What To Avoid and Why:
Foreword
I felt compelled to write this book and it goes out to all those of you who are suffering with an illness. If you treat the cause, you will recover and live a healthy life again.
The old great wise Greek physician Hippocrates
said ...
‘All disease begins in the gut’.
Sadly, today this is being completely ignored by the medical profession.
‘Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food’.
Also included is the autoimmune diet plan and food list that I followed that helped me heal my gut, as well as a list of natural supplements and antifungals.
It also contains a list of helpful books, including autoimmune cookbooks as well as links to useful websites.
The Diagnosis
It was dark, rainy, cold October morning in 2012. It was about 8.30 am and I was driving to work, I worked as a Legal PA in Clifton, Bristol. As usual, I was feeling extremely tired to the point where I could hardly keep my eyes open and my whole body felt exhausted. But today was different, strange dark thoughts were running through my mind. I thought if I drive my car into a brick wall and I end up in a coma, at least then I can have a nice long sleep, I felt beyond exhausted. Those clearly are not the thoughts of a rational well person.
I had not been feeling well for a few months, very tired all the time, but it was a fatigue that was off the scale. Also, my legs had started to feel heavy. I was still going to my weekly Zumba class at my local gym, but I was finding the class more and more difficult. I had recently run the Race for Life with a friend, but I had really struggled to even get round the course and ended up walking most of it. At the persistence of my mum, I had been to the doctor, and she had done a blood test, the results showed that my liver enzymes were raised. What could have caused that? I asked, we don’t know, she replied, but come back in a few weeks and we’ll do another test, they will probably be lower next time, she said.
What was causing my liver enzymes to rise? I didn’t smoke, I wasn’t a regular drinker, I had a healthy diet and I exercised regularly, it was a mystery. I later learned that it was both inflammation as well as the deadly toxins from candida albicans causing my liver enzymes to rise, basically my liver was overloaded and struggling to cope.
I had been a healthy child, my mum was a great cook and we always had good home cooked meals, but for some reason from a baby I had suffered with regular bouts of tonsillitis which continued well into my adulthood. But instead of them taking my tonsils out, I was just given more and more antibiotics. I strongly feel that at some point in my childhood either a doctor, or my parents should have insisted my tonsils were taken out. It
