Introduction

In this book you will find a lot of coasters. They come in different color, shape and size and technique. I chose to knit it, because I figured I will be able to get a desired shape. Using cotton balls and needles, I decided to form something new; to bring into existence an ideas that has not too much in common. They add challenge, but it looks fabulous after is done. So, I was able to make a bold look, or artistic, depends what idea was within me at this moment or I saw it in the past. I know that our mind is unlimited. It just needs training. I tried to merge two objects into one, like a two trees to make for one bigger coaster or just locking in knitted pieces together. Adding knitted details on..

The instructions are easy and suitable for beginners or advanced knitters. It is just fun to make all kind of shapes. You should already know the basic stitches and how to read patterns. You need to know how to cast on, knit, purl, decrease, increase, and bind off.

Texture

Single

Generally involved only basic sitting techniques: purl and knit. To make it: work from right to left, turn the garment and continue working from right to left. Remember: the thin ones edge of a single knit fabric tend to curl. I fixed it, slipping the first stich of the row and purling the last one.

Double

Knitting in a round always work on the right side. Always remember where the row begins. Add marker, it helps you with that. Do not twist stitches.

Embelishments

It is a small elements, which make garment more attractive, drawing interest or attention. No doubt they are able to please the eye. Decorative details can be added like flowers, pom – pom, bobbles, fringes, tassels and etc. I used string with the bobble at the end. Directions how to make it, given.

Knitting Needles

Straight needles

Needles are available in a wide range of sizes. Needles have a point on one end and stopper at the other. It is ideal to knit for beginners. It’s good to knit for a small project as well. It is easy to hold when you are working in rows, and making two dimensional garments. This kind of knitting method reduce hand fatigue.

Circular needles

Circular needles are made up of two standard needles, joined by flexible cord. Circular needles are meant to do what regular straight needles cannot make it, seamless, flawless garment. Circular needles are perfect for large projects.

Double pointed needles

They are good for small garments when circular needles are too large, also knit when tight places is or knit in a round. It gives seamless look. Both ends are pointed, you can use knitting either one. Usually they come in set of four or five needles.

Love to design coasters, tried to get a contemporary look, not just traditional round or square, rhythmically designed. The repetitious shape is just duplicative for my understanding, and if it is used profoundly, boring as well. Knitting coasters, I focused how to shape it, and elements on it as well, trying to make them distinguish from traditional. The form inspired to search for details. The shape for me is important, it matches an emotion when you knitting, and geometrically knitted object. Some of my coasters have kind of abstract look, but in real, they are shaped, that resembles the imitated object: apple, flower and etc. It is a subjective view to the object, but is always could be interpreted variously.

Creating some of the coaters, I followed a sample, which was inspired mostly by nature, like cherries, apples and etc. Sometimes samples were minimized by me, and they became just cute element on a coaster. Elements
