Magical Powers!

The sun was rising just as I yawned and woke up. I stretched my arms and yawned again. Suddenly, I saw glitter sparkles following my hands as I stretched. I was confused of what was going on. I looked at my hands and they were both glittering with sparkles around them. This ordinary morning now seemed like an excited morning. It appears I just got magical powers! I knew today was going to be the best day of my life, but I didn’t know what my powers were going to be though, but I knew I was going to get two powers because of the different colors of glitter and sparkles on each hand.

I rushed out of bed and quickly changed into a cloud t-shirt and orange skirt. I tied my hair up into a ponytail and brushed my teeth. My brother woke up because of my excitement.

Why are you awake so early?, he asked.

I just got magic powers!, I told him. See the glitter sparkles around my hand?

What glitter sparkles? I can’t see them, he said back.

You can’t see them? I can see them, see? The glitter sparkles are on my hand, I said.

Fine, keep playing your stupid magic power game. You’re probably just trying to trick me, he told me. I’m going back to sleep.

If you don’t believe me, I don’t care!, I told him. I sighed and went downstairs to eat breakfast.

Mom and dad were not awake yet, so I made my own breakfast to eat. My hand was glittering and sparkling as I ate. It felt strange that only I could see them. Maybe mom, dad and my baby sister could see the glitter sparkles, and only my brother couldn’t. I looked out my backyard. I loved nature more than anything. Suddenly, I saw a cute rabbit hop into our yard.

It was also glowing with glitter and sparkles around its body. I felt confused once again. So not only I have glitter and sparkles, but nature also had glitter and sparkles? Once I finished my breakfast, the rabbit looked like she wanted me to come. I opened the yard door and stepped outside.

The rabbit ran up to me and touched my hand. Hello, she told me.

What!? Now I can understand animals? H-h-hi, I stammered. How can I understand you? I never understood animals before.

That’s because we chose you to help us. We gave you two powers that you always wanted to have., she said again.

What are my powers? Do you know them? Why did you choose me? Am I special or anything? Do you need help with something? I asked.

The rabbit laughed. One question at a time. First thing, your powers are to be able to talk to animals and flying. And yes, we do need help. We chose you because you were the only person that believed in magic. The evil hunters are angry at us for an unknown reason. Animals are all in danger. Me and my friends all thought we needed to find a human that believed in magic to help us fight the hunters and calm them down.

The animals are all hurt and scared, and we need you to help protect them for us while we try talking to the hunters, she said to me.

Okay, so I already know how to talk to animals but how do I fly? I asked. What’s your name?

My name is Lucy, she said. This is how to fly; First, imagine that you are flying. Then, you use your hands to draw a picture of wings behind your back, Lucy told me. Now you have wings and flap them! I’ll follow you.

Chapter 2

Animal World!

I closed my eyes and imagined that I was flying. Then, I used my hand to draw a picture of my wings. I slowly flapped them and as I looked back, my wings were rainbow colored! They left a trail of silver sparkles behind me. I felt so excited to finally be in the air. Lucy hopped up and spread her rabbit legs into the air. She also left beautiful glitter and sparkles behind her as she flew up the sky with me. I felt so happy that my dreams had come true. I always wanted to fly but then I just thought of how my brother couldn’t see the glitter and sparkles around my hand.

Lucy, how come my brother couldn’t see the glitter and sparkles around my hand this morning?, I called out.

It’s because that we don’t want everybody to know about magic even if they believe in magic, Lucy replied. If too many people know about it then everyone will want magic powers and this forest could be in danger.

Oh, I said softly. I really wanted to share that I had magic powers.

What’s your name?, Lucy asked.

My name is Marigold, I told her.

Marigold, I heard of the name Marigold before, she said.

Really? I asked. You heard of the name Marigold before?
