Gaurish Borkar

Mr. Gaurish Borkar was first introduced to Vedic astrology when he was a teen and got his first degree in astrology when he was just 14. He comes from a traditional family and his grandfather Shree. Haribhau Borkar was well known astrologer from Goa India. Even though Gaurish could not get much guidance from his grandfather as he died when Gaurish was too young, inherited knowledge was always in the blood. Gaurish got guidance from his cousin grandfather for next few years. After practicing Vedic astrology successfully for more than 6 years, Gaurish realized that just ability of accurate prediction is not good enough but ability to provide a solution is more important. Therefore, he started learning various remedial measures like Reiki, gemmology, hypnosis and NLP along with traditional remedial measures. He started his practice of Vedic astrology again after studying various remedial measures for more than 16 years. Now days he enjoys to evolve people and help them to achieve their goals, rather than just predicting their future.

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

I want to thank my family for making this book possible. This is my fifth book on Vedhic Astrology. I wrote my first book in 2015 and started working on two more books. Authoring a book requires dedicated time and my wife is always supportive of it. It is only because of the support of my family; I could author all five books. I want to thank them for their support and sacrifice. I also want to congratulate and thank my old friend Shree Dharmendra Sharma for the cover page as his expression of love towards me.

Conventions Used in this Book to Convert Savskruth (Sanskrit) words into English

Savskruth is a phonetic language and it has specific sounds. Unfortunately, not all those sounds are available in English. Due to this limitation, everyone tries to find the nearest sound while converting the Savskruth word into English. We plan to follow certain rules for the sake of consistency. In Savskruth, sounds are grouped by the part or muscle of the mouth or face exercised to pronounce the sound. For example, Pa or Pha is considered as sound exercising lips (Oshthya) and Tha is considered as a sound exercising teeth (Dhantya). Certain conventions used to convert Savskruth sounds in English don’t give proper pronunciation because the group of a sound is changed while conversion. Generally, ta is replaced by ta (T). However, ta and T are from different groups. ta, is Dantya (pronounced by touching the tongue to teeth) and T (ta) is Moordhnya (pronounced by rolling the tongue). Therefore, we have replaced it with another sound from the same group, for example, qa or tha. The Southern part of India follows this methodology for years but many aren’t sure why this convention was followed and they feel it is incorrect. Hence, I wanted to explain it here before following this convention.

Another rule is about Anuswar or dot on any letter. Take an example of the word Sanskrit. Word Sanskrit is grammatically incorrect. The rule says that use an Anunasik (generally the last sound) from the same group (Varga) on which the Anuswar is to be given. For example, in the case of Savskruth, Anuswar is on Sa. Sound Sa is from Ya Varga. Anunasik for Ya Varga is Va. Therefore, the word is Savskruth and not Sanskrit. I have explained these concepts in depth in my book ‘Untold Vedic Culture’.

Unlike any other language, Savskruth follows the maximum number of rules. To maintain the grace of any language we shall follow its rules to the maximum extent. I attempt to maintain the purity of the language and I have followed the above conventions in this book. I highly encourage you to learn the basics of Savskruth as you have an interest in Vedic sciences.

Terms Used in the Book and their Meaning

I have used many terms specific to Vedic astrology in this book. It is intentional. When we learn any subject, we learn terms related to the topic and I would like you all to learn terms specific to Vedic astrology. To ease the challenge, the below table gives a list of the terms and their equivalent. I encourage you to go through the table and keep it handy as you start reading the next chapter.

    1. the Purpose

We published the first edition of the Vedic Astrology Practitioner Manual in March 2017 and since then 6 editions have already been published. Many readers of the Vedic Astrology Practitioner Manual have reached out to me and enquired about my notes on advanced topics in Vedhic Astrology. Even though I promised them to publish my notes on advanced topics, I couldn’t get them in the format of a book till now due to my schedule and priorities. Finally, I could save some bandwidth for this work and I am pleased to share it with all the readers.

There are so many books on the basics of Vedhic Astrology but the books on advanced topics are lesser in number. However, most professional astrologers suggest that the accuracy of the prediction can not be achieved without the study of advanced topics. This is one of the reasons why the students of astrology turn to classical texts. The classical texts are large in the count and most of them follow a similar structure. However, every classical text has some unique content and therefore the students end up referring to most classical texts. This process is long and time-consuming. I have spent sleepless nights studying many classical texts taking my notes and confirming those principles by applying them regularly.

While making my notes I referred to many classical texts including Bruhath Parashara Hora Shasththra, Hora Saar, Hora Shathak, Jathak Chandhrika, Jathak Thathwam, Chandhra Kalanadi, Sarvartha Chinthamani, Uttharkalamrutha, Shambhu Hora, Shripathi Paddhathi, Faladheepika, Jathaka Parijatha, and Saravali. I have also validated the translation and updated it according to my learnings. Finally, I have applied most of this knowledge.

In this book, I have covered Nonluminous planets or Upagrahas, Vivshotthari Dhasha, Vargas or Divisional Horoscopes, Graha and Bala or Planetary Strength, Ashtakvarga, Gochara or Transits, and Nashtajathaka or lost horoscopes. It is rare to find a book with a compilation of all these topics. Many authors have written separate books on each topic. However, most of the classical texts deal with all these topics. This just means that study of these topics is mandatory for prediction.

Before going through these topics, I urge you to study the fundamentals. The strong base will help you to apply these principles confidently and comfortably.

My effort is to author a book that can be referred to by astrologers regularly and in case of doubt. I hope the book serves its purpose and supports every reader.

    The Purpose

    2. Who shall read this book?

This book is for everyone who knows the basics of Vedhic astrology and is curious about the advanced topics in Vedhic astrology. This book covers many advanced topics. I have also demonstrated the mathematical aspects with a sample horoscope for the sake of understanding.

You need some preliminary knowledge before starting this book. You shall be comfortable with the fundamental principles of Vedhic astrology. You shall also understand the basics of Bhavachalith Kundali. If you are a novice learner, you are encouraged to go through the Vedic Astrology Practitioner Manual and Untold Vedic Astrology before starting this book.

You shall be at least comfortable with reading the Bhavachalith horoscope, the group of houses, owners of houses, positions of planets, degrees of planets, planetary aspects, Bhavarambha, and Bhavamadhya of each house.

You may certainly go through this book as a curious student of Vedhic astrology and apply the principles to your horoscope. When you apply this to your horoscope it will certainly help you to understand more details about your future. It will also help you to understand the application of advanced principles better.

    3. Sample Horoscope

I have demonstrated many calculations in this book for the sake of understanding. We are going to refer to this horoscope rather than different horoscopes for each example. I am giving the birth details and all other required details here and we will refer to these details in the coming pages.

    4. Upagrahas or

    Non-LumInous Planets

    ––––––––

The non-luminous planets are mathematical points calculated based on certain principles. They can be subdivided into 2 parts, the Upagrahas and Kalavelas. The 5 Upagrahas are based on the longitude of the Sun. The 5 Kalavelas are dependent on the time of the day.

The 5 Kalavelas are Gulika, Kaal, Mruthyu, Yamaghantaka and Ardhaprahara. The 5 Upagragas are Dhooma, Vyathipatha, Parivesha, Indhrachapa, and Upakethu. Very less information is available on Kalavelas except for Gulika.

The effect of Kalavelas and Upagrahas is seen when they are associated with a planet or Bhavamadhya. The association with Gulika indicates evil effects. The association with Yamaghantaka indicates beneficial results. The other Kalavelas have just half the evil effects of Gulika. We are going to learn the calculation of Gulika. I have mostly referred to Bruhath Parashar Hora Shasthra and Faladheepika for this chapter.

    Calculation of Gulika

Divide the day into 8 parts.

The first part of the day is from the lord of the day.

The beginning of the 8th part is Gulika.

If the birth is at night divide the duration of the night by 8.

The first part of the night is from the lord of the 5th day.

The beginning of the 8th part is Gulika.

Calculation of Gulika in Sample Horoscope

The sunset is 18:45:35 and the Sunrise is 06:22:42 therefore the duration of the night will be

    24+06:22:42 - 18:45:35 = 11H 37M 7S

When we divide 11H 37M 7S by 8 we get

    11H 37M 7S ÷ 8 = 697M7S ÷ 8 = 1H 27M 8S
