his far paws. I tried to clean my eyes, that was when I heard the girl's loud scream again. I growled under my chest and using my hearing abilities, I kicked the wild pack's Alpha. But he did not move at all. I could hear that he had his claws dug into a tree. I opened my eyes as they were finally cleaned. He had one of her arms between his teeth. But she was not bleeding.

I grabbed him by his back legs and tried to tear him away from her. But his hold was firm on her arm. Suddenly that delicious aroma again reached my nostrils. I knew she was starting to bleed. I had no other choice but to use my fangs to tear her away from him. I bit her thigh, jamming my fangs as deeply as I could. She screamed loudly in pain as I bit her hard. She was crying in pain. Instead of trying to tear him away from her, I decided to end that game. I used both of my claws. I jammed my claws deep into his throat. As I pulled my claws out, they ripped his throat out too.

He fell on the ground with a loud thud and within a second, he died. As for the girl, she was out cold again. This time, because of the pain. I looked around as I came back to my senses. I had bitten a girl. Something we never did in our pack. I could never let anyone know what I did. But I must protect her too. And there was only one way to kill two snakes with one stone. She was lying under the boundaries of Marco's pack. I smirked as an idea popped up into my mind. I picked her up and took her towards my pack's boundaries. I took her to the safe distance from Marco's pack boundaries. Then gently laid her down on the ground. I made sure to hide her between the pine trees. So no one could catch her scent. Once I was done hiding her, I ran away to find my pack.

    Chapter 5

    ARTEMIS' POV:-

I opened my eyes again and found myself lying on the ground. I shivered as the place was so dark and cold. I tried to look around but I was not able to see anything. It was too dark for me. I started sobbing as I stood up
