    INTRODUCTION

If you are reading this book, you must be like the rest of us—anxious to find an outlet for the cares of your everyday life. What better way to do that than through simple, everyday prayers to your loving Heavenly Father!

Whether you access them daily or only in times of distress, the prayers in this book have been designed to build you up in your faith and provide an anchor for your soul as you make your way through life’s storm- tossed seas.

We have included a scripture from the Bible with each of these meditative prayers. And we have arranged them topically so that you can find just what you need when you need it.

So take a few moments to make these prayers your own. Open your heart and your hands to receive God’s glorious promises, and apply them to the circumstances you are facing.

May God bless you as you take time to be with Him.

    When I Feel Angry . . .

Be angry, and do not sin:

do not let the sun go down on your wrath.

    Ephesians 4:26

    Father,

You help me overcome my angry thoughts and emotions. You are so patient with me, and You help me to be patient with others. You don't ask me to deny my anger or pretend it away, but You give me the courage I need to face it honestly—and forgive. You encourage me to seek reconciliation with those who have offended me. Thank You for the peace that comes from doing things Your way.

    Amen.

He who is slow to wrath has great understanding,

but he who is impulsive exalts folly.

    Proverbs 14:29

    Father,

You are my Source of patience and understanding. When life is frustrating and I feel anger building within me, it is so good to know that You are as close as my breath, calming the storm inside my head and giving me the self-control I need to think before I respond with harsh words. You are so faithful to smooth out my ruffled feathers and help me regain my inner peace.

    Amen.

Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

    James 1:19-20

    Father,

Your love guides me in all my relationships.

Most of the time, it’s those I love most who stir up my angry emotions. Thank You for quieting my heart and helping me to see the underlying cause of my anger— whether it be exhaustion, anxiety, or fear. Thank you for reminding me to consider the person I am in conflict with. When You help me in these ways, You enable me to act wisely, measure my words carefully, and preserve rather than destroy my most important relationships.

    Amen.

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

    Romans 12:21 niv

    Father,

With Your help, I can overcome evil with good. When I am angry and overwhelmed by hurt, my first response is to lash out, fight back, and get even. But I know that You are pleased when I seek Your peace and trust You to help me focus on unconditional love and forgiveness. Give me a heart big enough to choose good, to bless and not retaliate, and to look for the hidden blessing in the midst of every difficult situation.

    Amen.

    When I Feel Anxious . . .

I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

    Jeremiah 29:11 niv

    Father,

I know You have great plans for me.

When I look at my life, I often see chaos, change, and confusion. I become anxious, afraid that my dreams will never come true. But You say that I have a future and a hope, that marvelous plans will one day be revealed in their fullness. Today I choose to rest in that hope and believe that You will help me fulfill every dream You have placed in my heart.

    Amen.

We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

    Romans 8:28

    Father,

    You always keep Your promises.

I have no reason to be anxious or fearful because You have promised that You will make every circumstance in my life work together for my good. I can trust You. When I look back on my life, I see that You have been there in every situation. You promise me a good future. And in this present moment, You are here with me.

    Amen.
