    Introduction

This story starts deep into the past…back when all was right and nothing seemed wrong. Sometimes we are blind to what is really happening all around us. This is the story about a race that long ago became instinct. (Or at least in books of the future might have said.) The race known as the Mystic Ones lived peacefully with the humans; on a world, they called Earth.

The land was also full of magic that seeped deep into the lands. Most of the elder races Dwarfs, Elves and most magical creatures had vanished from the known lands. Humans and mages live in harmony; at least most do. This story is about a young Mystic One who is thrown through time in a world filled with magic as she finds herself and the world she had lost.

Lista Ends journals are what you are about to read of an adventure into this very world of magic.

First week of first month of winter

    Journal entry forty-five

The war started before I was born, but the part I remembered was the battle in the castle of my parents. Let me start my story at that very moment. It was bitter cold when the first snowflake of winter fell and the grounds of the castle turned red with blood. I was only five years old when the war reached us. The strange part of this war was that we never saw it coming. In my early days, I had long blond hair. I look more my mother than my father but I did have the shape of my father’s wings. Father insisted I stole my mother’s eyes and smile. However, my mother said I had my father’s ears and nose.

My mother held me close to her as the pillars in the great hall moved. I watched mother’s wings wrapped around us as she held me even closer. It was her way to protect me. We were an old race known to us some as the Majestic Ones.

We had powers unlike any in the world we came from. We were the last known Majestic Ones to exist. The pillars moved slowly as the ground shook as they came to a sudden stop. My father stood in front of the doorway. When I looked through my mother’s arms the door suddenly shattered. My mother’s shield around her stopped most of the wooden shards from striking us. My father held his sword ready while watching the door. He then stuck the sword into the first creature he saw. The world of monsters was at our doorsteps. He looked back when he was about to be over run after killing so many of them.

However, he had time to turn toward my mother and I. He gave a smile before he released one single energy blast from his hand that struck one of the pillars. The pillar to the left of us struck my mother with a bright light. Then another and another; four times I saw the light strike her. Suddenly with a mighty roar, the room shook. All I could do was hold her tightly as the world fell from view. You see our race is basically magic. We can even tame it and control all naturally. I was a princess or I was one until this very day changed my life.

What I remembered of this night that I was woken up by my mother in the middle of a dream. She dragged me down the halls of our castle. I watched the castle’s windows as it were struck by something magical. I knew it was magic because it always gave off a scent of burning embers. I grew up loved by my mother and had no real friends since everyone in this world was scared of the creature we were; at least that’s what I thought.

Therefore, I had fun with my mother playing with my dolls or even tea with her. My father when he was not busy also had time to play with me with magic. He was my teacher and was a bit tough. Earlier that day we had breakfast before he trained me. It seemed normal as any day was. The people of the world came to see us but lately less and less came for help. Normally the humans would show up and we meet them and help them with their daily life with a bit of magic.

I loved to help when I could but little bit of magic I could do also needed some work. We had many servants who we let flee when the war on the castle started. We had very few guards and people who needed to guard us. We did not think we were going to be invaded. Let me tell you a little bit about my parents.

My mother had short blond hair and eyes that match the sea. She smiled all the time until the time we were invaded. She loved to draw and she was good at it. She was better at it with fruit than vined plants or people. But she could draw rooms so well.

Her name was Lastra and I loved her so much. My father was all his own. He loved to help people as well as creating things with magic. Everyone in our race as a special gift his was to create something out of nothing at least that’s what I thought until that very moment of war. My mother’s gift was shields and she barley used it. My father’s hair was black and he had light brown eyes. He was tall to me and always had a smile that never seem to end. His name was Zern and I love my daddy. I only knew the love my parents gave me. If I had one single wish it would have been that I had a friend. Ok now back to the story at hand.

While me and my mother was stuck from the light from the pillars in what seemed like a moment to me I could only think would I see my father again? Our race was very smart even at the age of five I could understand what most adults would talk about. I’m not sure if it’s me or our entire race did that. My mother called me a smart cookie.

I think she just loved cookies. In this endless encasement of light my mind seemed to wonder as I could not stay in the thoughts I wanted. My mother’s embrace was crushing me. She would not let me move an inch. I could feel her breath as she seemed to be having a hard time.

I felt so crush and loved all at once. I wished this would end as I would love to see my world back to normal. I knew it would never be normal. A sadness overtook me when I finally came to see what was really going on. My father was dead and my mother and I were lost.

I wanted to cry but my mother’s arms jerked many times as I knew she was in pain. I tried to give her some of my energy but she refused to take any of it.

My darling… do not use anything of your magic. That is what she whispered to me. I could hear her voice shake and her tears splashed on my face. She wanted to keep happy for my sake. I wanted this to end and so it did. The light ended and I could hear the pillars move once again.

First week of first month of fall

    Journal entry forty-Six

My mother fell over me and I could not move. I heard a few voices in the room with us. Also, I could smell the magic in the air. The spell that protected us ended as fast as it started. My mother moved enough to let me escape. I crawled out of her arms and she fell backward. Her wings were black and burnt. She had taken so much damage. I looked at the man with the funny hat. Then back to my mother. He rushed over to her and picked her up as best he could. I followed him into a room that was far off from the main hall we arrived in. He placed her on the bed and that moment her eyes opened.

Take care of her please, my mother whispered.

She fell limp. At that moment, I started to cry. I grabbed her arm but she vanished and only thing that remained was her clothes and some feathers. I did notice her bracelet on the bed and I grabbed it.

Is it true a Mystic One appeared, I heard a lady say.

I looked around and noticed a lady wearing a strange robe. I guess it was middle of the night since the rooms were lite by candles. She paused as soon as she noticed me. She looked at me then at the man.

It seems they did exist, he rubbed his hands.

    How and when, she asked?

What will happen now is the question we should ask… he whispered.

I watched him as he looked deep in his thoughts. I was so scared but also very tired.

What is your name child, the lady asked?

    Lista Ends, I said.

Well Lista you’re in Castle Storm, he said.

Where are you from, the lady asked?

    Your names, I whispered.

My name is Arsis and that is Lana, he said.

Let’s get her cleaned up and feed her, Lana said to me as I yawned.

I followed them until I reached a room that held strange stalls in them.

In the far corner of the room was I guessed was a tub. It was huge and had running water that poured into it that was steaming.

LASTA water, she said while moving her hands with a stick.

For a moment, I thought she said my name wrong. I then noticed the water stopped pouring into the tub. Was that magic I wondered? I didn’t think humans could use it. She helped me out of my night clothes and into the warm water. I had no smile to give and she helped me wash. I used to have mother do this but I was tired and hungry. I didn’t see the man for a while until he yelled in the room.

You two done? I brought her some food.

I think you’re clean enough, she murmured.

With her help, I moved out of the bathtub. The floor was cold and I started to shiver.

Did you have her clothes, she asked?

He came into the room and with his eyes slightly covered; looking away placed the dress into her arms.

Dear me her wings will be a challenge, she said.

    Ulter Clothesa, she yelled!

I watched the clothes change as it slipped around me and dressed me. She amazed me that she could use magic. I wonder why she had to say words.

How do you do that, I asked?

You mean magic? She gave a half a smile as she stood back up.

    Yes, I whispered.

Well you’re in a school for it, Arsis pointed out.

    School?

You don’t know what school is? Lana sighed.

It is a place we teach young children like yourself magic. There are four schools just like this one. Each of the schools is an element. We teach water magic. The students go to each castle and learn an element for each year, he said.

Most of the children I have to guess around your age. How old are you, she asked?

    Five, I whispered.

Well since a Mystic One is here and school will start in a month what do we do with her, Lana asked Arsis.

They question I think we need to ask is that we have not seen her kind in ages, he rubbed his hands.

What year is it, I asked?

What year? Your race been gone for almost a thousand years, she said.

But I was with mommy a few moments ago, and daddy too, I said.

What do you remember, he asked me?

Arsis let her eat first then rest then she can talk, Lana said as she shuffled me out the door.

She picked up the food off the small table near the door and walked down the long hallway. She stopped a staircase and headed up a tower. We all followed her until I could no longer move up any more stairs. Arsis picked me up and we continued to the top. She opened the door and the room was small but was will decorated. She placed the food next to the bed and Arsis placed me on it. She then handed me the food. I looked at it and then reach out for a piece of what I thought maybe fruit. The food was very good I thought. After I ate, I sat back on the pillow. She reached out to touch my wings.

Softer than I thought they would be, she said.

This is just amazing. The world is about to change once again, Arsis yelped out.

    Let’s let the girl sleep.

I watched them talk as they left the room. Then I settled into the bed and held my mother’s bracelet. It was all I had of her that was left. I must have been dead tired I fell asleep only to have nightmares all night long. I woke up early the next day. So, I left down the stairs and looked around. This castle was not the same one I lived in.

Maybe they moved the pillars to this castle. After wandering around I found the hall that I appeared in. The tables were back in the room and seemed they were getting ready for the children. I never heard of a school before because my mother and father teach me what I needed to know.

I sat down at one of the tables and placed my head down for a moment. When I heard a noise, I looked up. That is when I noticed an older lady moving a huge bag behind her but it seemed to be moving itself. The other lady next to her was younger maybe my mother’s age. They both were talking when the younger lady noticed me. She paused for a moment.

Take a look at that, she said.

She has wings, the other lady said.

Dora and Tara, have you seen a little girl… Lana looked over at me. Never mind.

Heaven a bitsy is that a Majestic One, Tara asked?

Let me introduce you to her, Lana slowly moved over to me.

Ladies meet Lista Ends, Lana said proudly.

My name is Dora I’m a teacher here…Water level one, she boasted.

My name is Tara. I teach water level two, she said.

How or where did she come from, Dora asked?

We don’t know but she is here and that is good enough for now, Lana said.

Seems this year will be fun, Tara said.

I watched them all leave but Lana came back to show me where to get some food. The kitchen was massive. I had to guess it was much bigger than the kitchen in our castle.

I’m sorry if the food is not great but I’m not a cook and the kitchen staff will not be here until tomorrow, she murmured

I took a bite and the food tasted fine to me. After I finished eating we left the kitchen and I followed Lana.

    Where is Arsis, I asked?

"The director? He is out for business. Since you’re here and it seem you have no place to go to. The director has decided to keep you at the school.

You will live in that room we gave you for now. We decided you will have to go to school too. Since you’re so young and the children who start this school start at almost ten years of age you will have a hard time. She glanced at me then said, But I’m sure you will do just fine."

I held my mother’s bracelet. I was scared of school and all of this. In a way, I was not ready.

Today we will be going to town, she said.

After following her around we ended up in front of a door to a room. When she opened the door, I was amazed on all the stuff in her room.

Like you I live in the castle. There is only a few of us that do. We take care of it on off school days. Wait here while I go get dress, she said.

She left the room into another room. I looked around because she had so many neat stuff. I noticed a jar filled with eyes. Suddenly the eyes moved to watch me. It made me scared so I ran to the other side of the room. Then I noticed a wall filled with wands. Some with feathers and others had crystals. I looked over at her when she stepped back into the room. She was dressed very strange.

Her dress was more like a robe with many symbols all over it. It was very blue and seemed to flow like water.

    Do you like, she asked?

    Very blue, I said.

I like blue, she said as she fixed her huge flat hat.

I followed her out of the room and all the way down to the entrance of the castle. I noticed a man with a horse and a carriage. He bowed as he opened the door to the coach. Lana stepped into the carriage then she reached for me. The man helped me into it. So much was happening to fast.

I missed my parents. I was only five and I didn’t understand anything in this new world. Suddenly I felt the carriage move.

I will tell you a story and I let you fill the rest in. That way we can find out what happened to you, Lana said.

"Long ago there was a civil war from the north and the south. Most common people in the south loved your race, but the people in the north thought that your race was evil and wanted to destroy you. There was a battle and all the Majestic Ones or some called you Mystic Ones were killed. This part of history is all we know. Since most of the history had been destroyed and only a few things are known about your race.

About four hundred years ago, some humans started to govern magic. There is no south or north but four ruling lands that now live in peace. At least as far as the mountains will let us go. No one has gone past them. We all created the schools to teach the magic so no one uses it for evil. Since you’re the last of your race and so much of past had been lost from the war I’m sure the council will be watching you."

    Council, I asked?

A group of people that govern the magic as I said before, she said.

I explained how I came to the room of the castle. She had a hard look about her.

Sounds like your parents loved you. The best thing you can do is live on and live a good life for them. The teachers at the school are good people to learn from. We are going to go buy school supplies you might need.

    A stick, I asked?

    A stick, she murmured.

I pointed to the small stick that she used when casting magic.

The one she had on her was green with prettiest design on it with a pink crystal on the top. It had silver metal twisted around the base.

You mean my wand, she asked?

I nodded at her. She looked at me then out the window. She didn’t say anything to me until the carriage stopped.

We will walk the rest of the way, she said.

The man on the carriage watched me like a hawk. Even when he first saw me it took him a moment to say or do anything. I guess they have never seen anyone with wings before. The crowd street became silent as the people all stared at me. It scared me enough to grab at her robe and held on like my life depended on it.

She stopped at a store that had huge windows I thought. The windows were cut into small pieces with a rainbow of colors. I followed her into the building. She waved at the man behind the counter. He started to talk to her but suddenly stopped when he noticed me.

Blessed be is she really a Majestic One, he asked?

He stepped around the counter and looked at me carefully. He was about to reach down then stopped inches from me.

    May I?

What is your name, I asked?

You're right we should exchange name first. Where are my manors. My name is Mr. Dudley I’m the owner of this fine store.

He bowed in a strange way made me laugh at him.

    Really, Lana snapped.

What is your name, he asked?

    Lista Ends, I whispered.

Nice name for a nice lady. What can I do for you two, he asked?

    School supplies for her.

I see… does that mean she has yet to have anything, he replied.

The thought that he does talk funny entered my mind.

Yes everything, she said with a heavy sigh.

Very well; so, she will need a wand and this book and this one, he stacked a bunch of books.

Why does Miss Tara always pick the old books, Lana asked?

I just get the list madam, he gave me a wink.

What type of wand do you like, he asked me.

He placed a bunch of them on the small table near me. They all seem to be the color blue.

Water wands since that is what you will be learning, Lana said.

I picked up the one I like the most. It was pretty with a small round blue stone on the top and a feather dangling off it.

That’s a nice wand. That will be 400 Cerns, he said.

Wow… how much was that wand, she asked?

Well that one is one of more expensive ones. Do you want to go cheaper, he asked?

I wanted it. It was prettier than the rest. I looked at Lana and held it tightly.

No I will let her have it… this once, she said as she handed him the money.

Let’s go get some clothes for you to wear.

I followed her out of the store with my wand in my hand. I was happy about the wand. Once I exited the store I never noticed but a crowd had lined up outside to see me.

    A Majestic One, someone yelled!

The crowd was even bigger than before. I noticed many children my age and older watching me.

I hide behind Lana the whole time. It was strange that people bowed to her and seemed to respect her. I felt safe around her.

Ok everyone it’s nice to look at her but this is enough, she yelled as she held up her wand.

A massive spray of water shot above us covering the crowd. They all moved away from us long enough for us to move into the next store. This store had people in it and it was huge. There were a lot of clothes all over the place. She moved to the back of the store were the clothes for school were located. The uniforms were all the same but in different sizes. Everyone in the store was watching me.

So, the rumors were true a real Mystic One. The tall lady said, She is so cute too!

We need a uniform for her, Lana said in commanding voice.

What do we have in her size? I’m guessing will need it fitted as well, the lady asked?

    Are those real?

I looked over to the girl who was a bit taller than me. I gestured My wings?

Yes… are they real, she asked again.

    Very real, I whispered.

Amanda Higgens … are you ready for school, Lana asked?

Amanda’s eyes grew huge as if she didn’t
