    Introduction

Therefore let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and find grace whenever we need help – Hebrews 4:16.

What beautiful words that should fill us with faith and joy. What a wonderful God we serve, who makes a way for us to receive this mercy and grace.

The letter of Hebrews is overflowing with encouragement to persevere in faith, and enter into God’s rest. It teaches so much about Jesus, and is so personal in nature that you will find yourself wanting, more than anything, to grow in the knowledge of God.

God’s word is living and active. You can’t read it, and pray through it, without the mighty work of our holy God working in and through you. At times you will worship and praise. Other times your jaw will drop at understanding something that pierces deep into your heart (often from familiar passages you have read before). And other times you will find yourself on your knees repenting and asking forgiveness.

As you begin to read, imagine you are the recipient of the letter. What is God’s word saying to you? Ask God to open your spiritual eyes, and to give you wisdom and knowledge.

After each scripture reading is a prayer. Begin with the written prayer, then bring before God whatever comes to mind next. Whether praise and thanksgiving, worship, repentance or petition. Bring it all before Him, because you are His child and He loves you.

As you pray each day, you will begin to notice a deepening of your relationship with Him.

There is no greater experience in life than looking to God, being changed by Him, and hearing Him speak to you through His word.

May God bless you as you seek Him.

    God has spoken...

    Hebrews 1:1-6

After God spoke long ago in various portions and in various ways to our ancestors through the prophets, in these last days he has spoken to us in a son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he created the world.

The Son is the radiance of his glory and the representation of his essence, and he sustains all things by his powerful word, and so when he had accomplished cleansing for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

Thus he became so far better than the angels as he has inherited a name superior to theirs.

The Son Is Superior to Angels

For to which of the angels did God ever say, You are my son! Today I have fathered you? And in another place he says, I will be his father and he will be my son.

But when he again brings his firstborn into the world, he says, Let all the angels of God worship him!

O Lord you have searched me and you know me, you know when I sit and when I rise, you perceive my thoughts from afar, you discern my going out and my lying down, and you are familiar with all my ways.

You, O Lord, are the radiance of God’s glory, and you sustain all things through the power of your word. You have provided purification for sin and sat down at the right hand of the Father Almighty. You reign!

You who are so great in wonder, made yourself known to us by the power of your Spirit. May your name be glorified and lifted up in all the earth.

May your majesty and holiness be manifest among your people, to the praise of your glory. Amen.

Your throne, O God, is forever

    Hebrews 1:7-14

And he says of the angels, He makes his angels spirits and his ministers a flame of fire, but of the Son he says,

Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, and a righteous sceptre is the sceptre of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness. So God, your God, has anointed you over your companions with the oil of rejoicing.

    And,

"You founded the earth in the beginning, Lord, and the heavens are the works of your hands. They will perish, but you continue. And they will all grow old like a garment, and like
