Death's Guide To Seduction - Skye Hunter

I will come for you in one year

Holly shook her head and tried to ignore the memory.

    It can’t be real.

She looked around the white sterile office from her seat atop the exam table. The paper below crinkled as she adjusted the white gown she wore. It was far too long and a good portion of it rested on the floor. There were at least a dozen frames on the wall, awards, diplomas and pictures of his family.

I will come for you in one year

It was that voice again, raspy and dark and the vision of that night. She shook it away and concentrated on the diplomas.

Thomas Jones, Harvard, she mouthed softly under her breath. She had come here for a final opinion with the recommendation of her doctor.

Or do I already know the answer?

It all started that night. He or It had come to her bedroom and his presence had awakened her. He was tall and imposing. She still remembered his alabaster skin barely visible under his dark cloak which covered his entire body. She was scared, unable to speak as one would be when they awoke with a strange man in their room.

Holly, he spoke and she froze. His voice was hard to fathom, like nothing she had ever heard; the hiss of a snake mixed with the voice of an old man. Each word sent shivers up her spine.

Who are you? What do you want? She couldn’t remember if she had actually spoken these words or if she just thought them but the man in front of her had heard and his answer was still with her. She heard that voice every day.

"I am Death. I have come to warn you.

    Warn me?

I will come for you in one year, he said.

And then he was gone. And Holly didn’t know what to do. Then came the doctors and the tests and finally here she sat waiting for Dr. Jones from Harvard to give her the news.

It had been one month since that night but it was still fresh in her mind. She never told anyone about it. She thought no one would believe her. They’d label her as crazy. But she knew what she felt in her room that night. It wasn’t just a dream, it was real.

    I have one year left.

She sighed and the door opened.

Dr. Thomas Jones was a handsome man with a compassionate smile. He sat down on a stool besides the examination room.

This is never an easy conversation, he started.

Oh god. It’s all true then.

Her thoughts raced in her head and she only heard parts of what Dr. Jones was saying. Her head bowed down and she stared at her hands as he spoke.

One year, that’s not enough time. at best one year and it.. But why would Death visit me. Why tell me ahead of time? The treatment has a low chance of success I’m so young, this is so unfair not painful And what have I done with my life? No family, no career, not even a boyfriend and they’re telling me I have just one year left? it won’t be easy but What am I supposed to do now? extremely rare I will come for you in one year. Why me?

Holly looked up at the man in front of her. Her hands shook and she felt so powerless.
